Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Northwich - any evidence ?
« on: October 08, 2007, 06:22:06 PM »
Thanks Ecky..........what you say obviously indicates that things are looking very very bleak for the Vics. My original post was not suggesting that there is a white knight out there, but was trying to establish if the 'liquidation issue' is an absolute known fact or just a very strong rumour (for which somebody thought to Peake me........this country)

There is very little in the local press about the whole matter.

For the record Matnvfcmad; I hope you get it sorted...........as long as you finish the season below us

Altrincham FC First Team / Northwich - any evidence ?
« on: October 08, 2007, 02:59:45 PM »
Everything I read and hear seems to indicate that Northwich are well and truly in the brown stuff e.g the winding up order from the civil servants, the high court order to pay Hodkinson's, the low attendances and poor points tally etc.
However why is everyone so certain that they will soon cease to exist........whereas things look very bleak, where is the hard evidence.

Maybe there will be a buyer, maybe they will go down the admin route or maybe they don't actually owe as much as people think and MC will clear the debt..........who knows ?

Am I missing something or is this all speculation at the moment ?

BBC site says games on 03 May move to SAT 26 May .............so Weymouth on a Saturday
Games on originally scheduled for 26th move to Tues 22nd

Ruined a Bank Holiday at the seaside for which I intended to book in the next few weeks........feel sorry for those who will lose deposits

In answer to SW, I think it was Denis Law's last ever kick in English football, although I am sure he represented Scotland in the 1974 World Cup that Summer

The incident is recalled in his excellent autobiography, 'The King'. I think he was clearly upset and substituted. The City captain (Doyle ?) was not impressed and lost the head with him in the dressing rooms afterwards.

If anyone gets chance to read the book, it's a good read. Tells how football was in them days, and it's a real eye opener. If you dislike Manchester United, then don't be put off, it's about the great man and his involvement with football and life after (not just Utd)

Yes we played a poor Droylsden side, but they are in this division on merit and probably have a budget that exceeds our own. Had they taken a point and denied us 3 points, then we may have lived to regret it come April (remember Stafford last season).

Losing influential / key players to injury could have resulted in an even worse outcome. But it did not. The players showed great spirit to dig in and prevent this from happening.
Both penalties could have been avoided and can be put down to inexperience, without these the scoreline would have closer resembled the difference in class and tactics on the day i.e 3-0 !

With losing comes a losing culture, winning is about restoring confidence and self belief. The players need to believe they are good enough to play in this division.........I know people will think 'we have only beat Droylsden', whatabout Burton etc, but just maybe the win is all that was needed

Altrincham FC First Team / Get behind the team - we have not been relegated
« on: September 20, 2007, 01:20:32 PM »
Lots of stuff on here over the last few weeks - I am going to give it a miss for a fortnight before I lose my job, but before I do I thought I would make a post.

Last season we were relegated - nobody called for GH to be sacked
The season before last we were relegated - nobody called for GH to be sacked
This season we have not been relegated - lots of people want GH to be sacked.

My point is that nobody ever got relegated before Christmas.............so give the management a chance.....we have had tough games and despite seemingly bizare tactics, none of us have managed at this level before, so none of us can be completely sure of the reasoning behind the decisions. Let GH & DS engineer a great escape. What makes people so sure that a change will be a positive one ?
If we are relegated then review the situation again in May, but now let's all get behind the team.
For those that think we are relegated now, then 5th from bottom will be a huge bonus.

On the Conf N v Conf issue.......I would prefer to see us struggle against the FT teams and finish 19th, 2000 on boxing day etc, than play away at Alfreton and win.

Regards Geoff..........well he is one of those people who will always react like he does, its called frustration and speaking out and saying the wrong things. Who has not done that. Maybe Ecky should be spokesman (on seeing his silky slik PR skills on an earlier post ! If Geoff has offended, then be a little more thick skinned and remember that he is one member of a 7 person board who have done tremendous things for this club.

It could be worse..........we could have Connett and Warhurst

Forget it and don't be insulted Easter

Surely kids these days can experience plenty of wins............on PS2 that is.......why, only this evening my son's scratch team of Alty heroes have just beaten Real Madrid by a big score.

Some good posts here and I think I can agree with parts of all of them.
Kids will be kids and they don't want to see losing sides, but once they get older and can understand the real world a little better, then it becomes easier to convince a kid that live football at Moss Lane is always better than MUFC on the telly.

Getting it across that it is tough in a league where money often buys survival is something kids don't appreciate. I ask my son to try and enjoy the match with his mates, be entertained by some of the good opposition players on display, support the Alty and if we win see it as a bonus.  A little bit negative in some respects.......but it works.

Mr Chuckles
Not a bad representation of the game from your friend, although Munroe was sent off after the second goal and not before it. I very much doubt he would have been sent off if they had not scored the second goal !

Not sure why Asa played at left back, and was dissappointed to see him named there on the teamsheet. However it is worth mentioning that, on the day, he played very well considering what he was up against.
Not sure why Clancy did not play, but we do not know the whole story.......maybe he was not fit. We know Scotty was not fit and Wozza was used in a more preferred position.

Some great posts below
Ballers I like the idea of a return and hence do the Yankee and the golden goal

For those that are unaware, the Yankee is £1 per week by standing order with chance of winning anything between £500 and £4k (I actually have 2 goes per week to double my chances).
I think there may be a few new supporters out there who are unaware of what the Yankee is.........its a great fundraiser for the club, gives the punter the chance of a big win and I suspect that many people would not miss a quid a week.

I would also chuck more in the buckets if the 'new church roof' idea was adopted (with Blue Peter totaliser !) i.e new

PS Stafford losing and have only 10 men

Altrincham FC First Team / Jim Smith
« on: September 09, 2007, 11:49:15 PM »
Football management must be a 'funny old game'...........whilst Jim was getting his 'boys' fish and chips from Barneys after the match, we were watching England on the (impressive) new telly.
England; as everyone knows are ably managed by Steve McClaren, who was Jim's assistant only a few years ago !

PS I am not having a go at Jim Smith, he may be 67 and probably past it, but he started off in non-league and has 'done the business' at several clubs. He worked his way up through the lower league clubs and did not get a job on the back of being a high profile player.

Sorry, nowt to do with Alty, but a change from the recent posts etc

Mauso
Read my recent posts of today...............show me the 'negative talk' please.

Will the fact that the players see that 11 people think we will stay up and 1 thinks we will go down really 'lift' them ? If it were the other way round I wouldn't expect that they would be to disenchanted either.
The players are 'professional' (even if p/t) and experienced enough to know how football works.

For the record, I believe if we continue to play like we did on Saturday, then we will pick up enough points to stay up.

Let me know what the benefits have been to the club, team and supporters when the survey has been concluded...........should I go to the bookies and back the result ?

Rant over.
I apologise for the cynical comments, but I honestly believe it's too early to undertake the poll based on the fact that we have not seen the team play enough games yet

Louise.......where does it say that you get relegated for losing 4 games at home on the bounce ?

Last season we won 4 away games on the bounce.........Therefore I think we should have been automatically promoted.

Let's worry about the games we are expected to win !

Not a good start, although I think the performances I have seen have showed an improvement in quality on last season.

Without analysing things to death, I think it is worth mentioning that the fixtures have hardly been kind to us. Somebody pointed out last night that if the fixtures were reversed i.e home games against Stafford, Halifax, FGR, York.........then we may well have found ourselves with 7 to 10 points by now (and where then is the problem with that !)

Give it more time.......let's not panic and let's see where we are on bonfire night

PS the last 8 home games are against 'beatable' teams (if you know what I mean)
