Forgive me if this has already been mentioned but why has Gary Talbot been resigned for next season?

Cos Peter Band won't and Karl Munroe might not. There, that was pretty simple wasn't it?

How old is Talbs compared, for instance, to Alan Stubbs of Everton?

Because the manager, who knows him personally and sees him in training, wanted him to.

Talbs still has something to offer; his age and pace is against him, but he is a big target man at corners and free kicks.
There are few who can out jump him and the BSN opposition attacking styles will suit his strengths.
Maybe he can also lay off plenty of chances for Colin next season.

Tabs has been a great servant to the club for many season, but he is slow, and distribution is not great. Pace at the back is something that we have lacked over the past few years. Surely it is about time this disadvantage is eradicated?

Im sure someone will hark on about finances, not having the money etc. Defence is a priority. 3 (Tommo, bowler, band) (hopefully 4 A, Scott) players have left, money should be available to attract a couple decent defenders, otherwise we will struggle defensively next season.

Cant really comment myself but mick appears to think talbs is a cenrtre forward/target man
limited games watched but isnt he a centre half.

if we talk about resigning players what about george whatsit centre half went to bamber bridge or somewhere in preston.looked a good prospect to me.

I agree with other posts that he is there for cover, I do not see other players cueing up to join the club?

Hopefully GH will find a couple of half decent players rather soon.

Players such as Steve Davis, Jimmy White......or even Ray Reardon to partner Talbot in central defence?

I did not say that Talbs was a centre forward, I said he was a big target man i.e. somebody who is tall and can jump and would go up for corners !

If he had put away some of the chances he had at Tamworth, then maybe people would better understand what I mean

Mick,

To be fair to Talbs, I really don't recall him having a chance to score at Tamworth.
As we didn't possess any winger that afternoon, there were no decent crosses for him to feed on.

That situation wasn't just limited to that afternoon, it was a problem that persisted all season.
