Apologies for the loss of transmission, yesterday, for the first half of the second half.
Normally, we use my mobile WiFi device to connect to the internet, however during the last few games, I have found it quicker to connect using my iPhone hotspot, connected from my laptop USB port to my iPhone via a lightning connector & this worked perfectly from 2.30-4.00pm.
Just before the start of the second half, I needed to use my phone & disconnected the lightning conector as Alex Sarwar was doing second half commentary, after I had done the first half. I believe that this was the schoolboy error that caused the loss of the internet connection & can only offer my apologies for this.
I realised that we weren't broadcasting & tried to rectify the situation, failing miserably.I then called Peter Scotson, who has very kindly offered to provide technical support for broadcasting on Radio Alty. It took about a further 10 minutes to resolve the situation.
I fully appreciate that this was very frustrating for listeners, however we are using completely different equipment to the previous Mixlr service & I am still outside my comfort zone with it.
We are using the pre-season fixtures as a learning phase for Radio Robins on Radio Alty, with an objective for us to be properly up & running for our first National League game of the season on August 6th.
Yesterday's issues were caused by my individual error, but providing a live outside broadcast will always throw up a few challenges, even for the professionals (BBC Radio Five & BBC Radio Manchester). There will always be some issues, hopefully we can minimise these from August 6th onwards.
Despite yesrtrdays issues, I am very confident that broadcasting on Radio Alty will offer a better listening experience than Mixlr, but if it doesn't, we still have that option to fall back on.
