Christ. I had it a couple of years back - very unpleasant. He'll do well to get back fully fit by the following weekend.

At least the lads don't train together all the time, half the squad might have got it then.

I'd say we'll be struggling to get a result at Grays now...

I don't think we're far off!!

At least according to bbc *Inaccuracy disclaimer* Grays will be without Lee McEvily, Adriano Rigoglioso and Jamie Slabber.

0-0 might be the value bet here!

That'd be MEASLES Ecky. With mumps, it's swollen glands. And rather worryingly, it can cause impotence in adult males. Wouldn't wish it on anybody. Oh, sorry, maybe Colin Peake and Steve Evans.

Yep, golf balls behind the ears. I think it can make you infertile, I'm not sure about causing impotence though.

I too would chuckle were Peake or Evans to go down with mumps. That or malaria.

If it is mumps and he has to desist from the old horizontal bop for a bit, would any of you feel inclined to deputise for him (I seem to remember his missus figuring quite highly in some poll for gorgeous women in the other Non League paper that wasnt the NLP if you get my drift?

I never knew you could get mumps by phone. Is it worth complaining to OFTEL ?

Mumps, like chickenpox too are seriously not funny things to get as adults. Potential complications all round. Best wishes to the lad, but as said , Christ we are being unlucky this season player wise.

Please no bookings/sending offs/ injuries tomorrow.

When you have a small sqaud every injury is felt hard. Greg is one of our best players so far this year.

Might be worth taking a look at a couple from the youth team - they are doing well so why not?

I suspect they'd be horribly out of their depth. Still, if you bring on a youth team full back for a few minutes at the end I'm sure he could do a job. Might be worth it if we can't fill the bench. I'd be worried about starting a youth player though.

Amusingly, and I'm going off on a slight tangent here, when it was announced all BSP clubs were getting a payout, a Luton fan on thefootball forum claimed "all clubs should be forced to put the money into their centres of excellence". I explained that semi-pro sides seldom run centres of excellence, to which he stated "if your clubs lacks the foresight to invest in youth, that's their problem". The ignorance boggles the mind, doesn't it?

This could also apply to the post about standing-in with Greg's missus.

I note from the Club site that Greg has had a slight relapse, so it looks like he's out again on Saturday. Let's hope he's fit for Gateshead's visit on Tuesday, though in fairness we handled Grays and Tamworth pretty well in his absence.

On a more positive note, it appears that Michael Welch may be able to train next week, and could be back during October.
