Thompson
Bembo-Leta Harrison Hannigan Short
Johnson Moult Richman Hancock
Poole Hulme
Not convinced with Hancock out wide, but he's too good to leave out.
Warrington 1-2 Alty Hulme, Poole.
Hope we get 300+ down there.
-
Warrington 5/4
Draw 11/5
Alty 13/8
A lot will go, new ground for many people

Agreed (I think we have a clear starting XI now, which is nice after all these years)
I'd swap the wingers over. Both enjoy cutting inside
-
Big performance needed from Moult and Richman.
-
Agree with the line up but we're not going to change formation.
-
Is Hannigan fit ?
-
Agree with the line up but we're not going to change formation.
Yep, we will probably play 4-2-3-1 with Poole behind Hulme and JJ/Hancock on the wings.

We've been very obviously lining up in a 4-2-3-1 all season and although I hate it at Prem / international level, it does work to our strengths well.

Good formation for us, with Moult the sitter and Richman closing down and sometimes bobbing on.
-
I’d start with Dens at right back ....I though he was superb last week when he came on and made a significant difference. His positional sense is much better than Bembo-Leta and his cool head could be useful in what may be a tense match.
-
Will leave the team to PP; he gets it right more often than not. Looking forward to being at the game, hoping for 300/400 Alty fans.
-
I expect the fans will be out in force on Saturday. Looking forward to it.
If we hit the ground running and can get an early goal then I think we can win it with a bit to spare.
We need to snuff out there threat from the off.
3-1 Alty with 274 travelling fans...

Totally agree. Dens is a much better defender, but I feel he will go Bembo-Leta. God hope he doesn't play him centre back, if Hannigan isn't fit we must go Jones.
-
Does anyone know if there is any cover at Warrington.
The forecast for Saturday is awful.
3-1 to the Alty 350 away fans.
-
Appears to be very limited cover like at Trafford

Warrington have been advertising our game outside their ground since last Saturday. I spotted it on the way to our game from near there.
-
Surprised no one has discussed the possibility of this game being called off. Some serious liquid flying down today, tonight and tomorrow.
-
If they can’t stage a football after a few hours of winter weather it’s a poor so. Maybe the game should be moved here this afternoon if there’s any doubt

Be fair Pete...it's not so long ago we'd have been postponing Conference National fixtures after heavy rain. Remember the puddle that used to gather in the corner by the club shop ? This is League Glue, not League Two.

It’s October

This is a possibility,Met office have issued a warning for Heavy rain and strong winds.
Hope it's not called off,but if it is let's hope it is done at a time, before the red army arrive
In Warrington.
-
It’s October
It's raining
-
Looking at the forecast I would say unless they have a really bad pitch it should be ok ?
-
It’s October
It's raining
No it isn’t
-
I believe that the Warrington pitch drains exceptionally well & that they hardly ever have games called off due to a waterloggged pitch.
-
Current BBC forecast is for heavy rain from 3pm Sat onwards ... it might be a good test for us as a 'top of the ground' side to plough through mud?
By the way, I seem to remember a game against Chorley on the equivalent Saturday in 1998 which was played in atrocious conditions, with standing water on the pitch by the end, which effectively made a mud-heap of Moss Lane for months - so it's happened before ... and we did win the league that season!
-
There's been an occasion on which we've had a home game postponed in August owing to heavy rainfall....
24 August 2004
TONIGHT'S GAME OFF
After a pitch inspection at 3.30pm. today's match against Barrow has been postponed.
After a fairly dry morning, torrential downpours during the lunchtime and early afternoon put paid to the game. Mark Maddox would have completed his four-match ban tonight but must now stay inactive till Bank Holiday Monday at the earliest.
-
Drive past the ground twice a day to and from work, sad we're playing in a league game, thought it would never happen, hopefully be the last.
If we start well we will do them, hope the pitch / conditions don't do us over. Hoping Hannigan fit, onwards and upwards.
See you tomorrow. #coyr
-
I think it will be a draw.
-
I think it will be a draw.
Agree, our away records poor - would take a point now
-
We will win
-
Tough conditions and much better second half but we need to try and match the tempo of home games.
Jones, Harrison and Short played well.
Richman man of the match.
I still think Densmore is better at all football attributes apart from height than Bembo-Leta and that includes going forward. Again he didn't do much wrong but he just isn't influential in anyway. His final ball is rubbish.
Poole and Hancock were poor. I would have brought Peers on and put JJ on the left. He seems to be more dangerous on the left or at least swapped him and Hancock at some point.
Hulme worked hard.
Aways end on a positive and that is a point away to one of the top teams.
-
Too add, can we practice whipping, not floating balls into the 6 yard box. The amount of poor crosses was shocking.
-
Do we know the attendance?
-
Appalling conditions for both players and supporters. We weren't really in it during the first half but improved in the second and tried to pass it around in difficult circumstances. I thought Poole should have done better with his effort second half and he looked a bit short of confidence. The supply to JJ was limited but he saw more of the ball in the 2nd half - I too prefer him on the left. Apart from one effort near the end of the first half Warrington didn't really threaten. Happy with a point

Totally agree with this.
Was amazed Densmore didn't replace Short who limped through the last 30 minutes.
None of their 11 would get in our starting 11 so in that respect it's 2 points dropped.
-
I thought we were clearly the better team, particularly in the second half. However, given the conditions and our lack of shots on goal, I'd say a draw was a fair result. Please PP, put Dens in at right back.
Looks like it'll be decided by who can win the most away games, us or Shaw.
-
Do we know the attendance?
952, according to this:

Will it be another 21 years before Mrs. B. attends her next Alty game ;D

i reckon the crowd was 50 50 ... so around 450 + impressive
-
Things ive come to realise: -
No Miller or Miller in squad despite no mention of injury
Johnson and Hancock never swapping wings
Walsh and Harrop coming on in favour of Peers
Of the 3 games I can think of (Workington, Stalybridge and Warrington) played in horrendous conditions we've amassed 2 points.
-
Bit of a mystery the Miller one

We are definitely a footballing team but we need other options when the weather is poor. I just felt at times yesterday it was stagnant and Hancock and Johnson should have been told to swap wings. We should have considered Peers up top to replace a tiring Hulme.
Dens for Bembo-Leta to get us bobbing on. I also thought we ran out of ideas at Stalybridge.
At home with a decent pitch/weather we will beat anyone in this league. As we approach the winter section of the season we need plan b's and that would mean releases and signings.
-
Couldn't agree more. Suspect some of the players you'd get rid of aren't on contract
-
I couldn't make it to the game, but I assume JJ played on the right, and not the left?
He's so much more effective on the left - with him being so much stronger on his right foot, he has a tendency to over-blaze his crosses from the right byline - whereas when he gets to the left one, he knows his limitations so he tends to be a bit cuter with his decision-making. And of course, obviously he can cut inside.
Do we need a Kyle Perry-type target man as a Plan B for the winter months? I'm not sure yet. It would be nice to use the loan market well, but we'll see.
-
The warrington fans were a friendly bunch had a bit of banter with them second half
-
I think you take the point, especially with Shaw Lane, Farsley & Stourbridge all failing to win as well. To note now we have 2 home league games before that huge trip to Shaw Lane, SL don’t play a league game in the same period so we could potentially be 6 points ahead of them going into that one. Big fortnight ahead.
-
The weather spoilt what had the makings of a decent fixture..
I thought Dens would maybe come on at rb for the last 30 mins..
Sorry to have to mention the poor standard of referee yet again, but the bloke was Sh1t
Excellent turnout by The Alty faithful..
-
Yes, definitely lacking a 'Plan-B' yesterday .........always going to be difficult to be the slick-neat-passing side that we are on a wet pitch with a howling gale.
I was surprised the changes made did not appear to be tactical, but just appeared to be replacements for tired legs, despite the tactics employed creating very little in terms of banging goals in.
Funny thing was that we completely dominated the game and last season the opposition would have scored in the 93rd minute, so maybe a point away at Warrington is a reasonable return. As said by others though, if we don't find a way of picking up more points on the road in difficult conditions, we won't be at the top of this table for much longer and certainly won't be there at the end of the season - champions win on the road more often than they draw.
Think I stood in the worlds most useless stand yesterday. Slightly restricted view and still got completely soaked.
-
And one other thing...........to the bell-ends with the smoke bombs.............won't be long before a ref reports it and the club is fined.....thus limiting our ability to bring in reinforcements
-

The referee yesterday, Dylan Baines, is Leighton Baines's brother.

Bob Dylan would have been a better ref than Leighton's brother ;)

We sat in the small stand out of the rain and wind, that was more than half full of Alty supporters. I reckon we had at least half the crowd yesterday but were in 3 main pockets because of the awful conditions.
I felt as most, we lacked a plan B and PP was happy with a point, whereas with a bit more tactical changes we could have pushed more for 3 points. I was bemused not to see Dens on at one point in either fb positions, also why not Peers? No Miller either on the bench.
I thought the substitution of Walsh was bizarre as not sure of his pedigree and where he came from. surely more established players should have been coming on?

Not sure why he is now up North but he came through Bournemouth's youth system and has played at several Southern Non League sides such as Salisbury,Welling and Aylesbury.

Last club also appears to have been New Orleans Jesters of the National Premier Soccer League (USA 4th tier). Hulme also played for them at one point

Salisbury said in January that he had to leave the club as he was moving north because of his work. However, he was playing for New Orleans Jesters (strangely enough, one of Jordan Hulme's previous clubs) in the summer!
