Can any Alty fans point me in the direction of somewhere pleasant but inexpensive to eat in the Altrincham/Manchester area please? I'll be staying in the Salford Quays area on a Friday night but don't really want to hang around there - can you recommend some good value family eating places nearby please? (Not Burgerking or kebabs please!!)

Go to Sale to the Jitrada (Thai food).
Go to Manchester China Town
Got to Rusholme - Curry Mile

I'm London based now so out of touch. This site might be useful though.

Perhaps if you state what sort of food you were after as you say for a family there may be someone better placed to advise. Also how near to Alty, ie pre match or Friday/ Saturday night etc?
Wherever you end up enjoy your stay, we're a friendly lot in the main.

There is an armenian restaurant in the centre of manchester, top rum baba's

Thanks everyone. I'll have my 12 year old daughter with me so don't really want to be round the city centre on a Friday night. I was thinking more village (!) pub with good value grub rather than posh or a p!ss up, and easy to get back to Salford Quays where we are staying. Keep 'em coming!

Salford Quays is a regenerated part of the inner city. No villagey pubs nearby. If you are driving out beyond Alty, there are a few country style pubs around the Dunham/Mobberley/ Ashley/ Hale Barns areas. Try Beer in the Evening website.
These involve a good 10 mile plus drive though. Chinatown in Mcr City Centre is pretty safe as an area if authentic Chinese is an option. Easy cab or tram ride from Salford Quays.

The Quayhouse near the Lowry Shopping Outlet does good food, a Beefeater place I think it is.

Frankie and Benny's ;)
Seriously ! I quite like it there... one at Salford

The Swan with 2 Nicks between Alty & Lymm is an old fave of mine

Genghis Khan's in Manchester City Centre is different but might be a nice experience for your daughter and yourself.
It's a Mongolian Barbecue - eat as much as you like having chosen it yourself.
Alternatively there are some decent Indian & Chinese both in Altrincham and Manchester Centre
