Sorry but I took slight offence to that heading.
Graham has been attached to this club in one way of another for over 35 years now. He has given the club his all over these years and knows non-league football inside out. He works within a tight budget and brings in the best players he can afford within this budget. This is despite a recent poor run of results which, under the circumstances of player availaibility, was not entirely unexpected. I do feel the team are a very good side this season but we have lost some strong players at a critical time fixture wise. Once we have all players back we will get stronger. In the meantime the best we can do as supporters is to get behind the team, and encourage the players we do have available, rather than criticising the manager and his players. How long will it be before the manager decides enough is enough and slings his hook.
There have been times when I have wanted to walk away from Junior Football Management. I am currently Assistant Manager of Altrincham FC Juniors under 15's B team for whom my son Alex plays in goal. In Junior management you are only answerable to parents and players, probrably 30-40 people in total. Grahams role is magnified a lot more than that. The role of manager is a fabulous one if things are going right, but very lonely and isolated when things are not going well. I still remember parents criticising me when we lost a couple of games on the bounce and calling me to account. This was also the season when we went on to win the league cup, when I was at Unicorn. I remember the nights of reduced sleep worrying, and asking questions of myself. At times I wanted to just walk away from it and enjoy a better quality of life without the unecessary agro, but then I would have let the kids down.
Why is Graham getting so much criticism, I have always supported Graham who has been at the club longer than I have been a supporter. Try and stand yourself in any football management role, whether junior or senior and see for yourself what it can be like. Then magnify it 30-fold in Grahams case. Graham is honest, hardworking, extremely knowledgable of non league and is vital to our club. Lets remember that he also has a deep rooted love of the club just like we do.
Cheers Graham, keep up the good work! Remember we are still on-target for a mid table or above finish, and we know we have not seen the best of this team yet! And please ignore the title of these posts, it is disrespectful and ignorant.
