Altrincham FC First Team / Re: 23/24 Preview on ALTYTV.

I watched it and thought that it was aimed at potential investors in the club. It did seem a little odd for a publicly available video.

Many thanks, Gary. It's appreciated.

Having said that, is it time to look at starting a new forum on a more reliable platform? There have been a few outages over recent months, and we can't keep relying on Gary to fix it. My knowledge of how to set up a football forum is nil, but perhaps someone else in the group has some expertise?

From what I saw of the play-off highlights for Chesterfield vs Bromley, Colclough was outstanding.

Thanks, Wilmslow Alty. Let's give that a go....

Altrincham FC First Team / Moss Lane on canvas
« on: May 09, 2023, 07:07:37 AM »
I'm unable to visit Moss Lane in person anymore, due to being on the other side of the world, so I thought the next best thing was to bring the J. Davidson Stadium to me.

I just received a lovely canvas painting of the stadium, which I've put on the wall. I bought it from this chap, who seems to be supremely talented: https://www.jkmartwork.com/altrincham-fc-240-c.asp

I was hoping to post a picture of it hanging on my lounge wall, but I can't work out how to insert an image! Trust me, it looks great.

Altrincham FC First Team / Goal of the Season
« on: April 20, 2023, 07:15:25 AM »
I've just watched the twenty goals in the semi-final of Goal of the Season over on Alty TV (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zOp_vuJdqro)

The question is, where do I vote? Just by typing a comment on that YouTube page? I can't see anything on either the club website or John Laidlar's page about where to vote - I think in previous seasons there has been a dedicated web page set up for voting.

I don’t think there will ever be anyone who has as big an impact on the club. When we redevelop the stadium, we must name one of the new stands in his honour.

Many memories have been shared in this thread, and as someone who started watching Alty in 1979, I too remember many of them. But my main memory is when we got relegated from the Conference for the first time. The fans invaded the pitch to show their support for the team, and John King was in tears. The club and the fans meant that much to him.

Sounds like the Daleks have invaded on Radio Alty.

1. Barry Howard. Although he was past his best when he left us.
2. Paul Showler. What a loss he was - absolutely gutted when he left.
3. Ryan Colclough. I never saw him play "live", only the Alty TV highlights. But an absolute class act.

Does anyone know if you have to watch live, or can you stream a full match replay? I ask because Saturday games will kick-off at 1am for me, so I won't be watching live. But I  would love to be able to sit down for a replay on Sunday morning.

All pretty tinpot by Stockport County, who I assume will be fined for this.

I'm still angry that the Cheshire FA fined us for playing a reserve side against Cammell Laird back in 1979/80. From memory, we were due to play Leyton Orient a day later in an FA Cup 3rd-round replay - the historians on this site will be able to confirm the details.

Hale Barnes United were THE team when I was a lad. One of my junior school mates, Alan Richardson played for them.

JD, was Alan Richardson a builder in Hale Barns? Or more accurately, was his Dad a builder?

I played for Melrose Wanderers and we would lose every game heavily - unless we played Partington, when we usually won. Melrose Wanderers were based at Halecroft Park.

The press release says "It has taken us a while to get there, but this is only the start of works on that side of the ground."

It will be interesting to see what plans we have for the Popular side, and associated timelines. Will we rebuild the Popular Side in the style of the ground redevelopment plans that were released a couple of years ago?

Stalybridge Celtic and that Danny McGoona miss.

Worst for me was the 1-5 home defeat to Mossley in the FA Trophy in 1980. In my mind we were invisible at the time so to lose by that scoreline... To be fair, Mossley weren't a bad outfit either.

That was the first Alty defeat that I witnessed. Also Alex Stepney's final game.

Cult’s “When We Were Kings” series of articles were wonderful reading, chronicling a time when there was no Alty TV, with the heroic deeds of that season recorded only in the memories of supporters and local press articles. 79/80 was my first season at Moss Lane, and I couldn’t have chosen a better one to start my lifelong Alty association.

I have no doubt that publishing those articles in a book with a print run of 1,000 copies would be a success.
