HALIFAX 47 -27
MACC
GUISELEY 46 -24
TORQUAY
ALTY 44 -22

KIDDERMINSTER 35 - RELEGATED
WELLING 34 - RELEGATED

Another reason for tomorrow's game being a must-win is the fact that, after Saturday, all the teams below us play games before we play again, against Macc. Halifax play once, Borehamwood/Torquay twice and Welling/Kiddy three times. So the table could look very different come March 5th. We really need three points tomorrow to give us a bit of a cushion.
-
Welling finish with KIDDERMINSTER, Chester, us and BOREHAMWOOD
If they can keep in touch, they stand a chance
-
Updated, doesn't make pleasant reading really
-
The Alty run in is not to bad
-
Which fixtures are you confident of us winning? I can only see Welling.

Capable of winning more than one game although too may draws could see relegation.

Which is precisely why 4 points out of the last 15 should be ringing alarm bells.
-
Based on the average number of points per game each team has gained so far this season, prior to yesterday's game we had the second easiest run in (only Port have a better run in by this measure). Frustratingly, the teams below and around us also have slightly better run ins than the average.
Those figures came from this blog, which is just an interesting little way of measuring our league by a guy attempting some stats analysis based on shots, goals and so on. Worryingly for us, as you can see in the link, for the first time this season he now predicts relegation for us, based on chance conversion in our games. Obviously stats are flawed in loads of ways, just an interesting read which is updated before and after every fixture:

Looks pretty accurate to me
-
On paper, Boreham Wood have the easiest run in for the last 6 games.
We need a couple of surprise wins desperately.
-
Looks pretty accurate to me
well Halifax will be higher than 5th bottom for a start
-

will they?
-
Yes
-
We CAN still stay up, but we need a bit of luck on the injury front. If Grif and Si are back ASAP and Tom returns to the team strong, at least we'll have a foundation upon which to build. Failing that, I think we'll be 4th from bottom.
-
Macc had a full entourage here on Saturday, askey, Steve Watson the lot. They've a home game on Saturday and a home game next Tuesday before facing us, so an ideal chance to get a good look at them and Torquay.
-
A worry for me it will probably take 50 plus points to finish 5th from bottom
-
I'd say 50, some clubs seems to be targeting a couple less, I can't see it myself
-
I've calculated (very rustically) that we'll get 44 points (worst case scenario) and that 50 will be enough to stay up.
-
Maccs current form is poorer than ours, one game at a time, starting with them. We can beat them with our strongest available 11
-
So what's our strongest eleven then ? .

Updated with maximum points achievable added
-
All bottom sides now added, Kidderminster have easiest run in on paper but can only get to 60 points with a maximum haul
-
Welling have now gone 16 league games since a win.
-
Yes they looked that bad when we drew with them
-
Updated with latest results
-
I think Welling will finish bottom.
We need our share of luck on the injury front.
We also need to beat the teams around us - something we have failed to do the last 2 seasons.
a win over Macc would really boost our confidence.

This is our big problem we take a point at games that on paper we should lose then we get a point or nothing in games we should be winning
-
Problem is Wayne were not doing that as much this season
-
We are 10 points less than we were at this stage last season. ???

20/20

20/20 , 20 less goals and 20 less points maybe ::)
-
Updated with tonight's results, Saturday another key date, Torquay will probably make it four wins on the bounce as they entertain Kidderminster, not a favourable set of fixtures at all at this end of the table
Alty v Macc
Borehamwood v Barrow
Chester v Bromley
Guiseley v Wrexham
Southport v Halifax
Torquay v Kidderminster
Welling v Cheltenham
-
We have 7 home games and 6 away games - all are winnable. It's not like we have to play any of the top teams. We just need a little luck on the injury front (which we are surely due) and another loan midfielder would probably help - it's in our own hands, starting with Macc...
-
Updated.
-
Updated, Saturday significant fixtures
Barrow v Alty
Bromley v Guiseley
Wrexham v Borehamwood
Aldershot v Torquay
Southport v Welling
Eastleigh v Chester
Nantwich v Halifax in trophy
-
Updated, Tuesday's key fixtures
Guiseley v Grimsby
Torquay v Halifax
-
Which is significant to us purely in the sense I suspect both Torquay and Boreham will escape the drop, meaning Guiseley or Southport will join us in Conference North next season.
-
Kiddy and Welling gone
Us and BW in terrible form
Halifax and Torquay at risk if they don't get a few points and by some miracle either us or BW do
I can't see two of the above teams catching anyone else
-
Looks like we will have to win our home games against Aldershot and Welling and also our 3 away games against teams in the bottom 5.
We cant afford any more slip ups like at Welling.
-
To stay up Alty need to win 5 out of the last 10 games. On paper we could win 7 but on present form we could lose them all. The players are good enough to compete in this division but they need more belief in themselves and start showing they deserve to be in this league next season.
-
They probably are good enough Ian,but the club don't want it enough

Expecting between 5 and 7 wins out of 10 from the same team that has won 8 from 36 this season (and 11 from its last 50), is surely something of a stretch.
-
we won't need that many.
We need 2 more points from 10 games than B Wood get from 9 - I reckon we'll need no more than 12
We need 1 more from 10 than halifax get from 11, or the same number as Torquay get from 11 whichever is lower - 14 might do us
4 wins and a couple of draws, 4 defeats will be plenty as long as two of those wins are against Torquay and Halifax - fail to get three points in those games and we're stuffed
-
I agree with the last two words of the above post.

Yes, I'd say consecutive seasons of progress on the pitch counts as "wonderful work". He won us promotion and comfortably kept us in the conference national last season. I know winding people up on here is your calling in life, but I genuinely don't get the animosity you and some others on here have towards Lee Sinnott throughout his tenure? Very strange.

Thank you, for some common sense😀

I think the phrase here is, "be careful what you wish for". Those that derided Lee Sinnott, unfairly imo, may long for his return in 2 or 12 months time.

What about one win since the middle of November, is that wonderful work as well?
At least LS knew it wasn't good enough and for that he has my respect

Updated with tonight's results, Saturday's key fixtures
Borehamwood v Macclesfield
Guiseley v Dover
Lincoln v Kidderminster
Torquay v Southport
Welling v Gateshead
Halifax v Nantwich (4-2 trophy)

There is not a cat in hells chance that 12 more points will keep us up, not a cat in hells chance. 15 may just do it - that's either 4 (probably home) wins and a few streaky draws, or 5 wins, starting with Saturday of course...if anyone cares.

We all CARE....but our faith is in tatters.

I meant the club Romeo. I think it's obvious from all the posts in the last few weeks, that despite our differences, we as fans really care for this great club. Much of what has been said on here has been born from frustration, but we certainly all care.

maybe cut back on playing walking football with Phil Taylor and get out there and find some players, everyone else is!!!

I think survival hopes depend on winning on Saturday and at Fax the following Saturday as we definitely need a platform for hope of getting the 5 wins needed.

To get back on track with what I personally had thought possible points-wise we need to win on Saturday & then take at least four points over the Easter weekend. Do that and the April task won't look quite as formidable.
-
It would probably leave us needing 8 more points probably 9 mike so 3 more wins really?
I'd snap you hand of for 7 out of the next 9 points though!!

Whilst, given the current run of things, I'd happily take 6 points as long as the loss isn't to Halifax I'd say the time for depending on others results has long since passed.

borehamwoods last 6 games are all against bottom 8 teams
-
Imperative we put distance between them and ourselves next weekend when they are playing Cheltenham and Dover
-
Unless Aldershot get something out of their next two games (Forest Green away, Braintree home) they should be added to this thread. They're only 9 points above the trapdoor, and in the remaining matches they have to play more of the teams fighting for survival. They looked a very poor side to me.

They did look poor but are on 46 points already , a win and a draw sees them up to 50 which should do it?

Reading their forum it doesn't seem like their fans can't imagine them getting anything for the end of the season.

Travelling 200 miles to watch a team like that (bear in mind the 8-2 was against 16th placed Chester - not by any stretch of the imagination one of the top guns in the league) you gotta admire those travelling fans for their dedication. Although based on the video of Josh's goal, it may be that a proportion of those fans travel just to scream abuse at their team - if thats your thing then travelling with the 'shots is probably quite enjoyable these days :)

Well, admire them apart from the 4 or 5 'fans' who tried to pick a fight with a bunch of kids on Moss Lane opposite the [Brown Dunne and Grey] family stand after the game. One of them was so hard that he threw a half-eaten pie at said kids.

Probably just trying to make the point that rich Southerners can afford to buy a pie and only eat half.

Not as rich as you think.
At that point in the proceedings he probably only paid a pound for it.

Yep, then also lined up together across the road outside the away end to get a reaction from the Aldershot supporters. They all went very quiet once actually confronted.

Some Shots fans travelled up on the same train as us and were amongst about a dozen who were arguing with some of our local idiots who were also throwing stones across the railway line at Altrincham station on the way back. For this reason we usually board the train at Hale. However for the second time in a few weeks the Police were called to Altrincham Railway Station after an Alty match. This gang of Shots fans got very drunk on the train on the way back. One was already so drunk he couldn't operate the toilet door from the inside and I had to kick it open for him (no damage done). Then the train didn't connect at Stockport. As the train got closer to Euston, the louder and drunker they got and annoyed the Police at Euston. Myself and my kids sat in a set of 4 seats with a Shots fan travelling alone who was in his 30's, very pleasant but only claimed to "know of" these lads. It was only as we approached Euston I asked this Shots fan what he did for a living and he replied "Policeman"!!!! He said he thought the lads knew what he did, but he doesn't go to matches to babysit them!
So you can see the fun we have travelling from the South!!!!!!

I bet its fun being a policeman in a town full of squaddies.
I've only been once. Seemed like an OK place with an amazing number of Gurkha curry houses

Yes, they need some of us to have a word...............they are only young lads after all and I bet I was no different when that age (chased through Woolworths by 30-40 Leeds fans in the late 70s - we never thought they would follow us and it made the papers) but they don't seem to know when to give it a rest and are unable to suss out who laughs it off and who will hang around on Moss Lane...........they will also be the first to leg it when the lads from Grimsby get over the fence >:(
-
Every club has a few kids trying to wind the away fans up, it's part of the day out. It's a fairly standard feature of a trip to Woking for example. You just have to rise above it.

We've been blessed to have gone so long without that element of fans.
-
Still think it is up to us to sort it.
We don't have a fighting firm, or what you want to call it.
Banter, good humour, win or lose, pint after the game, to me that's what it's all about.
I just hope, as supporters we keep that going.
As said before in other posts, we are a friendly club.
-
I don't condone violence at football at all, but I think what these lads need is a few good slaps from some narky fans in the away end to make them realise that we won't back them up.

My worry is that,
some of our friendly family fans might be caught up with this when leaving the ground.
Never to return again.
That's why, being an old sod, stays and has a pint.
Let the away fans go home.

None of the lads on the pop side that Darren mentioned were wearing colours.

Not yet been to a game where these lads have been at, but need to be careful what we wish for. Heard people drone on and on for ages about how we need more young people at the games, and then they come and people complain, can't win. whilst it sounds like they are acting stupidly and no-one condones any sort of violence, its just part of pop culture football hooliganism is very 'in' with millennials. They'll learn eventually.

I don't know a single football club who doesn't have youngsters putting v's up at other fans

I vaguely recall enjoying our first FA Cup win over league opposition for 21 years! What's making me miserable is our failure to take our chances in the last half dozen games, which if taken would've seen us safe already.

I agree with you regarding celebrating that win over Barnsley, JTH.
However, I do recall a few of us at the time saying that the victory would be rather hollow if we were to find ourselves playing a Vanarama National North league fixture at Curzon Ashton 12 months on.
The warning signs were there back in October/November (and probably as far back as last summer in the shape of Sinnott & Tolson's poor recruitment).

Sounds odd but I think our best bet is boreham wood beating guisley as I think they will deffo beat welling last day. Meaning we need to put a few past welling and hope macc do us a favour at halifax
even then we would need Torquay to win at Guiseley as well AND for us to win at Braintree
-
agreed but if guisley beat boreham wood, boreham wood have to lose at home to welling, cant see that happening

Would a draw, not be the best result? Would leave BW on 45 and Guiseley on 47 still theoretically catchable with a four goal swing.
That way if BW lose or draw on the final day then 2 wins would go above them.
If Guiseley lose on final day, we would go above them with a 4 goal swing in the final 2 games.
I'm clutching at straws for as long as possible......!

I'd say that hoping for even one point from an away fixture against a side in the playoff places, who've already stuffed us 0-4 at home, is akin to believing in Father Christmas.

I've not even taken the time to look at who plays who, and think about different scenarios and points tallies. I'm just not arsed anymore.

Yes Eastleigh's draw at Halifax did us no favours aside from giving a point. It means now that even if Eastleigh were to win and Braintree lose this Saturday Brsintree would still be well within a shout come next week.
This is the most academic post I've ever put on here though...

I clutch at straws every week when I buy a lottery ticket, but I have no more belief in winning the lottery than I do in us staying up (oh how I want to be proved wrong).
This does all appear academic and probably the sooner the last rites are finally administered the better. This truly has been death by a thousand cuts.
It's more likely that The Pope is in fact the Antichrist and that Donald Trump is the risen saviour.

This. Assuming we beat Welling this was the most important issue. I'm positive that with Braintree nothing to play for and faced with a chance to send Guiseley down, we'd have benefited from some very charitable defending in Essex.
