Very, very sad news.
-
Thats so sad. Norman was a superb fella. Up until a few years ago he was on every coach no matter what the distance.
He was a regular financial contributor to the various supporters groups as well, a very generous man. Always smiling, one of those people who never appeared to be annoyed or down.
Maybe one of the biggest tributes to Norman was the flats on either side of his house on Wellington Road, as you come up to Stockport Road.
Developers bought the houses either side to make apartments but Norman refused to budge. I heard they offered him the full market value of his house plus one of the best apartments fitted out to his specification and he still said "no thanks"
In the end they were forced to build two smaller blocks on either side of him.
RIP Norman, a true Gent and damn good Alty fan.
-
Indeed,I feel quite sad. Always had a lot of time for Norman, and always said hello to you even if he didn't know who you were. Remember seeing him in one of my first games, and was so transfixed with his sideburns I missed a goal (I was 8 at the time!!)
RIP Norman
-
RIP Norman condolences to all your family. all round nice person had time for all Alty fans young and old.
-
Again, sad news. Ecky has summed him up to a tee so there isn't a lot more to add other than to again pass on our thoughts to the Brown family. It always feels like you've lost a little bit of the 'Alty family' as well.
-
RIP Norman...a great guy and a real Alty fan and Gent
I'd occasionally see him in our mutual Doctors Surgery and he was always a very enthusiastic supporter. In recent seasons he'd sometimes arrive after kick off when all the Programmes had been sold but I, for one, and I know of plenty others, would always be happy to launch a search for one for him.
Really Sad News, my thoughts are with his family
-
RIP Norman condolences to all your family. all round nice person had time for all Alty fans young and old.
Agreed he used to say hello to me and Teagn another massive loss for the club rip
-
I had the privilege of standing with Norman for a number of seasons until very recently. A lovely guy, and fascinating company. Saw him a few weeks ago being helped to his place and thought he looked very frail - very sad that he's gone.
-
RIP Norman
-
Very sad news indeed,rip Norman.
-
another familiar face goes.....very sad.
-
I had the honour of standing with Norm for the last couple of seasons on the poplular side and folks would look out for him making his trip around the ground.
Often there would be calls of "Who's your new girlfriend" whenever my wife or some other kind lady would escort him to his position under the camera gantry..
Norman, you were one of lifes true gentlemen. It was a great pleasure to know you for a small period of time, and you will be sadly missed by the Sant family.
Condolences to your family and RIP my friend.
A very sad day..
Ray & Jill Sant.

What a character & above all else a true English Gentleman. Norman used to attend all the meetings held by S.A.F.E. (THE FIRST EDITION). For many years afterwards he kept asking me if I was still counting the pennies for the club. Looking back over the last year, Moss Lane has lost too many characters & great fans. God Bless Norman & all the others who have passed away.
-
When i read the name on the website I dodnt know who it was, but as soon as i saw the picture i knew exactly who it was. Always saw him at the games and he'd always say hi as he passed behind the goal and was always ready to give you a smile. As everybody else has said, a true gentleman, and a great loss.
Very sad news indeed. Condolences to the family.
Rest in Peace Norman, a True gentleman and true Altrincham Supporter. You will be missed.

Mister Heslop makes a pertinent point here when he comments on the loss of a some true characters at Moss Lane in recent times.
I do feel that we are losing the opportunity to compile an oral history of Alty supporters' memories when I read that the likes of Norman Brown are no longer with us, as characters like him must have had a wealth of Alty related stories and memories to share.
Perhaps Flynny could launch a series of interviews and record some of these anecdotes for posterity?
-
As has been said, a true Gentleman, and one of Alty's most consistant supporters. Condolances go to his family at this very sad time. RIP Norman we will miss your smiling face at Moss Lane.
-
Didn't know him personally, but he'd always give a smile and let on to you. Seemed a really nice bloke, and despite his frailty in recent months you knew he'd be at the ground. Clearly a legend of a guy.
Condolences to friends and family.
-
Condolensces to his family and friends.
A gentleman I only knew at a distance, but it looks like he will be very fondly remembered.
-
One of the many true gents I had the privilage to come across at Alty.
You will be sadly missed.
My thoughts are wife your wife & family at this sad time.
-
Must say i must have known him,but dont remember him.Its always sad when we hear of someone passing on.At least he will have the likes of Jackie to keep him company.
Condolansces to all his family.

I recognised Normans photo form the main site.
Being an Alty fan has many advantages, one of those being that you are part of a small group that has a bond. A loss of any person is a loss to their family first and foremost. Losing fans would be a tiny blip to a MUFC, Aresnal or Chelsea, but to clubs our size we know the faces...it makes a difference surely.

I've just seen the announcement of Norman's death in the Messenger. As usual, the funeral arrangements are included. There are no flowers, by request, instead people may, should they wish, make donations to Altrincham FC. A proper Alty fan, as this goes to prove
-
Regarding the above post, if anyone wishes to make a donation in Norman's memory and cannot get down to the club you can always send a paypal donation via the usual link:
http://www.freewebs.com/ideas4alty/bucket.htm
-
Sorry folk, to clarify, The request is for any donations to be sent via the Funeral Directors, Gresty's at Manchester Road, Timperley. I know it may not matter to some which route donations take but, I recall how important it was to us to know how much had been donated to Wythenshawe Hospital in memory of my Mum
-
Sorry, I didn't realise that before.

this would be read of the year! if we could do a through the years through the eyes of fans i'm sure it would sell a fortune some fans have some real tales to tell. we all know the fans game at weymouth etc. but an alternative view of matches funny tales and the such like would be a brilliant read!
-
Sorry, I didn't realise that before.
My fault for not saying it in the first place
-
This gesture just shows that some people literally do bleed the red and white of Altrincham.
It would be amazing for people like Norman, Skipper and all the other great fans/people of this club who have sadly passed away recently if we could live the dream of another FA Trophy victory or as Densmore put in in tonights MEN 'a promotion push' and Football League.
-
I have just telephoned Gresty's to confirm my donation etc
For those of you wish to know. Normans funeral is at the Crematorium on Wed 20 Jan at 2-30PM
What a lovely gesture by Norman and his family..
