Title: Away followings for the coming season
Post by: NauticaPete on April 30, 2009, 09:46:45 AM
Looking at this page from AFC Wimbledon, at almost all away games for them there were well over a thousand attending, when the opposition teams' average att. was around 400. So I reckon we could expect upwards from 700 from them.

What about Luton, Chester and play-off candidates?
Is it worth a slight gamble on increased attendances to get 1 or 2 more expensive players  and/or secure the likes of Densmore on a decent contract?

To be honest I don't think the increased away attendances would be sufficient to warrant "gambling" with the playing budget. The way forward is to try and improve the squad on a "one in, one out" basis.

I think it's imperative that we have a good cup run next season as the financial benefits would be immense. Same goes for the FA Trophy.

To be honest AFCW do not travel as well even North of the Thames, and longer distance games are untested. A lot will depend on how well they are doing. We can't gamble on gates against bigger sides, even York at home this season was a mediocre turnout and best say nothing about the Torquay game.

Wimbledon only attracted about 7000 in the premier league. I expect them to go straight through this division and back into the league, but they will only bring about 300.

They do need to strengthen up at the back and get a couple of players who can move the ball about quickly and accutately. John Main is a fine striker though. The step up from BSN/BSS is not to be underestimated. I don't think they'll go straight through this league, they may get up in 2/3 years though. Plus the ground needs work to increase capacity, only 4700ish now, with a small away end.
