Altrincham FC First Team / Re: SC**thorpe Match Thead

Very disappointing tonight. I'm as optimistic as you can get but that display worried me.

We need a proper leader on the pitch - Toby's a good player but I don't see him as someone who rallies and organises the lads when things aren't going right for us.

Positives from tonight - Ollie looked solid in goal and Kaja made a real difference when he came on.

What's with Barrows' socks? Look like they're full of holes, are they his "lucky" ones that he doesn't want to throw away?  ;D

The lack of transparency at the club of late (on various issues) has been alarming and at present it feels as if the only time that they see fit to engage with supporters is when they are seeking to extract more money from them.

I expected a slow start as its a new team and I am concerned with how its going so far but I'm finding the club communication (or lack of) more disconcerting tbh at the moment. This is definitely different from last season, for whatever reason.

Can't really complain about losing 2-1 on the balance of play . They are a big , physical , fast and skilful outfit who will be thereabouts at the end of the season yet we matched them for periods of the game and they never totally outplayed us .   Thought Toby was head and shoulders our best player . We still need a goalscorer , we still miss Marriott and Kossy and the keeper situation needs sorting asap .
Kingy was at the game yesterday , wonder who he supported ?

How we could use a John King in the centre of the park, such a commanding and motivating presence and a better player than he was given credit for too.  How long would the ref allow him to stay on the pitch though given that the modern game has lost a lot of its contact sport element?

I've found the extra link on the bottom of the Radio Alty page works better than the main page link. Had no problems at all tonight

Still miss the chat option we had with Mixlr though

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Opening day Match Thread.

I started go to Alty again after being a fairly irregular watcher in the 70s/80s for the 94/95 season and got hooked. Handy for home, not expensive to get in, lots of local away games, lots midweek too, relaxed atmosphere, stand where you want, i could go on. That's all gone now. I doubt I'll go to an away game this season and at £19 I don't think I'll go to every home game, especially if the team go on a losing run. I want entertainment, and if I ain't getting entertained I'm not paying for torture. I barely went in the recent relegation seasons, but I went to a lot in the Evostik and following NLN seasons. Why? Because it was fun, entertaining, relaxed (stand where you want  (pretty much)), bring your own sandwiches, lots of away games not too far away, and not too much to get in.

So in a nutshell I miss the non-league experience you got following Alty up to quite recently. That's definitely gone now - segregation, stewards every six feet, no leaning on the fence, security scans outside the ground.

I stopped going to the speedway at Belle Vue when getting in , parking and buying a programme started costing over twenty quid, and i wasn't the only one judging by the paltry attendances they get. I don't buy a programme at Alty or use the catering, but it doesn't seem that many years ago that paying £20 at Luton seemed a helluva a lot of money to watch a football match. £19 at Alty now seems a lot, especially when you look at the state of the place you're paying to go in to.

I suppose quite a few people prefer football on your terms.
If you want to be supporting a successful professional team in this league, this is what it costs. In fact most sides in the league charge more.
The experience of years ago is nostalgic and appealing but it's a different world that we're striving to move on from to something better in lots of ways. The infrestructure hasn't caught up yet but it will do.
If you want a cheap winning team with crowds in the low hundreds, taking your own butties, you really should be watching Trafford.

I'd go and watch Warrington but the fence is too low and made my back ache.

Glad its not just me then. Plus the ground is cold by September 😄

I always thought that certain posters on here edited the word SC**thorpe like a curse word, due to an old FA cup grudge against them  ;D ;D

No grudge there. We knocked em out - Ian Botham and all!

TWICE ! 1974-5 and 1980-81, on both occasions after drawing at the Old Show Ground (which was a horrible stadium !).

We therefore have an all -time undefeated record to defend this season.

And go on to play a top division Merseyside team in the cup both times.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Improving the website
« on: July 27, 2022, 10:23:05 AM »
There isn't much wrong with the official site as these things go in the modern age, just as others say, its not the first place you'd go for up to date news. I'm sure that's something the club will be conscious of - JL's site has always led the way.

I appreciate that with the immediacy of news via Twitter, Facebook etc., it can be difficult to make a website feel as up to date.

Altrincham FC First Team / Club Q&A session
« on: July 25, 2022, 12:02:25 PM »
This was mentioned as forthcoming by Lawrence Looney a couple of weeks back and, reading some of the comments about stewarding, fanzone etc. I think it is something that we need to have soon. While the club has generally kept us well informed with most aspects on the playing side, it feels like we've lost a little bit of the club/supporters/Alty family connection at the moment. Bill has been very quiet over the summer (and he has every right to a break, he does a phenomenal amount of work for the club) so it would be nice to have one of his less formal Q&A sessions. I'm sure the club have something planned and we should ensure we take full advantage of it to get our questions answered and any concerns fielded.

Just wondering that myself. I'd like the Mixlr service to also be available as I miss the chat option it provides during games so listeners can discuss the game in progress

Striker could be Emmanuel Dieseruvwe who scored goals for Grimsby in the play-offs was a loanee from Tranmere who aren't renewing his contract. Based in the North West.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Dibble ????
« on: June 06, 2022, 06:11:21 PM »
I would venture that his Dad, Andy Dibble, was one of the most erratic and unreliable keepers I have seen in an Altrincham shirt. If memory serves after he left us he got some form of acid burns from diving on dodgy pitch markings while playing for a Welsh League club. He actually returned to league football with Wrexham for a while after that I think. He came to us with a solid reputation but I don't think his spell at Moss Lane was the finest of his career.
