Peter Frankish and Peter Schofield in 1972-74

Peter Frankish was the worst goalkeeper we have ever had at Altrincham apart from Bobby Irvine (and HE was an Irish International!)

I remember driving to Fleetwood for a midweek night match to watch him throw one in his own net! that bloke was unbelieveable.

a 'fast and tricky winger' (programme notes to describe who?) - we've got Ernie Peters (um, is ths right?)

Sorry I was late with your request, SW, but I think I can help out MG here, You are probably thinking of Frankie Peters our number 4 (wide midfield in todays parlance)in the Cheshire League champioship side.
I've still got the cutting from the MEN in the build up to the Wolves game where he's at work at his garage job and pretending to lift a car back axle like a set of weights.

PS: You didn't mean Ernie Taylor, our winger from a couple of years before that did you? Can't comment on him as I never saw him play.

I think it's great that you can get a good idea as to how old the posters are by who their favourite players are!

It shows we've had some fantastic players throughout the years.

PS: Apart from Jeff Johnson and Graham Barrow, my favourites would include Crackerjack Swindells and Derek 'Tank' Halliwell!
(What does THAT do for guesses at my age? :D)

Noel was a great man, a fantastic servant to our club and somebody who we should all feel grateful to for his time with us.
He moved on to bigger things (like his, then, partner) and played a major part in founding the modern-day Alty.
I wish him good luck.

If Crawley go bump, then would they be one of the 4 teams to be relegated?

Yes - but as has been said on other threads, it's highly unlikely that they would be allowed to go bust.

As it's about 45 miles to Alty, I've never been to a reserves game for many years (not since the Manchester League days when Roy Wilford scored the winner!)

Am I right in assuming we don't do programmes for these? If so, might that not be another idea to make a little more money by selling a four page basic programme for 50p or £1? I'm sure lots of people would buy them and it would all add to the coffers wouldn't it?

What if B ush is fit?

It would have to be Bush instead of Eddie or Val, unfortunately - Lewis and Robbie are cert starters for me.

Perhaps we need to bring back John Rogers?

After all, he was very good at one form of playing away (allegedly)!

Didn't he used to score very regularly indeed?

dont quite agree with the idea of GH telling them all no overnight stays, how exactly would this spur the lads on to win away??? if anything it would reduce the chance!!

Think that was tongue-in-cheek wasn't it?

I think we should just carry on the way we are doing and it will come right for us in time.
You need to be fast on the break with wide players to get anything away from home in this league and we're only building up to that as yet!

6444
For me, if we're talking about current players, it would be;

Kevin Ellison on the wing and Danny Adams at left back.

PS: I'd try to find a place for Paul 'Top Banana' Ellender too.

Pukka Pies ... used to be available at all top Northern grounds in the 80s eg Donny Rovers, Scunny and Chesterfield to name a few !

Makes a pleasant change from the cucumber sandwiches at the largest Northern grounds!

I think I should try a few before I make any more comments!

- mines a Snake and Pigmy  ;D ;D  ;)

6446
PS:

If they gave us free pies to entice more speccies in the ground, I think I could be persuaded  ;D

6447
Hollands pies perhaps that's another story  :D - Pukka pies is that southern rubbish isn't it?  ???

Knowing Alty, they always do it when you least expect it -

and I'd never expect it at York ..................

What a result that would be - Joe scoring the winner on his return! :o :o :o :o

Yes, it's tragic what's happened to them.
I really hope they pull round enough to stay up in the CN - obviously their gates have suffered too.

Yes it will be a real disaster if Nationwide go.

Am I right in thinking that Pukka Pies are negotiating to take over sponsorship?!!

The "Pukka Pies Conference" will not do a great deal to increase the credibility of the league in the eyes of the Football League  ::)
