Title: Bromley Play Off Semi-Final Match Thread
Post by: Alty Dave on April 23, 2024, 04:29:58 PM
Monumental game towards the end of a magnificent season. Personally not keen on plastic pitches hopefully the lads do the business on it.

Hopefully no new injuries or illness. My team would be

               Ross

Banks, Cooper    Baines  E Jones

       Osbourne     Hancox

Amaluzor      CCC      Newby

             Linney

Subs, Angus, Mooney, Roscoe, Kosylo, Gould

Looking forward to the match. Time for Alty to shine. COYR

Agree with that selection... and love the implication of 'towards the end of the season' 😉

That would be my starting 11.

Going to be a very tough game.

Bromley 2-2 Alty (AET)
Win 4-2 on pens

Knockout game.

Get at them from the off, hopefully we don’t set up to soak up pressure, in my opinion that would back fire.

Let them worry about us. Get Amaluzor running at them on a quick pitch.

It is going to be a battle and we can do this. Everyone on it.

Agreed on the team, it's great going into these games knowing what our undoubted strongest XI available is.

It definitely suits us being at their place, where they'll come out a bit more rather than let us have the ball and sit in defensive blocks.

The game at their place was a great contest and I expect no different on Sunday - we'll have the psychological advantage of the bye and they'll be gutted about it.

Olomola caused us all sorts of problems that day, so hopefully we can keep him a bit quieter this time.

Please not penalties. I'll need carrying back to the coach.😜

Very interesting shout - we don't get away with it in a knockout game.

It was at Bromley that Ethan Ross was injured last time.

Harrogate were the most recent team to tear up a plastic pitch to ensure promotion.

Let's hope we're still saying that next season.

Standing tickets are now sold out and I'm sure the seated tickets will follow very shortly.

I can remember when we struggled to get 700 fans for a home game!

Let's get the job done.

They sold out there allocation, so immaterial. But we got the minimum allocation I guess around 15%. If they hadn't sold out then at there discretion they could increase our allowance if the Police and other bodies agree I assume.

Yeah, if this next two weeks go any way other than the dream ending I'm going to cope with this as well.

Until then, we're the best team in the competition and should fear no one. I just want the game to be here so we can win it.

However, lady luck has been on our side lately and I wouldn't be a bit surprised if this continued on Sunday.

We've got a real chance to do it here. Whether we do it or not is another thing. It's not going to be for the want of trying I'm sure.
As Parky has already said, if we bring our best game we're a match for anyone.

My big worry of Sunday's game is dealing with Michael Cheek, his unpredictable movement in and around the box makes him difficult to mark. The pitch does not worry me so much, my biggest concern is us freezing and our very occasional mislaying of passes during a game.

However, we have recently hit a good spell of form, especially in defence and I think that will count for us tomorrow. We can score goals from anywhere in our forward line and I feel that because of our past history when trying to get promoted this will see us through. I predict a hard 2-1 win to Alty, but we we will all have to be on our guard; and play 100pc to our best ability to achieve that.

Believe me, no team deserve this more than our club, and I hope I can spend what will be my 50th season wacthing them in EFL2. I also thik our fands will play a major part in this, and I really do think it will be a great game. Looking forward to watching it but wish I could be there.

Proud of the team and the season we’ve had.  Should not be forgotten.  Talk about a game of 2 halves.  We were comfortably the better team first half and they obviously got a rocket at HT and we were just second best after that.  Onwards to next season.  Can we keep CCC and this team together?  That is the question.   All in all, a great season.

The loss of Marriott told in the end. Recruiting quality that can fight for those places where we don’t have cover and potentially take those places will be crucial. As well as keeping the clear first XI

But we are a playoff club now. No-one to fear in the league next year. If we can keep the team together they’ve shown anything is possible. And they are a young team. The glass may not be overflowing but it’s way more than half full!

Nothing to add really, just that our achilles heel coming out for the second half came back with a vengance and brutal teams like Bromley punish you for it.

The lads have done us all proud this season - only our second as a full-time professional club, and I'm sure we'll re-invest and consolidate our position next year.

Forza Alty.

After an encouraging opening 45 minutes, our hopes effectively evaporated in that sorrowful nine-minute implosion early in that second half.

Alas, some woeful defending at a couple of set pieces completely changed the complexion of the game and allowed Bromley to gain momentum (mind you, that heinous pitch should be credited with an assist for that second goal).

The excellent third goal was a killer, and although we did clip their crossbar from a couple of free kicks, you couldn't really envisage a way back for us.

Disappointed, naturally, but not entirely surprised by that outcome. Bromley outmuscle you, It's just what they do to great effect.

Nonetheless, it's been a superb and entertaining season during which we have exceeded most people's expectations.

I think that the key objective on the playing front now is to increase the depth of talent within the squad. I didn't really feel that our bench today contained anyone who could turn the tide back in our favour.

The club has achieved gargantuan progress in recent seasons, both on and off the pitch, and we can only hope that things continue to move in the right direction.

Splendid support and noise from the Alty supporters this afternoon, too.

Three reasons why I now hope that Bromley go on to defeat Solihull in next Sunday's Play-Off Final:

(i) it would mean at least one less expedition down to the south east next season;

(ii) we can actually manage to win football matches against Solihull;

(iii) we won't have to play on Bromley's godawful artificial pitch again. (In fact, if they do achieve promotion and then have to dig up the wretched thing, I may even volunteer to take a spade down to Kent and help them out).

Spot on. I don’t think we’ve quite got the nous as a Conference play off side just yet. Bromley on their pitch was always going to be a tall order-they are a horrible side to play against. Getting them & Boreham Wood out of the division Id be pleased with.

We have a strong spine of the team & all relatively young so well placed for next season. I don’t think we need a whole lot in. A fit Crankshaw, the chance to play Marriot & Wilson together intrigues & some back up for Linney who I’m sure will score more next year. I’d also like to hear what the Boards current off the field thinking is (ground, pitch, etc). Next season we need to push on again to become one of those sides who are always there or thereabouts.

Some brilliant posts there. My Stockport-supporting cousin messaged me saying that he was glad we didn't get promoted as we wouldn't be ready for L2 yet and I think he's probably right. I've watched quite a lot of L2 football this season and I think whoever goes up will really struggle.

A lot of excellent posts on here, and I can't disagree with any of them.
One of the characteristics of Phil Parkinson's and Neil Tolson's tenure is that they seem to learn as they go on. That's not a bad thing - quite the contrary - and while we may occasionally take a step back, that is usually followed by three steps forward, so I can't see us following Boreham Wood or Dartford who were in the playoffs in 2023 then relegated in 2o24.

Phil and Neil will now have more idea of wbat is needed, or what nous if you like, to achieve success in the playoffs, and I am sure that will be addressed.

It has been a great season and we have been competing at the highest level we have for nearly thirty years.

I suppose one of the first things we're taught in Sunday League is not to let the ball bounce - even more so on a pitch like that. Lewis Baines seems superhuman sometimes, but it was almost as if he took his cape off between 45-60 and that affected everyone else too. But the poor lad can't do it all on his own.

At the top end of the pitch, stating the bleeding obvious but you just need those Newby / Conn-Clarke set pieces to hit the target really. I think deep down we all started to think it might not be our day when we couldn't quite make the most of the backpass freekick.

As others have stated, available players will be knocking on the door to join us now, and IF we accept a bid for any of our players (thankfully I think the vast majority are now under contract) that'll give us the extra 10% to offer on wages which will potentially make a crucial difference if used across 2-3 different starting positions.

I don't begrudge the management team having a rest, but I'm sure they'll be itching to get going.

See you all in pre-season :)

"Next season the first two go up automatically"

I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere. What about playoffs?

others have said it all really, but must say overall pleased with our progress this season. Shame we didn't play midweek and get momentum playing Halifax. Pitch was awful as expected. We were sat down. That was awful experience and they wont get away with that in the efl. No segregation at all. Would never sit down there again if we have to go back. To take 700 fans 230 miles away was immense though. On to next season, will be interesting to see who goes and who joins us.

If this was the result of the NL Board bending over and asking how deep with regards to cup replays, I can honestly accept that. Oh and that god forsaken u21 comp they suggested.

I don't think it happens this close season though.

Back to the result yesterday... Our team are heroes, the result was wank and we're at least capable of going again even without CCC.

Always wanted to see us win the Trophy as well tbf.

I heard coach three was struggling to get home. Anyone know what time they made it home?

How did he sneak back in..?!

Well spotted. In my defence, it was a late night post after a long journey, although not as long as Neil Tolson's would have been from Wisconsin, nor people who had used the coaches  which went the scenic route from Bromley.
