Timperley in the FA Cup - a glorious decade!
« on: June 04, 2013, 09:35:52 AM »

Following up on the earlier mails about Alty playing Timperley in the FA Cup in the 1930's I thought I'd look to see how often they competed and how they did.

As far as I can ascertain, they only competed in the 1930's and their full record is below:

1931-32 Preliminary Round   Timperley 3 Glossop 2;
 First Qualifying Round    Marine 5 Timperley 0
1932-33 Preliminary Round   Timperley 2 Peasley Cross Athletic 11
1933-34 Preliminary Round   Timperley 0 Seaforth Albion 6
1934-35 Preliminary Round Altrincham 8 Timperley 2
1935 -36 Preliminary RoundHyde 8   Timperley 3
1936-37 Preliminary Round   Congleton Town 6 Timperley 1
1937-38 Preliminary Round Timperley 5 Colwyn Bay 0;
First Qualifying Round    Sandbach Ramblers 2 Timperley 0
1938-39 Preliminary Round   Macclesfield Town 7 Timperley 1

Manager Hank Sinclair was fired immediately after the game, apparently.

Even though I am a Timperley lad I only played cricket for them. However, for the statistically minded, I was born after the 1938 - 1939 season. Born on June 8th 1939 & then not long after war was declared.

I think George is hinting at getting a lot of birthday prezzies! ;)

Were these two events in any way connected ?
