Main rivals in my eyes are Northwich because in my formative years we rarely played macc because we were in a higher league
istorical rivals are macc just because its macc.  never really thought of Runcorn as a derby
witton a bit of a love in as again we rarely play them, CSC cup final incident was just a bit of over exuberence !!!
 personally hate all things kettering
FCUM have potential to become our natural derby

What about Chester/Chester City?

I dont't think we played them enough times to build the required levels of emotion. Same as Wrexham.

I'd have said Droylsden until they got relegated and for nonsense forest green.  Concerted effort by Brackley to make it them. Can't we have 1. Macc, 2. Macc, 3.Macc

Macc and Vics (1874 version)

One thing that builds rivalry is the other clubs fans having good vocal support. It's not always the case at our level but I always remember coming back from Macc and vics games with my head buzzing from the noise.

I wouldnt say it was the same for Witton, Runcorn and Stalybridge.

That pot will ALWAYS be green and white. FCUM do me in, hate the whole concept. But it's contempt, and could never be rivalry in its true sense.

Stalybridge Celtic.

particularly after the other season when they brought the Yorkshire Ripper and chanted we'll never play you again.

I'm looking forward to renewing our rivalry in the boxing day / new years head to head.

Don't understand the thread - rivals don't change when you don't play

Macclesfield and Northwich

Agree 100% and in that order as well.

Next time we meet Macc in a proper game it will be a completely new experience for a high proportion of our fans. A lot of our younger fans have simply never witnessed that kind of atmosphere at Alty and it is very unique and special. Whether it's for points or a place in cup, above all else it's about pride and it's part of what defines us as fans.

I cannot wait to renew that rivalry.

Let's see...

"We hate Northwhich Victoria" (no longer exist in any recongnisable form. Breakaway 1874 Northwich play in NWCL)
"We hate Macclesfield too" (haven't played in four years and how long for this world?)
"We hate Witton..." (currently in the NPL and never that big a rival)
"...and Runcorn" (no longer exist, replaced by the Linnets but play in NWCL)
"But Alty we love you" (something we can agree on)

I thought that this song stretched back to the 1970's and the words included 'We hate Wigan and Runcorn'?
Wigan were our big rivals in the 1960's and 1970's ability wise, and Northwich were geographically the closest, with Macc playing in a league below us.
Maybe JTH can confirm.

macc ,hopefully be playing them next season, can see us disliking fcum if we play them enough , stockport are too big to be rivals and the tamseide clubs are too small
I hope that this does not happen next season as I want us up as Champions and Macc relegated. ;D

I'm glad someone else remembers it as 'Wigan and Runcorn' - I was beginning to doubt my memory (not my sanity - I know that's gone!).

Really? Obviously I agree with you on the champions bit but as someone not old enough to experience the Cheshire derby I'd be a bit gutted if we went up and Macc got relegated tbh. The only derby games I've seen are the few that we had with Northwich a couple of seasons ago. They were great days so to have 2 games a season like that again (or even more intense matches from what I've read on here and heard from older fans) would be fab.
