Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Moving On
« on: May 13, 2022, 07:43:52 AM »
I think the club have just revealed the players who won’t be staying on next season in a Facebook post.

Hampson, Densmore, Moult, Thompson, Hancock, White and Hannigan.

All great servants to the club who will be missed.

I'm not surprised to see the names on the list, and presented like that it makes for sober reflection on the enormity of the task we face next season.  Ambition aside (and I acknowledge the desire to move forward and seek competitive play at the highest level), we are looking at virtually the entire core/backbone/leadership (call it what you will) of the team not being here next season, and the loss of an abundance of experience and sure footed leadership.  This is a mammoth task ahead of us, one I hope we will manage to navigate safely; it will require patience and a resolute determination to make it work.

I am very surprised we haven't posted on the website by now.

As Bath Alty says, key news like this needs to be distributed across all of the club's media channels, not just the most convenient ones.

Having been involved in the set-up previously I do not suspect that the website has been purposefully overlooked, rather, there may be some misalignment between volunteers somewhere.

It doesn't need an essay, just a quick release to cover the news that can be followed up by a tribute article or two.

Nail hit firmly on head.

Who actually oversees what appears on the club's official website these days?

My understanding is that it is a collaborative approach with several volunteers involved. From the outside looking in it appears that our media setup may be in a bit of a transitional period and there are a few teething problems. I do hope that we don't end up with a 'too many cooks' scenario.

I want it to be clear that I mean no criticism of anyone who volunteers to maintain our generally superb output. I did reach out to a member of the board to offer my support and I am sure if they feel it is needed in the short term, that they know where I am.

Is Ed Painter a volunteer?
Not sure, but he's leaving at the end of the season.

That's correct. Ed volunteered for social media management experience over the course of this season, resuming those responsibilities from myself last summer. I believe he has decided to step away at the end of the season, and I do not know what the club's plans are to fill that vacancy.

Many thanks for that enlightenment.

Perhaps our media operations will fall under the remit of our impending new CEO?

Perhaps. I’ve long been of the opinion that a full time digital marketing role needs to be one of the first non-football hires the club needs to make. Of course there may be some industry bias on my part there! At least five clubs in the National League North have one, you need only look at the work the lad at York City is doing to see the value if you get it right.

Maybe they do, but I've yet to see any other club at this level (or thereabouts) offering the same quality in terms of both quality and design.

Altrincham FC First Team / Link to Notts tickets
« on: May 05, 2022, 05:18:31 PM »
I may be being dim, but is there a link to purchase Notts tix?  Or whereabouts in the ground are away fans mens to book?

This in advance.

Retain:
Thompson
Mullarkey
Ferguson
Marriott
Osborne
Mooney
Kosylo
Colclough - although I suspect we'll entertain the right offers to subsidise our transition

Sign (if we can):
Jones - realistic
Cooper - more realistic now Rotherham have gone up
Perritt - well regarded, would have to push hard or get another loan
Hulme - amazed if not already a done deal
Kirby - assume he'll be a free agent

Would have retained but now expecting to depart:
Gould?
Drench?
White - shame, as he'd played himself right back into the picture
Hampson - good full time job and poor injury record
Hannigan - left Fylde for same reasons
Moult - not getting younger, assume he has a good job too
Hancock - good job outside football

Undecided:
Pringle (depends who else we can get in)

Would have expected to release anyway:
Densmore
Sutton
Digie
Morgan
Jackson
Dinanga
Leitch-Smith

This is about right.  I'm surprised/disappointed at comments suggesting Hannigan and Hampson are not good enough, as I think both are still capable and intelligent players capabel of doing a job for us; I have no idea what Tom does outside football (I know that Conner is a teacher) and so I'd understand if secure employment prospects meant that they wanted to remain p/t.

Great to see this is back up and running, thank you for all you do to keep it running.

I believe strongly that we are blessed by the look and feel of our forum, compared to others I have seen.

As has been said elsewhere, both Stockport and Wrexham are streaks ahead in this league and their promotion will be deserved, if/when if happens.  Tend to disagree with the comments re. stadium; it generated a decent atmosphere and I bet the Wrexham players love playing there.  Need to put this behind us now and look to Saturday when I win is a realistic possibility.

The combination of good weather and a relatively easy drive over from Chesterfield, makes me think that they'll bring plenty with them this evening.

Difficult to predict the outcome as they looked very good in the first half when we played them at their place, before relinquishing their lead in the second.  I'd be very happy with a draw, and delighted with a win.

Not really bothered whether or not music is played over the PA at HT, and I think it was OTT on Saturday.  I'd be dead against the introduction of other non-football entertainment though, particularly at HT.  If punters need something other than the football to get them to come along, then its likely that football is simply not for them.

God, there's some miserable buggers on here.

Not at all. However, when I go to a football match it's about football first and foremost. I used to enjoy the half-time penalty competitions, the crossbar challenge, the kids games we sometimes saw. Music is a LONG way down the desirability list, and certainly when it's cranked up so loud that conversation is difficult. The three showcased musical offerings on Saturday ? The first one wasn't all that bad, the last one would have been better if the singer interpreted the song better - but the one in the middle was utter sh*te, and if I heard it ever again it would be too soon.

Meanwhile, I might contact the Manchester Arena and ask if they fancy staging sport related entertainment in the gap between the support act and the headliners. Then again, maybe not - I can guess the answer.

If you enjoy watching kids kick a ball about at half time rather than listen to some bands that's definitely something a bit fishy

Explain please.

Thanks Jacob....I have no need to read up on his character...least of all from newspaper that you would expect to be unsupportive of him anyway and yet has helped carry him along for almost two years.

Regardless of where the article was published, you do realise that Hastings was referring to his time as editor of The D Telegraph, a paper that, as far as I can recall, has ever been accused of Left-wing bias.

Monkey see, monkey do.

These knuckle draggers - many of whom pitch up at football grounds on a Saturday afternoon - parrot whatever is fed to them.

We know Johnson is a liar.

Funny thing is though...…..it's all a one-way street

When he says things that the papers and media pundits agree with, then he is believed and nobody bothers to challenge him to provide rationale behind his decisions.
When he says something that the papers and media do not agree with, then he is liar and an idiot and explanations are demanded.

Nothing funny about the character operating out of No.10, and your point about papers agreeing or disagreeing is not exclusive to this PM or any other.  If you want to know something of his character you should read this character assassination from his former employer and editor at The Daily Telegraph.  https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2019/jun/24/boris-johnson-prime-minister-tory-party-britain

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Boreham Wood Match Thread
« on: February 16, 2022, 07:33:01 AM »
Now the backslapping from beating the leagues whipping boys on Saturday has died down, nows the chance to give everyone a real sense of perspective - if we lose on Saturday Weymouth will be 6 points behind us with a game in hand. But at least we’ve now won 1 in about 30 games 👍

Well done-away at a heavily bankrolled side who won away at the team second in the Championship 9 days ago & who haven’t lost a game at their own ground this season, what exactly were you expecting tonight?

Let’s hope we don’t have your kind of ‘support’ in the crucial Weymouth game on Saturday.

Well said Pal…

Exactly this.  Routinely astonished at the lack of perspective adopted by some (mercifully few) fans on here.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Woking Match Thread
« on: February 06, 2022, 06:12:12 PM »
Something of a game of two halves yesterday.  Having conceded in the first 30 seconds and then taken another hit by allowing their striker to get into space and shoot, the conversations I had at half-time were mostly about damage limitation.  However, I thought that we showed some fight in the second half and there were periods when we actually looked dangerous and (dare I say it?) confident with the ball.  Yes, TT kept us in it with some spectacular saves (that deservedly got him his MotM award) but we matched Woking in the second half and I would argue deserved a share of the points.  Thought the noisy response from the fans was terrific and showed that there is a desire both on and off the pitch to get through this and secure safety.

Just aghast that these Macc scum took the trouble to come all the way to Moss Lane just to stand outside the ground being dickheads

'Being dickheads' is the only thing they're good at.
