Current Confirmed Squad
« on: July 05, 2007, 08:54:08 AM »

The squad is looking better and better day by day,it really is, we are still short of width, and hopefully Pottsy will re-sign after working on his fitness and maybe even another winger or left/right sided midfielder,I always feel Bob Lawton is wasted in right midfield, and should be in the middle of the park, and after a couple of years of being "top heavy" in the midfield department, we now only have four at the time of writing!!! The one thing that really stares back at you is the need for a decent left back, a guy with a bit of pace in that postion could see us take a step towrds being a really decent side, him using the left hand birth interlinking wth warren peyton in left midfield would be great to see.So for me we still need (funds allowing) A left back,a winger/wideman, and possibly a target man upfront should we need to change it on occasion. Well done graham for your signings to date!

GOALKEEPERS

Sounds like classic chrissy adams!

I always thought chrissy was a good left back! He gave the side great shape and held the defensive line. he wasnt the most creative but he got rid of the ball and i never saw many goas you could say were down to him. Personally I think we could have done with him last season, even if only for 20 games or so. I guess fitness was the issue there.

We need a winger for each flank and a decent left back. That would basically give us cover for all positions, although im not sure if peyton would be able to play in 2 positions at once!

I'd love to see pottsy back, I thought he would never be the same aftewr losing his fitness, but it seems he's turned it round, and he's desperate for his alty shirt. im delighted for him!

Warren Peyton is a wonderful left back. I'm sure if he's asked to play their again, he won't let us down. With Pottsy + one left winger (Senior?) we could be okay. Still very early for this sort of thing, but
Coburn
Lane
Peyton
Tinson
Munroe
Owen
Sedgemore
Lawton
Senior???
Little
ONeil

Subs
Scott
Rose
Potts???
Thornley
Acton

Squad
McFadden
Aspinall

Owen worries me to be honest. Some games he is a god, some games is he nowhere. A little to inconsistent for my likeing now. However with players like Sedgemore to take some of the responsibiliies it may help Val in his old age to be more consistent.

Thought Val showed Bushell up last season to be honest. Always tracking back and battling

We definitely need a specialist left full-back and at least one other striker.

O'Neill is not a natural goalscorer, so we would be too reliant on Colin Little yet again.

McFadden is unproven at this level and yet to score a Conference goal.

Thornley has been a good servant to the club but is well past his best (and absent for several matches anyhow).

Thornley is best on left wing

But cannot last for 90 minutes.

Put sentimentality aside....we need to bolster our attack.

I agree that we need to bolster our attack, but that is the most difficult area of the team to improve when you're sturuggling for cash. I'm sure Graham is trying hard to bring in a new striker or two, but don;t be surprised if we cannot get anyone in who is better than what we already have.

In my view there is one thing that we are lacking above all else - and that is pace.

When you think of the top teams last year they all had strong quick forwards which added another dimension to their play.  I know with part time status, fitness will always be an issue but I would love to sign a really quick forward.

Rod Thornley - Too be honest towards the latter end of the season I thought he was superb. A superb and deserved goal at St Albans summed up his commitment and attitude to the cause.

I can't see how he did anything wrong in any of the games ? Played out of position but always battled 100% and always left the pitch knackered due to all the running about.

I suspect that this was more the result of him not being fully fit!

As I stated earlier, he's contributed a huge amount to this football club....but I just don't see him as a viable alternative forward at this level next season.
