Couple of decisions to make, Williams or Richman, Peers or Hulme.
Big game for us, a loss and the table could look very bad, a win and the away monkey is off the back and we're on the up.
Guiseley 1-2 Alty
-
Never win there. 1-1.
-
Guiseley 4/5
Draw 13/5
Altrincham 13/5
-
Maybe give Hulme a rest to fully recover for the FA Cup clash. Peers was full of energy when he came on.
I would start Richman again.
Play red and white and ditch the grey sh*te.
-
Is Ceesay available yet?
-
I believe he's out until early November.

I agree with giving Peers a run - we need to use our squad where we can.
I'm conscious a lot of effort went into that shirt - it looks fabulous imo, but I do genuinely believe there's something in that whole effectiveness of grey kits on the pitch.

Do we have a third kit?

Peers gives us a different option in attack - no-one would say he's a better player than Jordan but he does have more pace and gets into the box more.
I'd like us to play in red & white wherever possible!

And most definitely at Southport

The 'second kit' should in my opinion be a change kit - i.e. only for use when the red & white constitutes a colour clash (incidentally, I was always perfectly happy with the yellow & blue we wore in such circumstances years ago!).
As regards team selection, my personal preferences, assuming full fitness, would be Richman in midfield & Hulme in attack, but I will trust the management's selections whatever they may be.
It's perfectly true that we've never won a competitive match at Nethermoor - but there's always a first time ...
-
We should have won last year. We were clearly the best team and scored first only to sit back Their fans were happy to pull it back to a draw and couldn't believe it when they went ahead. We had to go all out to get the equaliser.
Hopefully Parky will remind them about that before kick off.
-
We are 18th in the league and Guiseley are in the playoff places. We need to play out strongest available 11.
-
Peers did look amazingly sharp and caused more problems for Halesowen defence but then again the Halesowen defence were knackered after kicking hell out of Jordan.....
Richman for me everytime although if the opposition doesn't press then Williams thrives....tough choices.....
Glad to clear that up :-)

Couldn't agree more. I don't think we are quite ready to throw in the towel just yet.
-
Anthony Thompson, Shaun Densmore, Andrew White, James Jones, Thomas Hannigan, Jake Moult (C), John Johnston, Sean Williams, Thomas Peers, Joshua Hancock, Ashley Hemmings.
Substitutes: Simon Richman, Jordan Hulme, Max Harrop, Toby Mullarkey, Lewis Archer.
-
No squad depth. A guiseley team with CB's playing on the wings.
Way below standards again
-
Sounded like a poor game and a poor performance matched by a poor commentary. Come on guys at least get the names of your own players right.
-
i just cut and pasted from the match day on the official website
-
We got behind them enough times to have been out of sight before the non penalty decision, but some poor thinking and even poorer delivery led to no goal from open play.
Think their goal came from a back pass that hit white allowing their man to nip in.
Delighted Hancock took the pen, much firmer strike.
I
Yes it was a poor game but when all the opposition want is to hit the big men (of which they have plenty) up top, then sit in out of possession patience is key.
We definitely need a playmaker in midfield.
-
Reports circulating that Harrop and Jones were fighting In the tunnel after the game.
If that's true are the players futures at the club in doubt??
An awful game to match an awful start to the season my patience is starting to ware thin now.
Seriously thinking of giving Southport a miss.
-
Jones to Hannigan. Hannigan to Jones. Jones to Hannigan. Hannigan to Jones. ETC ETC ETC Boring.
FFS try something different. >:(
-
Harrop was incandescent at the end. I was level with it and didn't see a penalty. Maybe the ref was the same side as me and the linesman and also didn't see anything.
I thought it was a good effort by our lads on a narrow pitch but no one seems able to score. . They didn't deserve anything but if we are going to give away soft goals at the back we've got to be able to score. Our penalty was lucky really. There defender went for the ball and got Dens. If he'd backed off our cross would probably have been another chance spurned.
We are as good as them and they are still in a playoff position.

That makes two of us ...

Here's the Guiseley perspective (plus a video of Hancock's penalty):

The last ditch penalty shout was in the "I've seen them given" category for me, largely because it was two-footed and from behind. However, the ball was won and he wasn't "out of control". Another ref, another day....
I felt Harrop should have hit it first time to be quite honest. We simply don't have enough shots on goal these days - maybe we should have brought on Lewis Archer on to see what he could do.
-
Neil Sorvel should do his famous shoot drill. We had a period of not scoring enough last season and it's same this year.

If the Halesowen gsme was anything to go by, I thought the delivery of the ball into the box was poor at times. We tended to overrun the ball and then attempt passes at the last second when there was too little space available. The corners and crosses into the box were, for the most part, predictable and easily dealt with. We've got some good players, they just need to execute better at times.

I agree re. Crosses. I don't see why when playing sides with CBs whose only ability is to head and punt the ball we cross high and overhit.
We'd be much better drilling it across the six yard box or pulling it backt to the penalty spot

Agreed - which of course is exactly how Peers' goal came about.
To be honest that's why I always liked JJ playing on the left - he's so much stronger on his right that his only real option on his left is to go low / pull back - or cut in on his right and shoot.
-
"Poor cross from Johnston" was heard too often in the commentary.
-
Crosses were overhit all game. Guiseley packed their area though. From the moment they scored they were trying to get a 1 -0 win.
-
There is a lot of love for JJ - and justifiably so - but he's not having a great season. I have a horrible feeling that Southport will just ease him out of the game next Saturday too. Ceesay has been a bad miss for us. I didn't go on Saturday but Guiseley must have been fairly confident of holding on to their early lead. I don't think our forwards are feared any more.
-
Yes JJ over hit a few crosses but he also hit three beauties across the six yard box in the first half alone which no one was any where near getting on the end of.
Ash Hemmings also put a few nice low crosses in but again no one was anywhere near them.
Dens, who was my man of the match, showed more desire to get into the box than either of our central attackers or any of our midfielders for that matter.

Second this, Dens has been class this season

Said it many a time, we are a better team with Dens in the there.
Solid defender and class at getting forward. Hopefully keep his place and get fitter and fitter.
Already by a country mile our most consistent fullback this season.
-
Densmore, Richman and Moult drive it forward. They should be first on the team sheet every time.

Good highlights, I thought we created a fair few opportunities. On that angle not sure it was a penalty at the end. Max should have hit it first time instead of waiting for the challenge.
-
It's a fantastic tackle.
-
It's a fantastic tackle.
Yes, outstanding. Particularly in the last minute to save the game. Centre back’s equivalent of a top corner screamer.
Couldn’t do it again if he tried...
