He did score a belter a few years ago in your back yard Mr Chester
One all now at Hyde with 1,141 in attendence

I was there.
I was referring to the fact that we have Hydes centre backs, while we discarded Robbie to get them!!

There has just been a peacefull sit down protest at the ground in the sterile area

We have a booking in this morning to take someone to Elland Road for Leeds v Wolves at lunchtime. I could probably put myself in position to snaffle it.
BUT....................I'd have to bring them back again, so I'd miss our match. £240 there and back............not even tempted.
The shirt is on. COME ON YOU ROBINS !

How comforting to note that our next three opponents all won away AND kept clean sheets. I feel like a kid that's spent weeks waiting for Xmas, only to find that Santa dropped the sack down the chimney and smashed all my f**king toys.
Good bit, Duncan's wonder goal. Bad bits, practically everything else.
-
Unbelievable. How much did we give the ball away!?
-
How we've come back to training in mid June and been second to every ball against a bunch of 30 odd year olds today is nothing short of scandalous. We didnt create a chance in 90 minutes. I'd give it 5 games....
-
Gutted, one of the most inept performances I have seen in many years of watching the robins, made worse by the fact that most of the players did'nt seem arsed.
I have never seen the bench/management so quiet and definately clueless, shocker when Sinnott asked Tolson who to swap Richman for.
-
I will try not to say too much till I've calmed down after that horrendous display.
In mitigation no luca and their penalty was a dive and their 3rd killer goal came from a clear handball....yet another fat unfit ref giving wrong decisions....I'm clutching for straws here.....coz the truth is we had no game plan, had our most creative player at left back again and their fat ex pros looked fitter than us.
Duncan's goal worth the admission fee alone well done dunc.
Got a horrible feeling that I was right when i thought we should get rid of lee with about 6 games to go last season and that we will give him till xmas at which time we will once again be doing the same old same old.
The guy has no plan B and when he tries to change things it turns to absolute chaos and carnage like today....it was an utterly unacceptable display not helped as I said by missing a key central defender but are we going to lose 4-1 every time a key player is missing?
-
What a load of dogs watsits.why carn.t we keep the ball?
A good crowd.most of tbem won.t be back.and who would blame them???
Play Offs your havin a laugh.

Away Harrogate Town
Away Vauxhall Motors
HOME CHESTER
HOME HISTON
Away Gainsborough Trinity
All fun at the fair!
Brackley should do ok this season after that showing....we will bounce back no worries
-
Yer not much to say on that we didnt keep the ball, the defence was all over the place, and the fowards got nothing
Im gonna reserve comments as it is early give it a few games, stay positive we will be fine we really missed havern
The ref didnt help today either, hes not there to but sighhhh he was crap!
-
Nothing to do with the ref,we were awful, simple! Was a clear pen and a deserved win for Brackley. Sinnout has ALOT of work to do!
-
Abysmal is the only word. Pre season optimism has been dwindling since our under performance at Mossley. The aim was to concede less than last year, on todays showing we haven't improved and we now lack invention going forward.. we created 3 chances today - lawries shot, Duncans excellent goal and Clees shot in the second half...
We started by passing the ball well, but as the game wore on (and it was nothing to do with chasing the match) we went more and more direct.
We desperately need a box to box central midfielder (I'm not sure Phelan fitted the bill) and a left back. Nicky Clee is a winger and Matt Doughty as much as I like him is not good enough (I hope he reads this and proves me wrong). Twice today he was out of position and we concede twice..
Lots of work to do, onwards and upwards...
-
question, did Alty wear red shorts in Jackie Swindells day?
Yes they did. The shirts were solid Red and White stripes with White neck and cuffs. Shorts plain Red. The socks were very unusual as they were white with Red and Beige at the top.
-
Cant disagree with much of what has already been written - we looked like 11 blokes who had pitched up at Stamford Park half an hour before kick off for a fkn kick about and decided to form a team. Duncan Watmore was the only shining light.
Question for the management - Why sign a left back then decide not to play him from the off and instead stick our best creative player in his position?
I was a bit concerned that the defence looked decidely dodgy without Haven, and the lack of passion displayed by the team generally
Its day one of a new season, No need to press any alarm buttons just yet, having said that I would hope we have turned things around and started to play decent by the time we travel to Gainsborough.
Cmon Lee lets not have another sh*t start like last season, These fkn trips back to Shrewsbury seem to be getting longer and longer.... ::)
-
"@DamianReeves85: Horrible performance today! Not the way u want to start season! No 1 person to blame were all in it together AS A TEAM!! #putitrighttuesday"
Well reevesy you summed it up "no body to blame in particular " as they were all poor!

That was relegation form today, seriously.Totally inept performance.
I know it was the first game of a new 42 match season, but it just seemed like that was where we left off in April.I'm afraid that the new signings: Rodgers,Leather,Lacey,Brooke and Mitchley are just not good enough. Also. Richman is a Sunday league player, at best. >:( >:( >:( >:(

I don't know. As much as I never cared for Heathcote, at least his teams were always FIT from the off. That shower today were either not fit or couldn't give a toss. Very worrying , so early on.
-
It may have been new but it definitely wasn't fresh! None of them even looked like footballers today nevermind played like one.

Things arnt that bad how can we tell who isnt good enough after one game, big over reaction, and you cant blame the strikers because the service was poor reeves also looks poor and we no he can score??????? Does that say something

Utter, utter drivel.
A complete shambles with the exception of Duncan Watmore's marvellous strike.
Brackley were sharper and fitter than us, which is inexcusable.
In particular, the 'defending' for their fourth goal was absolutely shameful.
28 games since our last clean sheet.....and counting.
Massive improvement required.
And quickly.
-
Thanks redhill,i had a sneeking feeling at the back of my mind but coming upto 60 was not to sure about the memory.
I listened on RR yesterday and after the first 10 minutes it sounded just like the old troubles were back.Though at 1-2 if the ref had given that handball it might have been a different game, and then their 4th sounded like the Alty players had completely lost interest.I am ill at the moment and i felt a lot sicker after RR had finished.

28 games ! That is one hell of a statistic
I was being tounge in cheek about GH
But i remain unconvinced over LS still
I just hope its the shock we needed to sort our act out
Totally gutted yesterday
-
On reflection and now the anger has subsided, I think the first half was an even affair with both teams cancelling each other out. Brackley had a good midfield and our centre two didn't seem to be able to create much. Apart from the goal the creativity in the alty side came from incidences where clee and lawrie would try to create space on the left wing. Lawrie for me had a poor game and his touch was poor and when clee did create it left a hole at the back. Second half we were holding our own until the second goal, then it was awful. Last 20 mins had nothing about it at all. The centre midfield need to create. Use whatmore more on the right wing. And I agree clee on the left. Brook I thought played well but doesn't look like he'd score many but will hold up play and distribute.
-
A dreadful display and one that I had to ask why do I bother?
I am not a Sinnot fan and most know that, I am neither a tolson fan so I dont go to Moss lane for them?
The footbal on display most of last year was poor and now this season has sunk to new depths already so it is not that.
Yep! its the pint and chat in the Bar afterwards with friends, which is pretty good reason for going.
So I wont be handing my season ticket back, for that reason alone.
Yesterday was close though!
GH for Manager and not Graham Heathcote, not a fan of his style either!
-
in the last half hour your defense just seemed tired and brackleys front men were just walking all over them, plus then when you got the ball back you couldnt string more than a few passes together before you gave the ball back to us...
i thought that the first half was more you than us, we got a debatable penalty in the only 5/10 minute spell where we got the ball and applied pressure. we were lucky to go into the break with the score at 1-1....
anyway its only one game guys don't all go reaching for the noose after one loss..
-
It's becoming a common theme. Everybody apart from LS can see that Nicky ain't no left back. Also, Lawrie is completely wasted on the left wing, cutting in predictably into his right foot time and time again.
I know it's early, but I'm also a but worried that some of our new players won't be able to cut it at this level. We desperately need a box to box midfielder before Tuesday, as well as Luca back, or I fear we're in for another tonking - what a mess.
Duncan was the only player who could hold his head high yesterday - shame on the rest of them.
-
The footbal on display most of last year was poor and now this season has sunk to new depths already so it is not that.
Really?! Our defence was woeful, but we played some great stuff last year!
-
That was relegation form today, seriously.
!!!!!!! Surely that has to be a record. 1 game into the season and it's relegation. FFS.
-
if VOD suggests it relegation form then its relegation form!
I would tend to agree, if we played like that every week we would surely be relegated
-

Indeed
Most of last season we were creating 25-30 chances...
I can think of about 2 we had...

I think you sum it up well, your team is well organised and should do well on the basis of that performance. Top 4 I would say

Wouldn't perhaps go THAT far, but certainly decent. Reminded me of Bishops Stortford down here last season, and they did a comprehensive job on us too.

i dont think that far up.. im not changing my opinion of mid-table. yes yesterday has been a massive boost to our confidence and we will see how that affects our next few games. if we can get a decent result against hinkley on tuesday then we will be sending a strong message to the rest of the league and i can see the other teams not taking our team lightly and changing their tactics accordingly. one of our strong points this year will be that not too many teams know what we are all about. you boys just had a bad game, most teams have them at some point, maybe its better to get it out of the way earlier..
and if you think your having a bad time, it could be worse, you could support liverpool hahaha
-
I must admit the great thing about footballl is the unpredictability. After 1 match people are calling for change, panicing and hell bent on offloading their angst. I have been watching the Mansfield forum for a spell and after 2 games the calls of COX out were being posted, crap new signings, defence abysmal etc. Keeping tabs on their game yesterday they were losing to Kidderminster (who were also in dire straights) and forum members were calling the Samaritans, ripping up season tickets, handing back complimentary Stags stationery sets etc. Then against all this backdrop of doom and despair Mansfield equalised and then went on to win. How some of the posting content changed. See any parallels, chill a little and see how Alty turn it round in the coming games, the sesaon ends in April 2013 not mid August 2012!
-
Just about found the will to post!
Apart from Watmore, the only good thing to come from yesterday for me was that I can get on with watching without tension (as I have done for most of the last 47 years) because I won't be hoping we don't mess up another promotion bid - I can't see that happening this season. Back to Plan B of each win being a bonus and aiming for a top half finish.
-
I wasn't there, so can't comment on the performance itself. Although somewhere between disappointing and woeful seems about right judging by what I've heard. But just on a general point...
In fairness, we've had our landmark defensive signing pull out right before kick off with an injury, we're a central midfielder short after Phelan getting his Everton gig and our main goalscorer from last season is still well behind in terms of getting match fit.
None of those things excuse such a battering on our home turf, of course. But I think writing the season off after a game is a bit silly. A couple of decent signings (even loans if necessary) and some extra time to get everyone fit/develop a proper understanding could see us right near the top challenging.
And obviously this is a make or break year for Sinnott. I'll probably agree that we should get rid if we don't make the playoffs. But let's actually give him the whole season to see what he can do rather than talk about giving him the chop in September if we lose a couple more games.
-
Its scary we are even considering loans or more recruits so soon i thought that is what closed season was meant for ?
We have to hope its a blip and have the right players
-

I think we'll have to get a midfielder on loan ASAP after Phelans departure as that was glaringly obvious yesterday. Will probably have to be on loan I would guess.

There are players out there of good standard without clubs just a case of persuading them to go part time.

we need two, Carl Rodgers was the worst player on the pitch

what was pre season for?
Obviously it's a chance to settle on a team and get players as well-prepared for the season as possible.
Of course, because we live in the real world, things don't often run smoothly. Phelan was thought to be an automatic midfield choice, but ended up leaving at the very end of preseason. Whilst Reeves got barely any match practice after spending most of his time training with Kilmarnock and Donny.
I'm perfectly willing to say it was a bad result and that Sinnott has work to do to sort things out. But there are some extenuating circumstances here.

........ But there are some extenuating circumstances here.
Such as most of the players Sinnott has brought in being unfit through lack of ability, specifically Rodgers, Leather, Brooke, Doughty, Mitchley and last year's leftover, Richman. Oh, and the other extenuating circumstance is the fact that Densmore has as much ability to be captain as Edward Smith.
OK, so the season isn't over after one league match, but if you've been to the pre-season friendlies, you've seen in excess of half a dozen matches where the skill level has been consistently abysmal, not one spark has been shown (other than from Duncan Watmore) and the commitment has been woeful. Six matches is enough to see that this lot has not the slightest chance of challenging for promotion. Top half if we're lucky.

why do you say that you can not comment on the performance
But then go on with every old excuse under the sun
i was there it was a shambles - end of
Because the overall state of Altrincham FC and our chances for 2012/13 doesn't hinge entirely on what happened yesterday against Brackley, believe it or not.
I hope to God you're just a troll. And in fairness, I think you probably are. But if you genuinely believe what you say in your posts, you're terrifyingly stupid.
To be fair everything John Crewe has said is spot on
It was an absolute shambles. No more excuses
When both JDN and John Crewe think it was a shambles then it probably was.

Your wrong! Just plain and simply wrong yer a few bad performances but there not bad players just give them time
Ive been every game so far and the new strikers are actually good mitchley is pretty creative and strong and brooke also has some good quality give it time i think a bonus of reeves coming back was also supposed to relieve the pressure on the young lads but the lack of midfield creativity hasnt enabled that to happen or for them to make much impact themselves the absence of havern rocked the defence and phelan leaving has disrupted the midfield, gettin on the backs wont help anything, just give it time to gel you may be suprised what can happen!

It was truly awful on Saturday. However, it was the first game of the season and, surely, it can only get better.

Let's all remember that we put in a poor performance against Ebbsfleet on the opening day a few years back. We deserved to lose but scraped a draw. We came back to win our next three games and had a really good season.

We didn't lose 4-1 and 15th is not good enough in this league

It was only 2 seasons ago our first fixture was at Luton away in front of 6,665. The squad that day included the likes of Michael Welch, James Smith & Dale Johnson. We now have to cut out cloth accordingly and I don’t think everyone can accept that.
I for one enjoyed our trips around the country in the Conference. Going to The Abbey was always a highlight for us. I fear it might be a while until we get them again but we will get back up there. Being in the Conference is where this club will always aim to be.
Patience is a Virtue!!

The Conference would be a start. I still dream romantically of seeing us in the League before I die.......

Me too! and, probably like you TP, am starting to run out of time ;) ... only another 20 or 30 years left :D ;D

unfortunately, I think the only chance we have of seeing the football league is if a fan wins big on the lottery.

But as long as we have a club to follow, we can dream, unlike runcorn, northwich, scarborough etc

Should've been ours way back when. Who knows where we would have been now, possibly where we are at the moment, we will never know. I too dream of loftier perches of a more permanent nature, but whilst the Conference national is (should) be attainable, the League remains out of sight barring a large cash injection or a changing of the rules to create a more level playing field.

So do I, but I think I have come as near to that as is likely ( in the White & Swales era)
Conference Premier is a realistic possibility, but without going full-time ( and I'm not trying to open that debate again!) further progression than that seems unlikely.
