Altrincham FC First Team / Mansfield Town Entry
« on: October 21, 2009, 07:39:15 PM »
Hi gang

Not sure if I may have missed an earlier thread, but do we have to prebook tickets for the Mansfield game, or can they be purchased on arrival at the ground.

I am already booked on the coach with our Alex but not sure about getting into the ground. Can the club or someone from MTFC advise me. 1 x adult and 1 x under 16 in the away end.

Thanks in advance

Thanks Phil

Highly amusing and very succinctly put if I may say so.

That was a great season, it would be superb to see Paul Showler again, my all-time favourite Alty player.

I remember a three car pileup while we were waiting for a police escort into Darlington for an FA cup game. Also remember somebody letting off a fire extinguisher at Rhyl, after our game had been cancelled at Bangor around 81-82 I think. I think the perpetrater had an older brother and lived somewhere near Manchester Airport side of Hale in the country.

Also remember Elsie Tanner off Coronation Street taking a centre kick to start off a charity game which I'm sure involved Altrincham but for some reason may have been played at Sale Rugby Club, mid 60's I think. I'm sure she fell slightly and somebody snogged her. This one is vague though and may not be entirely accurate.

Remember Stamford Hall, my brother-in-law played there with a band called the Sidewalkers, supporting the Hollies very early in their career. Remember the listening booths in White and Swales. I remember almost drowning in the pool next door, I had only just learned to swim and dived in at the deep end in error. My feet did not touch the bottom as I was only 10 at the time, some other kid rescued me for which I am eternally grateful.

By the way, anybody tried buying a non-chart CD recently, or a CD single in Altrincham. The only shop I now like is the music shop Dawsons.

By the way, all school uniform shops are horrendously expensive, we are a captive audience, think Tesco should be allowed to sell school uniforms also, but then again schools would not get such a big kickback; its all about ripoff Britain. I say that as a patriotic fellow as well.

My only complaint about the referee yesterday was that he did not clamp down on MTFC's fouling from the start. I think I had already counted 7 or 8 before the major incident with Clee/Senior. Some of them looked really bad, especially Denhams. However, there was no excuse for the sendings off in all honesty, we just rose to the bait of Mansfields players cynical play.

We did well yesterday however despite this to pull a goal back and almost get something out the the game. I think we could have won that game with the 11 players yesterday despite going a goal down.

Nevertheless I am still very proud of the players yesterday for not giving up and throwing in the towel.

Have to admit the only time I heard it was when Anthony Danylyk had the ball in a scoring position again outside the box.

That shout was an automatic reaction to what happened in the first couple of minutes. I'm glad Anthony did that. It will do his confidence good for who I think is a good player, not had his chances due to competition for places this season but I like the guy. He has shown himself to be accurate on occasions, that was a great shot. Keeper had no chance to stop that.

Keep up the good work Anthony and fight for your place.

Football is an unpredictable game, and the young keeper learned a very hard lesson yesterday.

Never celebrate with a wind up against the home fans because it can come back and bite your ass. He was unfortunate that he had left his towel in the netting as he had to walk back face to face with the fans, when it was all over.

Justice done, but why could that not have happened to that Stafford/Macc keeper - Ryan somebody? Help me here!!

Talk about what goes round, comes round

It was committed by the same player who yelled F Off on one occassion, when the fans behind the goal claimed an earlier penalty.

One of those occasions for a player when it suddenly goes quiet at the wrong time

Hi gang

First of all let me congratulate the team and management for a great result today. I saw one or two queries about the penalty, plus heard several people say why was it given as we walked out. Suspect one or two may not be sure, unless you were behind the goal, or behind Chris Senior. I was right behind the goal and had a clear view of the incident. First, for those fans unsure and also the Gateshead players, it was a stonewall penalty and the keeper was not the culprit. I thought the culprit was the red-headed centreback, no 6 I think. As Chris Senior went for the 50/50 ball with the keeper, his heel was clipped by the player as he went down with the keeper to try and keep the ball in play. I have to say it was pretty sneaky incident and was only viewable to the most eagle eyed ref. He did damn well to spot that as it happened so quickly, but as soon as he blew and pointed to the spot I knew exactly where he was coming from. It all happened so fast but that was a fabulous decision, and also the right one. To be honest I am not being biased here but that referee did not get much wrong on the night, but that was a great decision. It would have been easy to play a goal kick or corner or whatever it would have been, but to give the penalty at that stage in the game was brave, but he got it spot on.

Gatesheads players and fans can slag me off all they like but I believe they missed what I saw from my angle. Some other fans behind Chris Senior or to the left of the goal from the terracing may also have seen it.

Any body else wish to verify what I think I saw?

Who cares really, its about time WE had some luck

Sorry gang, my fault, I meant 0-0.

Cant understand how that happened cos the 0 is miles away from the 1 near the top of my keyboard, and I dont use the right sided numbers.

Anyway were still dammed good

To be honest, I really enjoyed last nights game and even though I am always optimistic I was quite impressed for the following reasons:-

1) Massive injury problems with 8 out, yet we still pull a draw against a team sitting third
2) Loan players who looked ok last night and not out of place
3) No time to adapt for loan players yet still comfortable on ball
4) Chris Denhams run of form
5) Some neat passing moves especially in tight play with little space
6) Agreed with fans re Aaron, like us to sign him, showed promise for first game
7) Matched Tamworth in every department, both sides knocked the ball about well and thought game itself was entertaining despite 1-1 draw
8) Full available squad would have beaten Tamworth
9) Not conceded for 4 games now, despite staffing problems on the pitch
10) Money coming in from Premier League

There are many reasons to be positive there, any more anybody?

Cheers to all and thanks to team/management for a highly enjoyable game with funny banter between home/away fans - always enjoyed that.

By the way, can we take away the TV stanchion near the sterile area!! Setanta have gone now
