Why is it stupid? Wally pretty much got us promotion on his own, I think the 9 shirt definately deserves to be retired. Maybe in a few years bring it back, perhaps next year but this year I fully support this kind suggestion from the board.

It's a team, even a squad, game.

As the team got us promoted why aren't we 'retiring' nos 1-11?  Would the 9 be 'retired' if Wally was still with us?  No. Because to 'honour' one player in this way fails to recognise the input from all the other players and could destabilise team cohesion. How does his leaving make such a difference that we 'retire' a number. It achieves nothing, so why do it? It's a bit of nonsense.

If that's what we've done then it's a done deal and I can live with it...

I think it's very promising that the number 9 (and the number 20) shirts are still available. It's the clearest hint yet that something's afoot behind the scenes!
Having said that, it may not come off ... but I'm keeping everything crossed!
