Sad news for an old adversary of ours:

Just heard this on Midlands local news.. apparently they went under due to financial troubles..
I doubt that they will be the last club that we read about going under in the coming months...
Crawley anyone?

When I was about 14 I had a paperound and also helped in the shop, and for some reason I always remember us losing at Bromsgrove 4-0 on a midweek game, those were the days when to find out the previous nights result you had to wait for the paper the next day :)

That night is my memory of them too, I almost ran out of petrol on the way back South. Came off at a country junction of the M40 on fumes.

Very sad to see them go. When I lived in Brum in the early 70's I went there a couple of times. Nice friendly club back then.
-
Matt Dickens was bloody awful in goal that night, not that the rest were any good though.
Sad news though.
-
I would have been there but have no recollection of it!
My memory of them is having a big terrace behind one goal and also having a player that scored loads of goals but couldnt play on Saturdays due to his religion.
-
Simon Burgher, 7th day adventist, think he got a hatrick that night!...

You're slightly misguided on this one way. Bromsgroves long spiral downwards started with mid 90s conference ground grading regulations, subsequently relaxed for Accy. I'm going to stop here. >:(

Ah yes, a painful evening - circa September 1996, I believe.
That former WBA 'striker' and immobile lummox Paul Williams played for us.
Enough said.
-
If I remember rightly, the stage for the first appearance in an Alty shirt of the legendary Ian Tunnacliffe? Shame, it was a nice place to go. Weren't they relegated for having a 3 sided ground? Oxford anyone?
-
They went down in 97 with us and never recovered. Funnily enough they were runners up behind Wycombe a few years earlier.

You may well be right ... After all it was Nick Owen (Midlands today) and Chairman of Luton who stated that it was due to financial problems...
-
That 'spectators must be able to view the match from all 4 sides of the ground' rule was the most snobby and ridiculous unwarranted rule for a non league league and the person who dreamt it up should have been put on the centre circle at Oxford and everyone in a capacity crowd given a shotgun.

Matt Dickens was awful in goal most matches!

Didn't Blackburn pay £250,000 for him before he joined us? Not the best bit of business they ever did! :D

if i remember correctlythey had a gainsboroesque mob with a massive website
-
Another recollection of them is visiting Moss Lane around 1995, being a teenager i was quite gobby and I remember giving their right back a bit of verbal when he was taking a corner, a small coloured lad - it was the first half and I said something along the lines of 'your teams sh*t hahaha' - to which he replied 'it's a game of two halves son' classic :) I'm presuming we were winning but I don't remember...
-
Was it Bromsgrove when we we winning 2-0 and lost 3-2 at home?
Andy Reid tried to shepherd it our for a corner and the guy ran round him, pinched it and scored?

Maybe that comment did bite me on the arse then...

Bromsgrove Rovers was indeed the setting for the peerless Tunna's Alty debut on 12th December 1992.
A momentous day for English football.

I went there once on a cold wet winter night around 1995 for a GMVC match when we drew 0-0 away, there were two heavy tackles that resulted in serious injuries, one on Alty's Chris Sharratt in first half after which he didnt play for months (knee ligaments I think) and one where Darren Royle broke one of their players legs in the second half, just a 50/50 challenge, nothing malicious,...following which Darren and every Alty fan/player/director got absolutely slated by their fans, players and officials, called us every name under the sun,... both during and after the match. Neither player was sent off by the way for the challenges. Poor Darren didnt have a malicious bone in his body, but they would have that!
It was a most unpleasant and totally one eyed experience and I never wanted to go back, so actually I wont miss them :(
-
my stand out memory of bromsgrove rovers is a car sticker I saw near moss Lane when we played them.
COME ON OVER AND BE A ROVER
A mate and I still shout that out in a brummie accent.
-
Ooh AAARRRR Grite
Reely lovlai
-
I remember the Darren Royle incident are their fans reaction, but I am fairly sure it was a Saturday game as I would not have been able to make an evening kick off down there.

I'm sure we played them once on a Sunday for some reason. I remember because it was the only time I ever went there.

I believe that this game was played on the first or second Saturday of 1996.
