Altrincham FC First Team / Full-time and proud?
« on: April 29, 2018, 11:25:24 AM »

Phil continued, "Next season will 100% be about consolidation, weighing up where we need to improve, and then the following season we will have a good go at it. There's a lot of full-time teams in the National League North. We need to weigh up the direction we're going as a football club".

Reading between the lines here, it looks like Parkinson might be pushing for a move to full-time football. This would obviously require a boost in revenue and 'investment', but it's interesting to see someone at the club hint towards going full-time.

If our aim is to get back into the Conference then going full-time would be a logical step. Although I do have some sympathy for the argument that it's better to have the best part-timers over the worst full-timers.

Altrincham FC First Team / Share Issue - Potential Buyer

From the club WhatsApp:

There has been interest, as expected, in acquiring 51% of the football club. A non-disclosure agreement (NDA) has been signed to allow these detailed discussions to continue. Further updates will be released when possible.

...who would it be?

No one is allowed to say Nicky Clee.

Altrincham FC First Team / Colin Little and Marcus Rashford
« on: May 19, 2016, 07:41:24 PM »
Seems that it was Colin Little who taught Marcus Rashford how to finish:

Quote
Former Crewe Alex striker and prolific non-league goalscorer Colin Little was given the job of showing Rashford how to be a centre forward.

"He needed to work specifically with Colin on his finishing, his movement, receiving the ball chest forward rather than with his back to goal," said McGuinness. "He would learn how to get on the shoulder of the last man, quickly swing his hips round and run sideways to open up the space for a pass. Lots of little details.

"We did that lots and lots. We directed a lot of team practice on it. We targeted him because he deserved it. We thought he could be a first-team player.

Still the best Alty player I've ever seen.

Is it possible to stop people changing their names?

I find it hard to keep track of who I do and don't like.

Altrincham FC First Team / Next Five League Games Part Two
« on: December 10, 2014, 10:43:33 AM »
Following my disastrous prediction of no points in my last thread I thought we could give it another go...

DOVER ATHLETIC
Chester
NUNEATON TOWN
CHESTER
Eastleigh

On paper this looks so much easier than our last five league fixtures, but we all know how we perform against the less good teams.

If we can get eight or nine points from these fixtures I think we will have gone a long way towards staying up.

Chester are very good at home so dropping points there wouldn't be a disgrace, but I think we can certainly get something from them at Moss Lane. Dover's away record is patchy so a win should be possible. Nuneaton only have one point away from home all season so this will probably be the game we drop a massive bollock in. Eastleigh haven't lost at home all season, so another tough one.

I reckon six or seven points would be about par, anything more and we're doing very well.

Altrincham FC First Team / Attendances
« on: December 08, 2014, 12:39:26 PM »
Just looking at our home attendances and we're doing rather well. Both compared to our previous attendances and other clubs: http://www.footballwebpages.co.uk/confprem/attendances

With home games to come including Wrexham, Chester and Halifax it could be possible that we could get our highest average league attendance since 1990-91: http://www.altrinchamfc.co.uk/attendances.htm

Altrincham FC First Team / Will the bar...

...have a name?

Or will we just refer to it as the bar? Or the community centre (which sounds like a bar in Dalston)?

Altrincham FC First Team / The Next Five Fixtures
« on: November 13, 2014, 02:25:12 PM »
The next five fixtures we've got are horrible.

H   GRIMSBY TOWN
A   Wrexham
H   KIDDERMINSTER HARRIERS
A      Woking
A   Forest Green Rovers

It would hardly be a surprise to see us losing all five of them, especially the way we are currently playing (and our confidence levels).

However, even if we were playing well getting five or six points from these fixtures would be a decent return.

What then do we need to get from the next five games for people to remain confident in Sinnott's ability to keep us up?

Altrincham FC First Team / At the moment, who are our biggest rivals?
« on: September 05, 2013, 10:35:54 PM »
Ok, let's say that Macc are still our number one rival for historical/romantic reasons even though we've not played each other for years.

Who comes in in second place?

There aren't many obvious candidates. I'm not even sure which Vics club is which so it's pretty hard to have a rivalry.

Runcorn are still nowhere to be seen. The Tameside clubs all compete with each other more than they do with us and it's just difficult to get too worked up about any of them.

Southport are a decent shout even though they're hardly local, a club quite similar to us and we've had some cracking games in the past. There will always be history with Barrow but they're just too far away for them to be massive rivals.

I can actually see FCUM becoming one of our biggest rivals over the next few years.

So, who are out top three rivals at the minute?

Gone for a double of Telford and Harrogate at 3.6.

I think Harrogate look very generous at evens against a shocking Stockport.

Is this the worst paragraph ever written?

Quote
For once not having to play for our survival in the Blue Square North has seen a poor run of form for City over these past few games. The injuries in the squad don't help and we're struggling to get over the finish line as badly as those marathon runners were in Boston the night before.

I think it might be.
