Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Grahame Rowley interview
« on: September 07, 2018, 03:52:36 PM »
It's very disappointing that Grahame could not acknowledge the respect he was at least given to move the club forward.

As Leon has said, the article merely states a couple of things that happened as a result of some pretty disgraceful actions. Although as Matt says, that's not exact what you'd be looking to read in that publication.

It seems to say we got relegated and people wanted a scapegoat. Well, no one did that the previous times under GR tenure that we got relegated did they?...

Still at least the good times are back eh? 👍

Quite frankly Grahame Rowley should feel pretty ashamed of himself every time he opens up the club rather than grinning for articles such as this. If he had an ounce of respect for the club he'd acknowledge that and the fan base he has ruined.

Cheers Ian, I'd forgot to add it was a football mad city.

Weak

The second key takeaway is that, currently, Barrow is not capable of sustainably competing for promotion in the National League with its current level of support. The club cannot continue to operate outside its means on the back of crowds around 1000. The club is also limited by not having an academy and having no external facility such as proper training facilities in the town for the first team and youth teams, which can also be used as a revenue stream.

Yeh it's a pisser you being stick out in the sticks rather than the suburbs of a major population centre with excellent transport links....

This is why it is so important  to keep expectations in touch with reality. Sadly AFC Barrow seems a possibility

Why does it seem it's a possibility?

We had people fighting in court over ownership of alty...
When ownership was possible....
Look at all those clubs listed above and realise what i mean by we are a good investment...not least because the money goes straight into the club not to a shareholder...we are a cracking club ready for immediate progress...
Ill bet someone invests in gateshead dagenham and the other one in trouble....and i bet they wont make a percentage yield on their money....
Meanwhile sla owner continues to invest...

It would help if you had your facts right,... nobody has been fighting in court over ownership to my knowledge.

Alty are NOT an attractive investment in purely financial terms, clearly 20 years of not attracting any is sufficient proof of that !

Most of the clubs listed have had some form of major income from an owner(s) who could afford to spend spare money without any real prospect of getting it back.
In many cases millions, the few that have done it organically werent located 5 miles from the biggest club in the world and 7 miles from the wealthiest one.

I still find this one odd. Have you any idea from a spectator perspective how many clubs would love to be located where we are? Macc, Barrow for a start. Close enough links wise to a major population centre (with top level football prices higher than ever) but not right next to them. 4,500 people curious enough to come and look once. Salford and fcum haven't suffered, different beasts though they are, granted.

If you're talking about wealthy investors there is now zero opportunity for them to invest in City or United now. Poor Peter Swales would never get to be City chairman now, nor would franny lee actually.

It's a closed mindset.

That would mean someone giving up their shares to make it up to 51%.....Mr Looney took 10,000 shares?..who has 10,000 shares and would give them up?...what mechanism?
Anyway it's all gone very quiet on the investment front....we've been promoted, we're a great investment......it does feel like we've got one person took up a few shares and we're happy with that and hopefully the whole fragmented share and ownership will go away??
Amazing these shares that are a millstone round the poor poor shareholders neck....and yet when the supporters wanted more than one single share they were eyed with utmost suspicion by Mr Rowley and co....and the fans were prepared to invest continually (unlike Mr Rowley)

Is it a great investment? The definition of an investment is to trt make a profit. You don't invest in something to lose money, which you most likely would do putting money into a lower league football club.
It needs somebody who is happy to throw money away and not many wealthy people are fans of this, otherwise they wouldn't be wealthy in the first place.
The best case scenario, from a monetary point of view, is for a big Alty fan to come forward with a case load of cash and throw it at the club, not interested in a return apart from involvement in the club and decision making. This hasn't happened yet, so is unlikely to do so now.

Precisely. This is the reality and why "investors" have never come forward, because it isnt investment at all and why the board have taken the path they have these past years, in the absence of an alternative.

Quite right, no one invests any money or any backing in any football clubs anywhere.

Remember children - investment and ambition bad, being insular and congratulating each other for hosting a child's.  Birthday party - good.

The place will fall down otherwise.

When we were the champions of non league football nearly 40 years ago, overseas players were practically non existent in English football. Now they're commonplace even in the National League.
There were 92 full time clubs then - there are more like 120 now. I know a handful of part time clubs get along OK at level 5, but basically the dividing line for our club is where it has always been : at the break point between full time and part time football.
As part timers we can realistically hope to make it into the National division. The hard part will always be staying there.
Remember how we scoffed when Boreham Wood went full time on gates of 400 ? Who's laughing now ? Patience is needed, because I'd rather continue as we are and still exist, than overreach and go down the pan.
A succinct and accurate summary of the position. To reach the National division is a realistic goal; to be solvent and extant is, however, my highest priority for the club.

It would be succinct and accurate if it wasn't total bollocks to be fair.

Does this influx of foreign players and expansion of full time clubs only affect Altrincham?? Is our line always to be drawn from whatever other people do? If Wythenshawe Town go full time do we happily sit back cuckolded while they rise above us and we settle down to our nice little level?

Without wanting to turn this into a Rowley out thread, a lot of dissatisfaction is gleaned from the perception (maybe fairly, maybe unfairly) that his concern is staying as chairman at a level he is comfortable with, rather than getting to the conf national level we could/should be at where he has proved not to be comfortable, as the required openness and investment wasn't sought after enough.

That may be unfair (I'm sure he'd want the best of both) but the point I'm trying to head to is, although going full time has risks and rewards, I was surprised there appeared to be no ground work or plan for ever doing so. Particularly as we were potentially (and still are) sitting on a watmore sell on.

We had a great opportunity to break of the shackles off our wetness and fear and move forward. However, that's gone so we can only move forward as we are. But if going full time is what needs to done long term for us to grow then we have to grasp that. The weak and the cuckolded who are so fearful and think we should stay at conference north level with our current twee state need to give their heads a bit of a wobble.

I'd suggest if we want to improve our core base we should renconcile with the alienated long term supporters first.

Still, enough ranting, let's see what the board come up with

Any released Salford lads would only come here if the money is right though. Being able to tempt them to Moss Lane rather than Stockport, Southport or Chester will be quite a challenge.

I'm not disagreeing with you Bri but how much of a challenge? Or at the very least how difficult to position ourselves as a club to move forward ahead of them. I mean Southport have a morning or two of training, we must be able to move towards that surely.

Chester and Stockport are basket cases and floundering for a reason. They don't seem to attract the better players as it is.

You are right though to an extent. I think the key will be to attract players with a point to prove like Johnson and Hulme

and that 1 brought in PP and his team

After being heckled out of appointing Matt Doughty though which was the original preference.

Do you think people are that stupid?

Very sad to hear of Jacqui's passing. Inspirational to see how she still worked so hard with so many causes through her illness, I think her last one was a drive to get women to football matches together at a time when I quite frankly would've been too terrified and worried to be campaigning about anything else.

I know she fitted a lot into the last few years, including a trip to New Zealand she'd always wanted to do. I hope that her achievement and enjoyment in life can bring some comfort to her family and friends at this sad time.

Rest In Peace Jacqui, a football and Altrincham supporter to the core.

Well done to PP and his team. I expected us to win the title and would have been embarrassed if we hadn't. Nonetheless the work still has to be done and the games won no matter what the level.

To have done it with some nice football and with a few players capable of playing at a higher level is a bonus and a good sign for next season when I hope pp will aim high and demand high standards from all around him.

Have we made a mistake by having such a thin squad at this stage? Should we have strengthened more or recalled some loan players or were we just unlucky with the timing of Harrison and Poole’s injuries?

I can't imagine the other teams i.e. Warrington aren't stretched at this time also, and with less quality

Keep playing good football like that, especially on a Saturday and crowds will increase from new supporters starting to follow us one would hope.

Which will leave us with some new fans who saw some nice passing rather than a couple of hundred fans who've been here for 20 plus years and bailed us out of some pretty serious situations. Long term those are the fans who need to be respected
