Title: Playoffs Confirmed
Post by: GolfRoader on April 13, 2024, 07:46:36 PM
What an unbelievable achievement and what a season we're having. We keep hitting new levels with Phil and Neil. All to play for now!

Let's get a win next week!
Then it's probably Halifax at home - chance to put a few records straight!
Beat them and it's Bromley away for a chance at Wembley! 😉

I've said it before, but it's still true... So glad and proud to be an Alty fan!
Thanks to all at the Club, not least Parky and Sorvs, you've made an old man very happy 😊 😊

Yep, same here Saughall! Never thought I'd see this in my lifetime.

Next season will be my 50th supporting Alty, what a way to celebrate if we make EFL2 - fingers crossed and everything else.

Fantastic board, managment and team too. Suggest we have a fan/managment/board meeting in the not too distant future.

Despite all their troubles, I'd expect Halifax to win one of their remaining games (either Ebbsfleet or Oldham at home) so Southend shouldn't be an issue.

Anyone got the dates?
Tuesday & Weds (23/24th) for eliminator playoff,  Weekend of 27th for the semi final, the following Sunday 5th May for the Promotion final.

Assuming we get a home eliminator, who would we prefer to visit in the semi finals - Barnet or Bromley?

The pacing of finishing 4th is slightly nicer, as it's four days rest into the first game and then another four - but that doesn't answer your question...

Purely from a spectator's point of view, playing on the Saturday v Barnet would be better logistically for travel - but that doesn't answer your question either!

Obviously there's the pitch differences - the lads are used to playing on an artificial surface and I really don't like Barnet's ground.

So Bromley it is (I think)?!

Cross that bridge when (if) we get there ! athough if pushed i would slightly favour Bromley . Both very tough asks though.

Yes lads. I think I'd rather have Bromley too. Purely from the point of view that I think we'd have more of a shot at it ... and all bets are off in the final - it's who turns up on the day.

PS. I believe we need to finish 4th to have a shot at Bromley in the semi.
(unless Barnet collapse)

Indeed, far too giddy, unless I've misunderstood things we haven't got a home eliminator confirmed yet, let alone won it! :o

Since our return to this level, whilst our last outing at Bromley might have felt like a victory at the end, our record against them is pretty grim!

We haven't beaten them in eight attempts, and it's probably for the best we won't play them at our place - where we've been defeated on every occasion.

Compare that to Barnet, where our record is reasonable - and includes probably the best victory of the lot (last season's 4-2) and the worst (this season's 0-3):

Barnet (Away): W2 D1 L1 F7 A7 Pts7/12
Barnet (Total): W3 D2 L3 F13 A15 Pts11/24

Bromley (Away): W0 D3 L1 F4 A6 Pts3/12
Bromley (Total): W0 D3 L5 F6 A12 Pts6/24

As mentioned previously though, all bets are off once we get to this stage - the stage almost seems set for us to finally get one over on Bromley.

We won 3-1 at Bromley in a televised match in 2015 - though that was on grass.

Chances are will need to beat both Bromley and Barnet, one at their place and one at Wembley. Home advantage possibly bigger for Bromley so go to Barnet and take Bromley in the final?

Gateshead 2 up with half an hour gone.

Chesterfield haven’t given a toss since the league was won. Pity really

Barnet's home record is stronger than Bromley's, so I suspect it wouldn't make much difference either way.

I can't decide which one I'd prefer myself.

I was hoping that Chesterfield would find their mojo back tonight as Barnet away is definitely harder than Bromley (should we make it to the semis). Never mind, maybe desperate Aldershot will take a point from the Heed.

Wednesday Gateshead v Aldershot.
If we beat Oxford and Gateshead don't beat Aldershot we are 4th.

If Halifax pick up 3 points tonight then that is the play off places confirmed, just the final order to be resolved. To keep momentum we need to win on Saturday and then see where that places us. Home tie next Tuesday/Wednesday would be awesome. If we make the semi's then either of Barnet/Bromley will be tough, but we know that. Seems we have had better results at Barnet in the past, so maybe that's the route and on grass. Either way lets get past Saturday first and see whom we have at home. One game at a time now. COYR

My hunch tells me that Barnet is more of a classic York (A) from last time - they'll have the pressure of being playoff favourites, but our lads will know they can turn them over on the day as they've done it before.

For that reason it's not the end of the world for Gateshead to scrape wins in their games this week - but I reckon they'll drop points somewhere, if not versus Shots then certainly very likely versus Bromley.

Unless Bromley win in midweek, they'll probably be putting out a very weak team at the weekend as they'll be confirmed as finishing third and will be keeping their powder dry for the play off semi.

I was actually thinking about that myself - given they'd have 8 days to recover, surely the best policy for them would be to stick with their best XI?

Something we thankfully won't have to worry about - we have the perfect opportunity to take huge momentum into the playoffs on Saturday and I'm sure the lads will take it.

If Bromley fail to collect at least a point from this evening's visit to Oxford City, there is still a chance that Gateshead could finish third on goal difference.

Gateshead host Bromley on Saturday.

Bromley and Barnet both in with a chance of 2nd still after last night. Gateshead v Bromley should be a tasty game.

Apart from a bit of pride, there's no difference in finishing 2nd or 3rd is there, in terms of play off advantage?

Other than having the runnersup spot, very little, could make a difference to who they play though.

Agreed, but I think momentum at this stage is important. Keep that winning habit if you can.

2nd gets to play the winner of 5th V 6th. 3rd gets to play the winner of 4th V 7th. If everything goes to form then 2nd gets an easier semi final but it could go the other way and 3rd gets to play the lowest ranked side in the semis.
