I thought Justin Amaluzor was superb today. I loved how their right back tried to shoulder him off the ball, but simply bounced off him and ended up on the deck, while Justin just carried on with his plans. Loved the bubble of laughter from the Alty fans too.

Our keeper and defence were solid too, think fingers crossed we may have sorted ourselves out at the back. Suspect teams may have difficulty scoring against us, or I hope!!. All players on the pitch played well and we gave them a good game, plus two well-taken goals. Impressed with our keeper too. Ready for the season now, me and the team, well done lads.

I love a bacon butty at a football match almost as much as Bovril.

Would it be possible to add bacon barms to our menus, or is this not possible cost wise or time wise?

Whoops sorry found it. It got buried in the news and there have been no reminders sorry! Takes place from 1230pm today.

We can view the new fan zone too.

Altrincham FC First Team / The Open day today
« on: July 29, 2023, 08:46:26 AM »
I understand that we have a chance to meet and mingle with the Alty players today after their team photo session at the ground in an open day this lunchtime.

Is this still going ahead? I am sure I saw something the other week on our sites or Twitter, but there is nothing on the main sites reminding us, so not sure if it is cancelled.

Does this mean our three loanees from last season will not be playing, Hugill, Aljofre and Oyedele?

Thought they would still be in the USA?

Either way it is going to be interesting watching us kick a ball in 'anger'. Cannot even start to predict the scoreline in our first game v D & R, but so long as we give a good account of ourselves and do our utmost to chalk up a win, I will be happy.

My only disappointment is that no compliments for our fans or team were given publicly my NEC Nijmegen, or have not been reported.

Even the match report was all about them and no credit for our visit. However, I was not there due to foster family commitments, but I read nothing about my club or it's fans who gave a good account of themselves.

Or am I being rather picky?

In our league, we will need them, always thought our team looked smaller compared to other teams. Feel we have strength in depth now also.

Makes sense to me. James Jones is the longest established player in the team, and knows the league and what we are about inside-out. he has an overall view ahead of him of what is going on, on the pitch.
Phil also looks at who will represent him best when they are playing so it has to be someone who he gets on well with and trusts. I understand his thinking with Isaac, who is a great player but not experienced enough as yet to take the captain's roll. James needs to step up to the plate and take responsibility for the team, which I will think we will do well. Phil knows the team better than any of us, as does Neil. James I think will handle the captaincy and not let his standards slip whilst doing so.

I must admit I'd sooner go to Trafford, missed that game this pre-season. Feel as if we have shunned close friends.

I can only hope one of the NEC Nijmegen is instructed to mark our player Jones. He will be looking for a Mark Jones, only to find there's three of them, and none of them called Mark!

I have a memory of playing a team in the mid 70's from Japan, but cannot remember who they were. I remember going into the Red-Robin club or Chequers after the game and nobody from the Japanese team eating the buffet food laid on for them. Our players ate there, but we were asked to dive in as there was loads of food left and they didn't want it to be thrown away. My memory is somewhat foggy but I remember thinking the Japanese players maybe had their own chef so were not permitted to eat the buffet. Not sure of name of the team we played, or the exact time it was played, but the food was pretty good and I thought it was the Japan players loss.

Solihull Moors seem to be losing a lot of players this close season.

With further regards to Ollie Byrne. The poor lad has come through much criticism on this forum recently so I felt it just as important to see positives in him, which there are many. Saw him in the 2nd half of the Wythy game. The girls and I greeted his entrance to the pitch with a loud and perfectly audible 'C'mon Ollie' which he waved to in acknowledgement. I was pleased about that! Though he did not have many opportunities for any major saves tonight, I thought he did really well with his ball distribution. Some of his spreading of the ball to the two Justin's was inch perfect, and it was like having an additional sweeper at the back. Our players had trust in him during the game and used him to play the ball back to as and when necessary and I noted how confident he was with his distribution. I was also impressed with our back four players as they confidently dealt with everything Wythy threw at them. I did not think they were too bad a side either and think they may do well in their league, but I found our performance comfortable throughout and I enjoyed the game very much. Ollie I think will settle and this game will have upped his confidence a bit, I do feel much better after watching him at this game. His link with the full backs and also the wingers will be very important and may start off many attacks if he maintains the distribution from that game.

I would also like to thank Wythenshawe for their friendly treatment of me as a restricted mobility fan, in particular allowing me to use the disabled spot with my Blue Badge. They made myself and the girls very welcome and made it a good spectator experience.

Their Pork Scratchings are delicious too!!
