Title: Cheltenham?
Post by: cheshire cat on December 16, 2015, 11:50:11 PM
There's no thread yet. Is everyone trying to pretend it's not happening? I can't decide which is more scary. The fact they've got twice as many points or the massive goal difference.

It's going to be tough!

Can't make Cheltenham but hoping to be at Leamington.

Not sure what we can expect on Saturday, assume we'll be unchanged. I'll be glad to see o'keefe back for next Tuesday. I'd probably play three centre backs on Saturday and play as deep as we can, then change it on the hour if we can keep it tight

.........................Deasy
........Heathcote...Havern....Leather
Sinnott..............Moult............Griffin
.........Lawrie....Richman...Crowther
........................Reeves

It's 5 at the back if the full backs are deep not 3 this probably isn't a bad idea but our record playing 3 centre halls is as bad as it is playing 4 4 2

For me this is a game for Rankin and not Reeves if we are playing one up top. Rankin can hold the ball up better due to his size.

Looking forward to it, enjoyed my trip to Gloucester City there a couple of years ago. Pleasant town/ground.

Leamington, Cheltenham, Leamington.
Possibly the most middle class sequence of fixtures ever.

we normally play 1 up top when we don't have injuries,so therefore you would choose rankine I would go for reeves or do you mean against a particular type of opponent you would go for ranks

9/1 to win, 4/1 the draw

Sad thing is I think reeves and Rankine work quite well together at times, it's the space and chaos behind them that rules them out as a pairing by and large.

Against an opponent, who in all honesty is likely to pressure us for most of the game. So Cheltenham, Forest Green, but where we have a chance of creating more goals i would play Reeves. Sometimes Reeves can get on the end of everything against some defences, but others where they have big quick defenders then perhaps Rankin is a better option.

We played very well indeed and deserved something out of this game. I can't fathom out if they caught us on a our good day or we caught them on a bad day. They came out in the first 12 minutes as if it was stoppage time but after that we were the better team in the first half especially. Pity we didn't put away our first half chances. Hopefully Cheltenham wont drop any points in their next 4 games as they are against teams below us. Yesterday's match cannot be compared to the FGR match as pitch conditions and poor officiating didn't totally ruin the game yesterday,

I think there were occasions where the ref was very one-eyed though.  Downes, in particular, was all over Rankine going up for headers.  He was exactly the same in the reverse fixture earlier this year.

But as you said, if we had taken our chances, we might have had something out of the game.

You are correct but I didn't want to put it that way in fear of being accused of 'were always the victims' whinge. It was the same at Colchester, their defender continually held Rankine's shirt. We have to accept that officials in this league are poor and inconsistent. Yesterday was clear that we got penalised and booked for infringements while the home side got away with the same, but it didn't directly affect the match result.

Absolutely correct.  The one potentially game changing decision he had to make was correct, i.e. the penalty.  I'm unsure about the offside decision for our equaliser as I couldn't see the whole picture, but Reevesy was pretty adamant.
