Meeting "Alty Players"
« on: June 19, 2014, 12:22:12 PM »

How often does it happen that you meet someone who claims to play for Alty. Always makes me laugh to have someone claiming it, and when questioned about it, the response is invariably "yeah, I play for the reserves..." They never have an adequate response for "we don't have a reserve team." And about 1 in 5 people on the streets seem to have a mate who plays for us. "what's his name then?"   "errr, Sam O'Neil. He plays for the reserves!"

I once worked with a middle aged, short, stocky fella who claimed to have played for Alty.....

Turned out it was Ian Morris.

I have people from numerous hr departments ringing me up asking if I've heard of such and such as it says on their cv that they play/have played for altrincham.

I remember years ago meeting two scottish boys who claimed to be Eddie and Frank Gray. The fact they were only in their teens and on a caravan holiday with their mum probably indicated a fib.
