« on: July 08, 2007, 11:51:02 PM »
I hope Cavell had a 'stinker' yesterday.............well at least during the part of the game that Dave Pace managed to witness

You didn't see Pacey offering any of our youngsters the use of the penthouse above the Butchers did you ?

I hope this guy can offer us an alternative to WP at left back - hopefully he will paly Tues

Altrincham FC First Team / Boston (saved I think ?)
« on: July 04, 2007, 06:16:21 PM »
Boston web site has a very very long piece on their recent takeover

Seems the consortium who were  'taking - over' Boston were less than honourable and things had stalled. Hence it appears that the club was almost dead and buried.
Chestnut Homes have now taken over. The interesting thing being that they have not 'taken over' Boston, but have actually taken over the mob that was going to 'take over' Boston. They have had to do this because the first taker over raiders are named in the CVA

Altrincham FC First Team / Season Tickets - get one
« on: June 10, 2007, 10:03:58 PM »
Back in the big league - now's the time to go and get a ticket !

Not only are they cheaper if bought in June, but there are now 2 extra games (Oxford and Vics) as well

U14s ticket incredible value at £35

The club really needs the money if it is going to sign Ashley Cole before pre-season

Announced budget cut today
Apparantly just found out they have not paid enough to their creditors !!

Promotion chances now dinted - they now have a budget of less than half the £20k they believe is needed to win the league !

Has Mr Evans been tricked - but then again he should be glad of a job (assuming he gets paid)

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Talbot
« on: May 21, 2007, 12:35:31 PM »
I did not say that Talbs was a centre forward, I said he was a big target man i.e. somebody who is tall and can jump and would go up for corners !

If he had put away some of the chances he had at Tamworth, then maybe people would better understand what I mean

Altrincham FC First Team / Talbot
« on: May 20, 2007, 09:44:25 PM »
Talbs still has something to offer; his age and pace is against him, but he is a big target man at corners and free kicks.
There are few who can out jump him and the BSN opposition attacking styles will suit his strengths.
Maybe he can also lay off plenty of chances for Colin next season.

Get a grip Harv..................players come and go, just like people leave their own workplace when they think it is right. To call someone Judas for this is a disgrace, especially someone who has been so committed in the past.

Personally I am dissapointed in Peter Band, but like you I do not know the reasons why he has chosen to leave. Good luck to him and if he joins the Vics, so what

Altrincham FC First Team / 2007/8 season ticket prices.....
« on: May 02, 2007, 06:06:10 PM »
Yes, it is actually a very small price increase on last season. Although the season ticket cost is the same as last season, there are 2 fewer games.........but where else can you watch a decent standard of football for £7.61 per game. Crikey it's only just a few quid more than a packet of fags or 2 bottles of fraudulent Irish cider that some people dilute with ice

What's more you can probably watch the reserves for free (I say probably because it was not announced on the main web site)

The U14s kids ticket is incredible value and whilst we have 'em in the ground, they will be off the internet chatrooms

I would say to everyone that is thinking of buying a ticket, to buy it now so that the club at least knows what sales it can expect and can budget for new players etc

Sorry to be an old fuddy duddy and wanting censorship, but can we create another forum page for our under 15 friends...........their posts are becoming rather tedius and are preventing serious debate and discussion

They can then talk about Stu's heart attack and international footballing bus drivers at lenth with each other

I was on the same bus as you and when I got off in Halebarns, I bumped into Roy Keane and he said that he would come and play for Alty as well !

Sorry couldn't resist.................I will buy you a burger at the next home game ..........keep up the good posts !!

PS I went to college with a player that did actually play for the Kaiser Chiefs..............he was called Gary Bailey and was capped for England

Altrincham FC First Team / A relegation playoff?
« on: April 27, 2007, 03:01:26 PM »
Not heard of this before, but have not bothered to check either

Thought it was points; G-D, goals scored...............then aggregate result between teams level and then the toss of a coin !

I know in t'olden days that goal average was used somewhere in the system (i.e goals scored divided by goals conceded)

Altrincham FC First Team / Neil Brown
« on: April 25, 2007, 01:12:29 AM »
Things are quiet on here in relation to the resignation of Neil Brown as AFC Reserves Manager

The reserves have played some entertaining football at home this season and have provided some 'relief' from the rigours of Conf Nat. They also finished as runners up in the league...........so well done to all involved

So good luck to Neil in his future management career (wherever that is)

Speculation on his successor ?.............Mark Maddox anyone ?

Altrincham FC First Team / Tamworth and Southport down
« on: April 25, 2007, 01:04:01 AM »
The significance of the wins tonight by others has just sunk in .............Tamworth despite all their celebrations are relegated along with Southport
Although we have a 'must win' game on Saturday, we must make sure that whatever happens we finish ahead of both these teams, if not for anything else but pride.

Southport went full time - not a good move

Altrincham FC First Team / Veiga
« on: April 23, 2007, 05:53:50 PM »
In what way does goal difference indicate the the quality of otherwise of a keeper. Surely the keeper has to rely heavily on the quality of the defence in front of him and they rely on the quality of the midfield to win / keep the ball. Goal difference indicates the strength of the team as a whole.
When I let 90 goals a season in for my team, I recall only one was my fault (said with a keepers sincerity)

Veiga had a good game, he did his job. The timewasting was not breaking the rules. We would have done exactly the same. I bet if Rod or Colin had scored the chances they had, you would not have seen any timewasting at 1-1.

Best keeper in the league...........thought the guy from Woking was good, but cannot remember his name
