RAT LEAVES SINKING SHIP ?
« on: October 05, 2009, 08:48:14 PM »

Accrington Stanley Vice-Chairman Peter Marsden resigned from the board yesterday. His parting words were :

"I urge the people of Accrington to get behind the S.O.S. campaign if they want to save our fine old club......."

Quite aside from the view of that shower of sh*t  that has commonly been expressed on this site of late....."FINE OLD CLUB ?"

They were only founded in bloody 1968 - and that some seven years after the previous incarnation went down the tube without completing their fixtures !

Incidentally, for those of you who think they were founder members of the Football League.....NO ! That was Accrington (not Stanley), yet another washout who crashed after just two seasons. Must be something in the air in those parts that breeds a strange mix of misplaced ambition and abject failure.

I posted on the Conference Forum website something along the lines of "can Accrington be the first town to have 3 failed football league clubs" immediately on their clinching the Conference title.  The main thrust of the replies was "Sound business model, financial stability, etc."  I would love it (LOVE IT) if they were to satisfy my prophecy!

it's time to be realistic.

Accrington is a p1ss poor town, with no more than a bag of onions and a tube of toothpate to its name.  However it has managed to get itself a third go at sustaining a football  league club. It simply is not feasible without somebody bankrolling the club  heavily each and every season.  They can arrange friendlies with Burnley.  They can even fool some fans of other local clubs to stump up the cash to watch them on Friday nights, but these are short term things.  Long term the town does not have the cash to support a football league club.  This is the lesson from history.

They must love flogging dead horses up there.
