Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Barrow - Match thread
« on: March 13, 2016, 02:20:46 PM »

I'm curious about in what way Tolson has been "loyal"?

Surely, he has just been fulfilling the job that the club actually pays him a salary to do?

And now we promote him because we don't want to upset him.

We used to be a football club.

Now it appears that we are merely a footnote of a football club attached to a Community Sports Hall.

Embarrassing.

I couldn't agree more with this.

Frankly i'm flabbergasted by all of this. The chairmans judgement seems to be severley clouded and its likely to not end well for us.

« on: February 20, 2016, 08:35:01 PM »
I agree that people perceive things differently.
Although Guiseley were very neat and kept the ball well they didnt really hurt us at all and we defended well.
We created far more chances than Guiseley from much less possession and if Rankine's shot had gone in instead of hitting the underside of the bar Guiseley couldnt have complained at all with a loss.

Big improvement, still only one defeat in the last 6 games, however we need 5 or 6 wins to be safe from the remaining 13 games.

Appreciate you're a glass half full chap, but where do you expect these 5/6 wins to appear from?? 1 win in the last 11. Nowhere near good enough and to be honest, the great performance against woking aside we look miles away!

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Pre match drinking

I seem to remember reading in Woking's programme that they offer some sort of voucher deal for money off a pint pre match ballers... Think it had to redeemed by 2pm. Seems a good idea.

I thought Bromley had a really good idea actually. They get some ale in from brewery local to the team they are hosting. For example when we played down there they had MPA on.

This isn't a dictatorship, people are quite within their rights to drink where they want to, not to mention the CSH doesn't always have decent beer on tap. Tuesday for example there was no Wainrights on, which isn't the 1st time that's been the case for our home games.

Just to add that those who choose to drink elsewhere pre-match put more than enough money behind the bar at half time and after the game in any event.

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: FA Cup live matches
« on: December 12, 2015, 09:37:17 AM »
These TV companies don't pay millions for the rights to be fair to all teams though i'm afraid.

Once you hit the third round its all about viewing figures (and in BT Sports case) the ad revenue they can recoup. Think i read this is the 48th consecutive FA Cup game where United have been shown live, and i'm sure they'll have been some dull home fixtures along the way but its all business.

38
In addition, we were also featured on BT Sport's FA Cup 2nd round preview last night. Presume it will be repeated across the 3 BT sport channels throughout today.

The show is 30 minutes long and we feature towards the end of the programme. Probably a 3 or 4 minute feature.

In addition , if the club or anybody does have a copy of the Torquay programme from Saturday that they don't want to keep and would care to sell/give to me then i'd be happy to take it off there hands (at cover price of course).

Cheers

What's to stop the club pre selling the match programme at the cover price plus £1.00 postage and under cutting the rip off artist?

I've just posted off a couple of Alty programmes sold on Ebay and the postage is slightly under £1.00 (but don't tell anyone !)  :-X

Or a program subscription for exiles.. Especially if the exile got them in time for the day of the game.

Radio Robins / Alty TV donation and a program bundled together under one nice monthly subscription.. Call it a loyALTY program.

A programme subscription service is something that's been in my mind for a while actually, partly due to the fact that like on Saturday, I often get to the ground at 2.50 and they are sold out.

Presumably posting the programme out in time for the day of the game might be unworkable but perhaps electronic versions could be made available on the day of the game and then the hard copy sent out in due course for the hardcore collectors that require a physical copy?

Of course I've no idea if this would be workable or whether it would make the club any extra money but certainly something to consider. I seem to recall that Halfiax and Southport offer something similar.

You'll know more than me but do you not have normal sky sports and bt in RoI? If so i'm assuming that UK broadcast rights apply to Ireland as well.

Unless Setanta Ireland have a seperate deal to show FA Cup 3pm kick offs like they do with the Premier League?

I suspect 'BBC World' are merely producing the broadcast and that the live coverage will be available on the following channels in there respective countries. (As per fa website)

Nobody has included Paul Williams in their team yet. 1995/96 season i think. Woeful although maybe didn't play enough games for us to qualify.

West Brom fans once voted him their worst ever player in an issue of Four Four Two he was that bad.

Brilliant. Remember that coach, think i was sat somewhere near ballers out of shot.

Great find.

I'm not sure if such a photo exists or whether its just a mental image which never fades but does anyone know of a photo of Ricky Harris aptly 'bombing' across the running track at Gateshead in 1999 arms aloft? This possibly was featured in the Unibond years book that was published years back. If it does then it would be fit to grace any bar.

Failing that photo existing then any other photo of Bomber looking triumphant will do. Hero.

On this subject can we also have a ceremonial binning of that wretched photo of Michael Twiss from the Noel White Suite. I know Ballers is keen to set it alight!
