Darren,

Photograph No. 2

This is NOT the 1986 FA Trophy Final squad, as a certain Graham Heathcote appears on it and he left Alty to join Witton Albion during the 1984/85 season.

Trevor Dance is also on the back row (next to that man Colin Chesters again) and he had been replaced in goal by Jeff Wealands for the 1985/86 season.

Therefore, I would say that it was taken outside the Bowdon Hotel circa 1984/85.

I challenge anyone on the Forum to identify all the people on that photograph....!

Photograph No. 3

That's Russell Green, signed from Emley by Gerry Quinn in 1992.

Front - Allan, King, Rooney
Second row - Hawkins, Brady, Davison, Constantine, Gardner
Third row - Ellis, Anderson, King,
Fourth row - Bennett, Cruikshank, Conning
Fifth row - Edwards, Smith, Johnson

Bogman,

By my reckoning, you are correct apart from two surnames:

Fourth row: the middle one is not (Paul) Cruickshank;

Fifth row: the middle one is not (Gareth, I assume you meant?) Smith
(although the player in question did indeed occupy the same position).

Have a Goodwin for a fine effort!

Can anyone else name the final two?

Phil,

I really thought it was that mad Scot we had for a few weeks around that time Jeff Tim! Doesn't look at all like Cote to me.
Need to work out the other two wrong ones!

Keeper cenrtre 5th row Phil Jackson?

Surely not John Aspinall cventre row 4?

Definitely not Mick Fagan or Phil Derbyshire, Mick Farrelly or Peter Densmore...

Someone please put me out of my misery on this!

Did Gary Stewart have a very brief spell with us in the 84/85 season without making many, if any, appearances before resigning for us in the late 80s?

Bogman,

You've talked yourself out of that one!
The 'mystery man' in the centre of the fourth row is definitely Mick Fagan.

Sorry, but Phil Jackson is not correct though.....

Ballers,

Much earlier, young man.

Gary Stewart first appeared on an Alty team sheet as a substitute in the fixture against Gravesend & Northfleet at Moss Lane on 27th September 1980.
