That game was a farce from start to finish. Ref was one of the worst I've seen with several obvious decisions wrong, mostly in their favour but a couple our way too. Their red for retaliation was not the first time they had overreacted but the yellow for simon for the original foul was nonsense. Most of us seemed to expect us to get the freekick.
The penalty appeal was 50/50 for me but those stood nearer certainly felt it was a pen. How we didn't get the one in the second half was beyond me, even from the other end of the pitch we could see the triangle they had made of the Alty shirt and he gave nothing. Every time they fell over in those conditions he gave something.
Josh's red was a yellow at worst. Yes his feet left the floor but by the time he'd slid 6 feet to where their player was he had no momentum left and made contact with his shin not his studs, their guy over reacted and the ref made a howler - definitely worth an appeal.
The pitch in our left back area second half was not playable and I wasn't surprised they only attacked down that side once all half - if there had been more play in that area the ref would have had to have considered calling it off.
As I said above Luca's red gave the ref no choice and was in the words of Brian Moore ' Dull' from Luca.
Players did well given the shocking start and conditions and didn't give up.
