I'm an old fashioned chap and like the heraldic crest as a nod to the town of Altrincham and it's historic past.
It might not be catchy, but it is classy!
Still remain concerned that we only have Joey Jones and Marriott for CM.
Vital position and we have no quality in reserve. If Jones doesn't perform we will be in trouble in that area.
Osborne has been given the number six shirt.
Is that a significant gesture or are shirt numbers meaningless with regards to management intent?
If it's not meaningless it's a bit worrying isn't it?
Brockbank had 3 last year so I wouldn't read too much into it.
I suspect he was asked to give the number 10 shirt to Cricky and was told he could have the pick of a few other numbers if he did so.
I suppose people always start with the part-time teams by default - Dorking, Maidenhead, Wealdstone - but I'm sure they'll have the capacity to surprise like usual.
Rochdale will be OK - they just got rid of Jim Bentley far too late, their end-of-season form was OK, manager knows the team well, and most of them have stayed (Toby wasn't playing for most of that period either). Harvey Gilmour from Halifax is a tidy signing too.
Solihull seem to be in a mess, but apart from that most of the contenders still seem to be southern - the above plus maybe Aldershot - possibly Dagenham to slip back?
Ebbsfleet should probably do well, and Fylde will probably be OK - not sure about Kidderminster and Oxford.
Halifax still have plenty of quality in their ranks, so I'm surprised to see them included in so many people's suggestions.
Its always hard to predict who will do what at this time of year.
My candidates most likely to be down there would be;
Oxford, Kiddy, Maidenhead, Rochdale
Not sure about Fylde or Ebbsfleet or Southend.
If we dont gel quickly I could see us flirting as well, but expect Wealdstone, Dorking and Hartlepool to do better than some think.
We will know more in a few weeks !
Compared to most, I think I'm still on the cautiously optimistic side.
It's all well and good signing specific players for specific jobs... but they still have to be quite good at football. United signed Weghorst to fulfil a specific job, and it just turned out he was pretty rubbish in general.
At this level you can't avoid having one or two complete flops, and I'm afraid this coming season will be no different.
The last time we recruited at volume, en masse... it was Neil Young at the start of THAT season. It might be a ridiculous comparison point, but I remember many praising him getting business done early and knowing his targets.
