This is truly devastating news for those of us who had set our hearts on spending all of New Year's Eve in Workington.

The fact that the football authorities were even at the "thinking about it" stage with regard to scheduling fixtures for sat 31st dec is ridiculous...

If Sepp Blatter and Jack Warner were running the league and the money had been right we could have been playing Christmas day lunchtime (Alllegedly)  ;) :D

Ah, well, bang goes one fixture for those of us reliant on public transport - New Year's Day will be a no go area, whatever day of the week it may fall on.

New Year's Day is not a problem as there seems to be trains running on this day(subject to engineering works or strikes). But Boxing Day is tends to be the day of no public transport

Not all of us live within reach of trains - particularly those of us whose railway service ended last autumn, to be replaced by trams sometime in 2012 - they hope ...  Boxing Day last year to my recollection the trams ran, which is again fine if you are near them. My own feeling is that they should have gone for Monday Jan 2nd, which will of course be a Bank Holiday. Still, decision made - apparently - so I'll shut up and live with it.

There has to be a chance we'll be away to one of the Tameside Trio - that would help you wouldn't it ?
