In 1978, after we beat runcorn at Canal Street to get to Wembley. we went on this ridiculously good run of form even though we were playing 3 games a week and the likes of Tommy Cavanagh, Graham Heys, Tobin and Garrity were getting a run out and we were trying new formations and tactics. For example I remember a midweek game at Buxton where Tony Sanders clearly wanted to practice defending corners and breaking quickly. We must have conceded 30 corners in the second half and scored two goals whilst under this cosh on the break - presciently similiar to Johnson and Rogers in the first ten minutes against Leatherhead. We won 2-0.
So will it be that Gravesend or the 82 final version of Alty who were mid table and clearly could not be bothered...
