Title: Question re Floodlights at Moss Lane.
Post by: Ballers on December 17, 2008, 05:15:30 PM
Ok, apart from the fact that the new ones aren't as good as the old ones, I understand that the reasons for the floodlight failure against Luton (and possibly Farsley and Wrexham) was that the fuse went because it required so much electricity, or that other parts of the ground were overloading the circuits, (namely the chip fryers in the new snack bar).

I believe this was got round in the Luton game by switching off all other lights etc (in the bar and offices, dressing rooms during the game) so as to keep the power on.

If that is correct, can I just enquire whether the problem has been rectified fully as when Setanta come on New Years Day they will be using extra power and swicthing everything else apart from the floodlights off won't be an option?

Anyone at the club shed some light on this potentially huge problem?

From my experience, setanta will have a generator truck..although details of any improvements made sine the night the lights went out  would be good.

Seems strange that the manufacturers of the floodlights didn't talk of what power they would need out of the circuit.

If we need any hardware, what do we need?

I am out tomorrow afternoon with a lighting wholesaler....

If what has been suggested on here is actually accurate it is VERY worrying. It implies the entire supply into the ground needs to be upgraded as do the RCD's on distribution boards to other areas such as offices etc. They should trip carrying smaller voltage than the lights!
It seriously sounds like something that should have been investigated at the planning stage.

My mate came on the forum last week pointing out of a lack of
infomation between club & fans, surely here is an example of
this.I have heard various reasons being branded about for
why the floodlights failed,so why don't the club put out a
statement giving it's fans the true story.Surely that is not
alot to ask & can't see any harm in that myself. If the
club has it's reasons for keeping it low profile then fair
enough.Surely us & Droylsden don't have something in
common.
