this is strange this is the first I have seen of this it's not on the official site either
Normally there is a selection process open to all has this stopped ?
If this is a closed selection pool it would have been nice to tell people
-
Not in the true tradition, if that is the case .
-
Think they have open training for the supporters team every Monday night, it's become an all year round thing now rather than a one off game.
-
Apparently the ales have been reduced to £2 per pint which for the majority of thhem is a great price.
The game kicks off at 7pm and the bar will be open throughout.

This is indeed the case and open training sessions have been advertised on here, on the official club website, on facebook and it was also mentioned at the open meet the management forum. If anybody wants to play for the supporters team we train every monday evening from 8-9 at Timperley Sports Club, and this continues all year round. We are always happy for people to come and train with us and almost every week we have new faces which is great to see.
Ecky, I hope you dont mind this shameless plugging, but I just thought I'd give some background and let everyone know that it isn't actually a closed pool and as you say, it has gone now to an all year round thing as opposed to a one-off.
-
See you all there ;)
-
I'm assuming Dawn is the masseuse....... ;D ;D

Whats the level of fitness/skill required for Monday evenings, and when you say training, is it training to play against other teams or a friendly kick around, and how much is it?
-
Bit naughty IMO. Many people can't commit to training weekly but are quite happy to pay their fee and take to the hallowed turf once a year and play against the staff like in previous years. Seems like it's all been done in secret this year in a jobs for the boys sort of way.
-
Makes sense to me that a supporters team would represent the supporters. How do you decide who from the supporters team plays and who doesn't?
If there was enough interest from other people then I am sure a second game could be arranged at some stage.
-
Beaker, very little. We play for an hour but if you have seen my physique then you will understand why I say very little. Obviously we play a 90 minute match most saturdays and a lot of people have the fitness to get around the pitch relatively competently for that amount of time. Others play bit parts to suit. It is mainly a group of lads who support the club, want to play football and have a laugh at the same time. We don't like losing but winning is not the be all and end all. Monday nights are mainly kickabouts, normally about 9-a-side to get used to the way people play, but we do do some drills as well. £3 for pitch hire. :)
Joe, the same person who organised the supporters team last year has organised it this year too. I agree with what Ecky says in that if the interest is there I'm sure another game could be sorted. Also, having people that go to games home and away and also come to training every week who want to play in this missing out is also incredibly harsh. Not everybody is going to be happy all the time, and paying £25 for a couple of minutes on the pitch isn't really fair on anyone.
-
See you all there ;)
That would be telling lol x
-
if this has been done on the sly, i hope you pummelled by the staff

So who would the second game be against, another staff/ different team? I'm a bit peeved that you can't trial for the squad and get selected on merit as in the past. I think it's great that we have a supporter's team, yet it seems a bit of a done deal to me. I work shifts and Mons off are pretty rare for me. Is there anyone who is part of Fri squad, not a Mon night regular?
-
oh feck we are falling out about this now ????
we are becoming very divided
-
The answer is no. However we have a regular 18 on a Monday night and have 10-12 "floaters" who can't commit to every week but come down whenever they can and have played league games for us. A squad of 30 would be nowhere near feasible anyway and thats before everybody else wants to play. There are no guarentees either way as to whether people that have commented on here would get into the squad or not and not everybody is going to be happy all of the time. I understand from previous years it is a nightmare to organise anyway as everybody wants to play and someone has to be a bringer of bad jews at some point.
Also, people are picked on merit. It's not just a mates club.
-
bad jews ????? feckin hell is Hitler in charge
-
It's great that we have a regular supporters team but this yearly event has always been aimed at both regular and non regular footballers who are willing to pay a fee to play on the hallowed turf. It just seems a bit unfair that the official supporters team have now taken it into their own hands and basically said bollocks to anyone else, our team are playing the staff this year.
-
Forgive me for commenting on something that doesn't really effect me, but isn't the point of the staff v supporters game that its an annual fundraiser for the club? Those interesting in playing chuck £30 or whatever into a pot for the chance to play on the hallowed turf?
That's nothing against the lads who turn up week in week out on a Saturday morning for the regular supporters team (who im sure shell out a fair bit in petrol, pitch fees, etc), but it does strike me as a bit odd that a potential community hall fundraiser has been dismissed.
-
Everyone who is playing is paying. We haven't said balls to anyone, we were asked so we went a head with it.

Without advertising it as in previous years so basically saying balls to anyone else.
-
Whatever mate, if you want to play that badly have my spot.
-
To be honest Joe / Wayne this is my fault, I was the one who thought it would be best to use the supporters team. I know that there are about 4-5 lads that come training each week for that one reason or another wont make the squad on friday. I know there is a charity match coming up soon in memory of Keith and if anyone is interested in aupporting this please pm me and I will pass your details on to someone involved.
Apologies once again.

If you're all paying like previous years then I retract my previous post and take no issue. As long as the moneys rolling in that's fine.

Last years organiser asked the supporters team for it this year You can't claim the supporters team have said balls to everyone we're doing our thing. Everybody is paying to play and people are playing on merit. As I said, not everyone is always going to be happy and other people aren't as well, whether youre a regular footballer or not.
-
jacobs when is the game in memory of keith then?
-
Not 100% but I know its in the next few weeks, this will defo be advertised.
Apologies once again for causing aggro
Jacobs out! :'( :'(

Not wanting to sound like a treater but i would like to help in this event . X
-
My Jacobs are already out. I like a few crackers and a nice bit of cheese this time of night.
-
No worries Tom,thanks for clearing that up in a sensible manner rather than trying to get a bit arsey like De Gea has whoever he is. Thanks also for your explanations Mike. If I am free any Monday nights am I allowed to just turn up for training then? It's not very often Im available but Id like to get involved when I am.
-
Perhaps we can have a supporter's game against those who don't support the team as often as the other supporters do? Or,we have a game against the winners of Fri game against the supporters who aren't as good as the supporters team are?
-
Four teams. Two semi finals and a final. All played on the same day.
Job Done.
-
A team of exiles!
-
You could have a supporters legends team with joe, wayne, fraser (spelt wrong maybe), s newall (udays brother), beez, wazinho, big noel and bill co-op
-
I fancy 1 of the supporters teams to make the final!
-

Hope that's sorted then. Certainly no old mates act going on as I don't think half the supporters team knew each other at the start of the season so it's been a genuine team and there is old and young in it. I don't know half of them despite the fact they come regular which is pleasing in a way.
Perhaps we could have a vets team? ;D

Are there many Alty fans treat animals?

Plenty of Macc fans mistreat their animals.

Who are you calling old?!
-
Thanks for the detail Jacobs it's appreciated
I was not happy originally but I am satisfied with the reasons etc
In a way I think it was an opportunity missed for the club to raise even more funds for the community hall as we could potentially have had the true supporters team and another who can't comit to weekly weekend football due to work and family commitments but still want to do there bit for the club
Worth thinking about next year if enough interest
-
we should start up AFC supporters of Alty in protest......championship football in 5 years!!!
that'll show them!
