Best way, in my opinion and been several times is M6 J12 and then A5 into Tamworth.
Slight drawback is watching the cars on the M6 toll road fly past when you are at the lights on the A5. However, relax and think what you will spend the £3 toll on

If any serious queues on M6 get off at 15 and head for Stone, or 14 and head Stafford - they all go to Cannock or Tamworth in the end

Chris
If you read this - call into Barringtons 9-10 on Friday and book your ride

Altrincham FC First Team / Northwich Vics statement
« on: April 11, 2007, 05:06:11 PM »
Official club statement from Vic's (actually from Mike Connett's daughter) which is reproduced on the AFC site seems to be a major talking point on the Supporters Trust site. Worth a look if anyone is interested.
Some good points from the Vic's supporters

If we amass enough points to stay up, then I hope Halifax can stay up too and maybe one of the Southern clubs go down in their place.........Crawley / FGR

Helps us on our travels + gate receipts at home games - recall that 2 seasons running Crawley and FGR supporters really could have come on a 12 seater minibus

For what it is worth, I think you'll find that I asked the original question and then you asked it again in a reply to the same post (29 March) ..............not that I am a copyright lawyer or anything like that !

Anyway.............thanks Cult for doing the research

An amazing lack of faith the club chairmen must have

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Peter Thomson leaves the club
« on: March 30, 2007, 05:54:47 PM »
Sorry Gary
I did not make it clear, I was not suggesting his contract be renewed, but was suggesting he gets a chance and is treated as any other young potentially talented player at the club.

The last thing I want to see his JB move to another club and then re-gain the form that got him signed in the first place. I think it is down to Dalton and GH to get that out of him. If this is not possible, then release him

One thing we often overlook is that every time we take a gamble on a player and it fails. Then the failure is very apparent and there for all to see. But you have to remember that someone like Alex Ferguson has hundreds of young men at Carrington on contract terms who will be paid more than JB. Yet when AF releases 20-30 of them at the end of the season, nobody will tell him what a mistake he has made. He is gambling on the next Giggs. I guess we were doing the same, but at our level.
Let's move on

Altrincham FC First Team / Peter Thomson leaves the club
« on: March 30, 2007, 05:39:26 PM »
Thomson was a bad mistake for AFC, I think we all agree on that. But to lambast him for sitting in the stand having eaten chips before a game he is taking no part in !
Maybe he had to rush to the ground to get to watch the match and needed some grub. Maybe he would have been better had he just stayed at work / home

Disgrace is too strong a word, I have watched him in the reserves and he appeared to be trying to impress GH. A player just taking the money would stroll around surely and then hope to dropped from the reserves wouldn't he ? I am sure he would have wanted to start every game and get a chance at scoring a few goals, however he has been kept out by Colin / Joe / Pat / and lately Chris all season.

To say how angry some are with him, then they should have taken up their point with him when they have seen him walking round the ground. He would then have at lest been given the chance to give his side of the story.

As for Bowler - he is only a young man and is the last chance saloon - offer him a squad number next season and let him work hard to get into the team

Altrincham FC First Team / AFC Wimbledon - Moules
« on: March 30, 2007, 01:13:32 PM »
Peake me if you so wish, but credit to Mr Moules for at least replying to Louise. I never thought he would.

I suppose JM was only 'applying' the rules last year which the club had inadvertently broke due to the failure of another club. We also know he was under pressure to apply the rules or others may have resorted to legal action.............effectively risking messing up the whole structure of Conf / Conf N / Conf S for the next season.

The real culprits in all this now seem to be the FA, who are consistently inconsistent, run football like some sort of secret society and never have to explain there actions to anybody !

Altrincham FC First Team / Managerial changes
« on: March 29, 2007, 01:11:59 PM »
I have noticed that Woking have just sacked their manager and that the Aldershot manager has recently had to leave work for private reasons (I think his wife is very ill).

How many changes is that now this season to Conference Nat. clubs (some have had more than one change) ?
Is this a Conference record (Cult / Flynny/ Guru) ?
How near is GH to being the longest serving manager in the division ?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: The Futures Bright, The Futures Robins
« on: March 29, 2007, 01:07:17 PM »
Cult..................maybe you could ask Barney's to stay open until midnight ?
That way you could get further free illumination and we could get chips on the way home after the NWS has stopped serving

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Predictions update
« on: March 20, 2007, 12:13:04 PM »
Parkin :-
He is still 11 and won't be 12 until the season is over. Therefore he will not have to change his name.

Just as well really; because displaying the wrong age may make him an ineligble player, and this could be a breach of Jezza's rules and could therefore incur a points deduction for every point gained where he used the wrong age. In the words of Eric Whalley.........a technical error.

Whether or not he is a better predictor at 12, well we will have to wait and see next season

Altrincham FC First Team / An apology - Colin Little
« on: March 14, 2007, 12:41:43 AM »
GH said recently that a massive factor in staying up or going down, was Colin Little finding his form once again.
So I think he was always going to stick with CL.

If CL had not been injured vs 'fax and not sent-off vs Vics, then he would surely have been hitting this form much earlier

Altrincham FC First Team / Playersl
« on: March 13, 2007, 03:55:00 PM »
Reading the posts there seems to be a lot of contenders this season and I have to admit it would be difficult to pick-out three players right now and put them in 1-2-3 order, but I hope Val Owen finally gets some recognition

Remember though, that at this club, there are also the squad players who deserve some recognition ie those that don't get many games; but are 100% committed, determined and keep themselves fit for when they get the call.
I am thinking of the likes of Pat McFadden (sticks at it instead of trying his luck in Unibond), Gary Talbot (must be one of the fittest senior pro's in the league), Rosie to some extent and Acky (loyalty award needed).

Surely Mrs Band is too young to remember Take That

You could always go and watch 'Fake That' at Butlins during childrens half term. Very good they were to, although I preferred the Bay City Rollers myself
