Yet again we signally failed to master a team who have been in relegation trouble all season. That says they are poor....but we contrived to make them look decent.
Apart from the capitulation against Welling, that was by some way the poorest showing at Moss Lane this season. It would be hard to name one player who had a decent game to be perfectly honest. And ironically Tom Marshall earned Man of the Match after possibly his poorest display of the season.
OK, it's been a long season and we were short on numbers, but that doesn't excuse some of the farcical stuff we displayed today. The ref was poor, but that didn't really affect what happened. Unlike Gateshead, we can't blame the pitch because it was in excellent condition, and a credit to our ground staff.
I'm not going to pick on individuals, because this was overall a dreadful performance by the entire team. Only a sense of loyalty stopped leaving long before the end.

So what do you propose??

it was a tired end of season performance by a team that's run out of gas. Clee and the defenders were up for it, but reeves, lawrie and richman looked knackered, williams and sinnott simply not up to the task. is that everyone. without a midfield they were always going to hard to beat. now the pressure is off them they've won three on the bounce. their manager must be tearing his hair out.

God only knows....but then I'm not a football manager.

It was a slow game, and from a photographic perspective, very little of interest came our way.
I had too much time to focus on players, which suggests a general lack of movement, and this was mostly due to both teams not really wanting to close down their opposite number.
Poor match really; I have felt for the past few games that our players have been thinking more about their summer holiday than the game they are playing.

If you thought it was bad trying to photograph it, you should have tried commentating on it for Radio Robins !

Very poor game and even worse than at Torquay when again we only started to play when we were two down. We certainly look more of a threat when Kyle is up front, not matter what most on this forum think of him.
A win at Braintree would be nice to make the final table look decent as we could move up 3 places.
I am sure Lee has started plans for next season. Overall we have done very well this season but have also been very fortunate (for a change)- only a few injuries, very few postponements, very few Tue night matches and until recent weeks few suspensions.
-
What baffled me was we started 1 up front last game of the season at home in front of a decent crowd against an already relegated team
What was the caution for ?
Entertain us !!
Last few games have been dreadful
-
Can't help feeling Braintree will be more of the same. Let's hope not as the supporters who go are shelling out quite a bit of their hard earned to get there and support them.
-
A big reason for the poor end of the season is because the players are safe they know Sinnott keeps everyone take last season the only 3 players who left buzz wally and rogers went by choice and were not released

It was atrocious. Safe we may be but that was shocking. Any thoughts about going to Braintree have been well and truly put to bed.
As for who stays and who goes, obviously Gillespie left at Xmas. The others Id let go would be Parton, Willaims, Wilkinson and Sinnott. They're not bad players, but to take the team forward we need to get better quality.
-
Yes, absolutely Barry White, like watching the worst bits of the early part of the season.
-
Yes sinnott perry gillespie should go I do think wilkinson and Williams are fair players but Sinnott does not play them so they should go we also need a new keeper

I agree about the keeper. I'm not Coburn's biggest fan, but Parton is no better.
I have to disagree about Williams. He has regressed as the season has gone on, and not from particularly lofty heights either. I genuinely fear that Perry will stay, despite his obvious shortcomings.
-
Sinnott played more centrally yesterday , good free kick taker but is he any better than on the right? I reckon him and Perry will stay .

They will stay they shouldn't though

Williams was superb when he came on at Dartford, he really helped steady things up at a time when Dartford could have crept back into the game. Definitely worth keeping.

I'll have to take your word for that as I wasn't there, but I see a headless chicken who misplaces an awful lot of passes. Yesterday was more of the same.

Prefer him to sinnott ,we need a quality creative midfielder
-
Telford 0 points
Nuneaton 0 points
Alfreton 1 point
Welling 3 points (0-4 at home).
Add to that Bath and Blyth.
Surely this proves that football is played as much in the brain as anything else - as yesterday obviously proved.
Of course the players do nor consciously approach such games differently, but there might be something in the way the players are mentally prepared that might make a difference next year, irrespective of who stays.
-

why will they stay?
Why do you think they will go?
no I think Sinnott jnr will stay because he the managers son - and Perry will stay because he the managers mate
-
Seven points all season out of a possible 24 points against the bottom four sides, is something that cannot be allowed to happen next season; because if it does, it will probably mean relegation.
This season the team has played some terrific football and beaten some good sides, but unless the playing staff improve dramatically, history says that winning games next season against the same 'good' sides will be more difficult. I know I am stating the obvious here, but we will need to accumulate our 56 points next season by beating poor teams.
To be 'safe' with what will turn out something like 6 or 7 games remaining is a good achievement and has exceeded my expectations, so credit to all involved at the club. Like everyone else, I do think some tough decisions need to be made ahead of next season to improve the side.
I think next season will be tougher and any talk of play-off expectations should be put to one side, because I don't think the club has the budget at the moment to carry a squad size needed to push on at the time when tiredness, injuries and suspensions all seem to kick-in at about ten games to go, nor the budget to have a top quality bench of players who will change a game. However things are moving in the right direction and never say never
-
i would keep perry,he works hard when his is on and his flick-ons do make a difference. As for sinnot a big no from me,if there is a 50/50 ball he will back out of it and he cannot keep the ball ,his heart doesnot seem to be in it.
-
Yesterday one big let down , end of season or not we still pay good money to watch , having said that the season overall far better than expected , obviously we need to strengthen squad , midfield especially ,don't think Sinnott jnr. good enough Perry is mate of Masher so maybe if one leaves the other might to ,poor old Reeves alone up front to often ,Swift looked useful .
-
Yesterday showed how important Moult & Cavanagh are to the current midfield. Both should be available for selection next week so one would hope for a better overall performance. Williams runs around in circles for me & is nowhere near an adequate replacement for either.
Sadly, Parton gives me no feeling of confidence whatever, but if what we want is a reserve/understudy to Coburn we will get no-one any better. To attract a keeper of a proven, decent standard it has to be clear that at the very least the no.1 shirt is up for grabs.
I felt - and said - that we could well finish April with the same number of points as we finished March. Well, we did beat Southport - I wasn't there so I can't comment - so I was wrong, but not far wrong. We tend to do poorly in April in the Conference - a combination of a small, part-time squad running out of steam and sometimes a natural reaction to achieving safety with a number of games to go. Not enough in itself to get our collective knickers in a twist about, to be honest.
-
Add to that a team who know they have a gig next year so why bother giving 100%
-
I dont want to lay blame at Jordan Sinnott's feet because he gets picked by someone else, albeit his dad, plays to the best of his ability and gives all he can. I just note that since he started starting games for us we have gone off form badly.
Have we upset the balance of the team?
Did we need him, maybe the players feel the same?
Is he bringing something we havent got? Set plays make up a tiny part of the 90 minutes and we were ok before.
I just don't get it. When someone came on here and said 'nepotism' he/she was greeted with a bit of a bashing. I cant help thinking if the same post was made now it would not be so controversial!!

I think we have badly missed Shaun Densmore since he got injured as well. That's not anything against Scott Leather, but Shaun is a much better player going forward and when you lose someone that important it's going to knock the balance of the team big time.
It's not all about Jordan Sinnott, irrespective of the validity of any criticism he receives.

That wasn't my point. I'm saying that things started to go wrong in terms of results when he started playing. It could be that it just so happens they changed the half time oranges on the same week, or changed how many star jumps they do in the warm up. Fact remains, thats when we started to stumble. It could also be because we've worked incredibly hard all season and with the main objective achieved so early just let our foot off the pedal.
-
The run of form down to a small tired squad who are not putting in 100% because they have little to play for in a way it's good Sinnott jnr has had run of games it means Sinnott knows he isn't good enough unlike wilkinson who didn't get a chance

I know that, you know that....in Lee's case, see under "rose coloured glasses".
-
The largest contributors to our poor form have been (in this order);
1. The loss of Sean Densmore
2. The tiredness of a small squad of players who have run their hearts out this season
3. A bit of complacency at our early survival
I do not believe that Jordan Sinnott is to blame for our poor form at all. However, I also don't believe that he is good enough for a place in our squad at Alty and contrary to what some may feel, I don't think he'll be offered a contract next season either.
