With Hyde 4th in the NPL this is definitely a big step up from beating Northwich & Stalybridge. Granted I suspect they will also rotate-Conference North is their aim. It is still a plastic pitch I believe-part of the logic of switching from our place. Will be a good test for the squad players. I hope attitudes are correct as we’ll get done if not.

That was superb. Eastleigh couldn’t live with us & from 1-11 everyone made a contribution. Back to 2000+ Saturday home gates being the norm too. Should get 3k against Rochdale in a few weeks I’d wager.

Be good on Tuesday for the squad & also Parky mentioned Donowa in his interview too so great to see him back.

The pitch looked fine too. The real test will be the 3 games in 7 days mind.

Yeah, the pitch & the forecast no doubt a big concern. Plus side is it’s over 2 weeks since we last had a home match & I believe we’ve borrowed some heat lamps off Stoke for the especially dodgy patch in front of the main stand. The forecast tomorrow well known & we’ve had time to prepare plus it should stop at least 3-3.5 hrs before KO so gives us some time to work on it.
As part of the pitch crew, Stoke haven’t lent us any lamps.
Who told you they have ?

Well, someone certainly has. See the post on the Facebook group earlier today.

Yes. I meant to put it to the boffins on here about Newby. What do we think the chances are of keeping him until the end of the season (when, I believe, his contract at Colchester expires)?

If the Cowleys  see him in their plans,he will possibly go back otherwise its loan extended, pay a transfer fee or get released from his contact ?

I get the impression that Alex N wishes to come back to the NW for lifestyle reasons as much as football. So, if the Cowleys are sympathetic to that (and I imagine they’ll want a big clear out in the summer to prepare for a L2 promotion bid next season anyway) then we might just get lucky & keep him until the end of the season. Be a big loss if he does go back.

To regain our momentum after all the PP it’s a must win for me. We should have got something down there & need to put that right. Same team as in the first post I reckon. Eastleigh will be reeling after seeing the MUFC tie snatched away from them & then throwing it away (twice) last night at Boreham Wood-plus it’s a long old journey up here for a team who played Weds night.

On you know what, the temperatures & weather largely favourable between now & Saturday afternoon so whilst the pitch will obvs be heavy, I can’t see any doubts about it being on.

Oh and if we get a pen please let Newby or Linney take it.

After the controversial PP last Saturday at Southend we will have to make sure we have our house in order for Eastleigh this Saturday. They will quite rightly want a firm steer by Friday afternoon as assume they will be overnighting. Not that much rain forecast between now & then but those pictures from yesterday were brutal so I hope it’s dried out a bit today. Looking ahead those likely 3 home games in 7 days in Feb vs Dorking/Rochdale/Wealdstone are a big concern.

Not sure how we got from a newly laid pitch which cost hundreds of thousands 2 years ago to this but needs sorting properly in the summer. Parky must be very unimpressed.

A Greater Manchester ‘derby’ in front of the TV cameras then & a chance to put right one of our worst displays of the season at Spotland. Which I’m sure Parky will be reminding the players of.

Assume no major changes from the squad at Chesterfield, wonder if James Jones & Donowa are any nearer fitness but other than that possibly same starting XI. Maybe Amaluzor for Mooney the one you might debate. And, of course, if the weekend off has given Ross the chance to regain full fitness or whether Gould will be back in. Fingers crossed.

Rochdale have a reasonable away record with 5 wins, albeit all against bottom half sides. Both sides like to play football so should make for a good game, though the rain forecast all of tomorrow daytime so will be a heavy pitch. With our strong home record I’d back us every time though so I reckon a 3-1 home win. Crowd intriguing with iffy weather & it being on the telly. I reckon a shade below 2k with about 500 of them.

What I find odd is that their home game on Tuesday gone vs Wealdstone was PP because of a frozen pitch & I can’t imagine since then the temperatures have got significantly warmer down there, so surely there was always a strong doubt re tomorrow. Especially if you read their forum with a large part of the pitch under a shadow from one of the stands. So not to say a word all day today then slip that out at 7pm tonight what they must have known early this morning is a poor do.

I guarantee if this was the other way round we’d have tons of Southend fans all over our Twitter calling us tinpot bar stewards. Anyway, we live in hope it may still be on but if not at least we’ll be as fresh as Rochdale for the big TV local derby on Tuesday night.

The third time now by my maths that the senior football club in Nuneaton has gone bust since ooh the late 80s. I don’t think they should bother setting up another one.

Yeah, last two league games we’ve gone toe to toe with two of the top three so no big changes required. Amaluzor was excellent in the home game vs Sarfend so one to consider certainly. Be a really tough game with their large home support & ownership situation now gradually resolved so they’ll be buoyant. Dackers no doubt extra motivated after his loan spell here too even though he just faded away really after a good start. Though they’ll be saying the same about Mooney of course.

Huge trek at this time of year when everyone is skint so hopefully the usual Southern exiles can pad out our numbers. 172 at Chessy in the snow was solid on Tuesday night to be fair. I’d take a point which would set us up nicely for 2 big home games next week. Final point with this cold snap, hope their pitch is not too frozen as presume we’ll be travelling on Friday.

More to the point when is it we get our pick of this years United youth crop? Was about this time last year that Maxi & Hugill came in. Could be a big boost for the run in.

I think Parky has had his priorities set for him.

I saw the team and thought "Yep, we're obviously saving ourselves for Tuesday". This was reinforced by the walking football that was being played at times. We had our chances but didn't take them. We missed the goal several times by a fine margin but also Ethan pulled off some fine saves. The game could have gone either way before we got to penalties.

It could be that finishing third is the target. If we get one playoff game at home anything could happen. If we finish sixth or seventh I really don't fancy our chances.

If we finish in the top 3 both Barnet & Bromley’s form will have to collapse which is unlikely. A more realistic aim should be 4th/5th which at least means a home PO preliminary tie against 6th or 7th before the away semi final down in London.

My first game was the 6-0 (!) win against Dagenham in May 1988, the last game of the 87-88 season. I subsequently became a regular at home games by 89-90, so many of my formative memories date from the glorious 90-91 season. Hopefully this season will give us as many wonderful memories as that season did-but Witt the addition of promotion or a Wembley trip at the end.

Not seen this mentioned anywhere else other than this one account on Twitter, so would take with a pinch of salt. If he’s not in the squad tomorrow at Kiddy then maybe.
