Mainly for the attention of "the cult" or Mr Flynn, when wrexham visit on Bank Hol Monday att 3,217, will this be the first league fixture weve ever played against another "robins"?? Putting aside the linnets, the gulls and the bluebirds, it would be inetresting to know!

We've not played them in a league fixture....but Carshalton Athletic are also known as The Robins.

Anyone else recall that 'bruising' FA Trophy tie against that lot at Moss Lane back in 1989?

Carshalton are one of the dirtiest teams i've ever seen at Moss Lane!
We've also played Ilkeston in a cup match i think who are known as the robins.

Do I remember Carshalton in 1989..... dirtiest team of thugs ever to be called a football team. I got bruises from some of their tackles sitting in the stand.

No idea why I rememeber tis but the Messenger report had a picture of Gary Stewart being hacked down (complete with curly hair) and it said

"The long awaited Bruno v Tyson fight came early to Moss Lane..." in its report.

When I think of dirty the team Bishop Auckland springs to mind, have to ask my dad about the Carshalton game.

Ecky,

It's strange what random thoughts lurk inside the memory...

I recollect that one Carshalton defender was called Curtis Warmington.

In the Carshalton profile in the Robins Review, he was described as "a formidable tackler".

This proved to be a particularly creative euphemism for "psychopathic hatchet man".

P.S. Today's Alty trivia question:

Name the two Alty goalscorers in the 2-0 win over Carshalton Athletic back in 1989....

Keith Mountfirld got one of them, at the Chequers end where I was ballboying, cut in from the wing and rolled it past the keeper with the outside of the foot.

2nd couldve been Gary Stewart or me, sorry I mean John Timmons

Ballers,

You've not lost the magic...

Gary Stewart and Keith Mountford were indeed the goalscorers.
One of the three goals that Mountford scored for Alty.

Yes, he was definitely a fireman.

He left us at the end of the 1988/89 season.

Not sure where he went after departing from Moss Lane (Trumpton FC, possibly?).
