Sad News about an unsung hero!!!
« on: March 09, 2013, 07:26:20 PM »

I am not sure if the club are aware but one of the back room staff from our great days sadly passed away this week .

I think some how the club should be represented at his funeral on march 15 th 3.30pm at alty crem. Obviously i wish i could be but given circumstances it cannot be done

So who is it , someone very few people will know about, but his name was Eric Holt and he worked or volunteered as a scout during our halcyon days . Erics kids Phil and jackie are friends of mine who i grew up with from a very early age so I may be biased.

Amongst other stories i remember Dave Baldwin telling me in his office at the Bowdon Hotel shortly before the sheffield utd game that Eric had said that stuar t Houston was crap and we should run everything down the left with Barry Howrad nominated to tear houston apart.
anyone who was at moss lane that night (possiblY one of our finest games) for the replay will know how much that bit of advise worked.

God Bless your Eric you where a fine man and i hope you rest in Peace

Didn't know the Gentleman but as others have said, It is always a good thing when people who do great things for the club (and supporters) are remembered in this way

RIP Eric

Back in 1980-82, I played junior Sunday football for Melrose Wanderers, based at Halecroft Park. Eric Holt sometimes used to coach us. I was just thinking of him the other day. Such sad news.

The figures in our history may pass, but their legacy remains.

My sister, a lifelong friend of Eric's daughter Jackie, told me about Eric's death last night. I was also coached by Eric at various times when I first started playing football. A wonderfully enthusiastic and knowledgeable coach who fueled my love of the game.

I didn't know he had any connection with the club.

RIP Eric and thanks for everything.
