I'd rather oppose the points deduction altogether.
Points deductions should be, used where teams have deliberately tried to get around the rules. I know the club statement may only tell one side but it doesn't seem like there was anything suspicious going. This is about paper shufflers ganging up to justify their importance.
I see your logic, but where do you draw the line on this ? Genuine errors, genuine stupidity, or blatent manipulation. How do you really know ?
Say a team we are about to play sign a superstar player and try and register him on the day of a midweek game. They know the paperwork is in, but they haven't got the email back from the Conf by 5pm before the game. He plays - scores a debut hat-trick and we lose.
Later the team claim it's a genuine oversight - they thought they had registered the player - hence they receive no penalty.............is that fair on us and other teams ?
Unfortunately in the words of the dastardly Mr Peake - rules are rules
