Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Is it going pear shaped at vics
« on: September 06, 2007, 02:11:36 AM »
I am guessing so apologise if I am way off the mark, but didn't the Chairman Mr Connett allow all the best players to leave over the summer and join other BSP clubs.
I suspect that the money received was not made available to Neil Refearn and he is now operating at a financial level somwhere closer to our own (maybe still much higher, but a lot lower than last seasons budget)

Maybe John Bond will be called back into action from his SAGA holiday quicker than he expected !

Altrincham FC First Team / Setanta deal
« on: September 06, 2007, 01:59:41 AM »
My understanding (from the recent fans forum in the NWS) is :-

That each club receives a substantial cash payment as part of the deal between the BSP and Setanta.
Each club will be on the box for a home and away game, with smaller payments made for these
That some clubs will get more coverage than others and hence more cash

The 'movement' of games and mucking about with the travel arrangements of fans etc is an unsavoury by-product of the TV deal.
Whilst I fully agree that the 'organising committee' at Setanta look somewhat amateurish and sometimes they completely disregard the views of the fans, this is what happens when TV is allowed to pick and choose games to suit viewing figures......... Commercialism takes over.

Seems to me that Alty have done ok out of this deal (remember - no money for BSN !). The old adage......."he who pays the piper, picks the tune" springs to mind

Altrincham FC First Team / Marcus Hallows
« on: August 23, 2007, 10:57:07 PM »
Just for the benefit of any younger supporters / new supporters / forum readers from other clubs.................Marcus is an ex Alty striker who suffered an horrendous leg injury during the Conference North 'promotion season' (04-05) in a game versus Ashton United.

Sadly it was his last game as a player, however he has continued with his 'other' job as an Elvis impersonator

Just come in from the Quarrybank in Timperley.
Noticed that they are having a 'family fun day' on Sunday (face painting, DJ etc), all for a local charity.
Live on stage at 9pm is "Marcus Hallows as Elvis" !

Thought I would post this for anyone who likes a beer, likes Elvis and would like to see Marcus 'perform' in Altrincham once again

Jenga
It's 9 goals conceded not 10.....

Before the game my heart said we would win / draw.
However if I had been making a trip to the bookies with my own tenner, then I confess that I would have backed Exeter to win.

If we had lost 2-1, then I think that would not have been anything unusual. Most neutrals would have predicted this. We only lost by more by pushing for a late equaliser........so what, we ended up with the same amount of points at the end of the game that I (realistically) expected........NB 135 more points still to play for !

We played ok in my view, scored and then kept Exeter at bay for an hour. We should be able to do this against a lesser team for 90 mins and get some points on the board

On another note
If we opened against Stafford and beat them, followed by a draw / win at Halifax on Tues, and then lost at home to Exeter..........then it would not hurt as much !!

Altrincham FC First Team / Sendings off
« on: August 12, 2007, 12:45:45 PM »
Just a 'stats' thing, but we had no bookings at our game yesterday, whereas I have read that several of our rivals had players sent off (Farlsey, Droylsden & Vics)

Altrincham FC First Team / Hope your proud / communication
« on: August 12, 2007, 12:34:44 PM »
When Baldrick talks about a lack of communication from the manager / club, then he is talking nonsense

The club's website is always up to date and puts those websites of our premiership neighbours to shame. The content is always accurate and conveys the 'full' picture in relation to what is happening at the club i.e there are no secrets other than confidential info (eg players wages etc).
People should try reading it. For those without internet access, then the Messenger provides a good level of info.

The club has also held forums in the past, but surprisingly the last one was not well attended.

On another communications theme; yesterday I heard a (long time) supporter ask why Lewis Chalmers was not playing. His friend replied that the player must be injured !

Altrincham FC First Team / Some Positives !
« on: August 12, 2007, 01:46:57 AM »
Two things :-

Did anybody notice that our attendance today was more than that of many of the other Conference teams at home; Crawley, Ebbsfleet, Droylsden, Histon & Farsley

We've got the same amount of points as Stevenage and York (and Northwich and Halifax etc)

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Crawley conclude CVA
« on: August 11, 2007, 12:19:58 PM »
Inevitable really...............they have had the money all along but needed to pay up yesterday in order to play their new signings. They knew exactly what they were doing.

No surprise at all.
In the business world, its called JIT payments (where JIT - just in time). Payments are deliberately paid late, against the terms of the contract, but paid just in time to prevent the recipient from taking action. Large contractors sometimes do this to their smaller suppliers. The extra interest gained by the increased positive cashflow can be substantial at the year end.

« on: August 03, 2007, 03:32:58 PM »
Thought he put in a few decent performances when played in the middle.............if GH thought he could 'do a job' in the Conference National, then he was clearly playing below himself when at Unibond 1 level.

Obviously he was released because GH needed to improve the squad and he did not make the 'cut' for this season, but there is every possibility that he could operate at BSN level. Only time will tell.

Give the lad a break; he came here to play because he was asked to, he did not make the grade and now he has gone. We would all do the same. At least he never sat around injured and has not slagged the club off after his release

Not sure what this is all about, but the original post makes reference to Potts'y 'picking' on somebody half his size...............................half his size ? was the other person really only 4 years old ?

Thought we didn't give Potts enough of the ball on Tuesday
