Altrincham FC First Team / Re: Out Go

The best way i can summarise Harvey's reign was that it was like having a bewildered grandad in charge.

If my memory serves me right Graham Heathcote losing interest at that particular time coincided with the death of his mother. I didn't really understand properly at the time but having since lost my own mother I know it can affect you massively.

As may be the case Martin, thankfully i can't claim to know such sorrow. Still doesn't excuse his performance at the meeting and taking money out of the club in the fashion he did.

Wondered how long it would take Heathcote to sneak his way back through the door after engineering that massive pay out for himself back in 2010/11.

Interim measure or not, its disgraceful. He should be nowhere near.

How much was the massive payout? I'm intrigued to know what massive is in these circumstances.

I'm not backing him up I genuinely want to know how he engineered it and why this is now such a disgrace?

Something in the mid 5 figures if memory serves.

Engineered by way of signing a multi year contract and then suddenly losing all interest. (I wasn't at the first friendly of that pre-season at Woodley but those that went i know were more than a little bemused). After not winning the first 9 or 10 games of the season he then commandeered the meeting in which Geoff Goodwin was to step aside as chairman and effectively challanged the board to sack him.

Which as a coincidence was just around the time the Nash family had donated a substantial sum to be used to boost the playing squad.

Can never forget. Happy to be corrected if factually wrong in any part.

Fair enough, if those are the bare facts then I understand. It sounds like we gave him a years wages to go. Its just a question of whether it was as simple as he'd lost interest? For someone who lost interest he didn't keep him away and doing stuff for the club, I assume without a salary.

I dont think Sinnott has been back since he lost interest (or at least his ambition).

In fairness, my issue isn't about payouts in itself. Sacked managers receive them, i understand that. Its more an issue of the way it came about and the whole 'Mr Altrincham' stuff. I just find it a nonsense. Sure i'm not the only one on that front though.

I wonder if the original post of this thread has been lost somewhat, surely its intention was to gain a report from people who were there on the floor of AGM? I would imagine that a fair percentage of users of this forum are either non-shareholders or the ones that are shareholders may be exiles.

I certainly mean no disrespect to John Laidlar in saying this, but any report on the clubs official website is surely only going to paint a kind picture of the board and present the events of the AGM in a positive light?

Therefore perhaps any attendees who use this forum could confirm that the official report is indeed a fair reflection or in fact confirm any contentious issues not mentioned in John's report? For example when it came to the vote on Grahame Rowley's re-election as chairman were there any dissenting voices or votes against re-election? Whilst I would be surprised if there were enough voices present to ensure that GR lost any vote, I'd certainly be surprised if he was elected unanimously.

Again, I don't think these are unfair questions but can also see why they wouldn't be reported on the official website.

Finally, on the point of personal abuse, the only 'abuse' I have encountered on this thread has come from a club official, shame on you Phil Taylor.

Nice one Wayne, it was a good atmosphere yesterday....mainly trying to drown out the incessant mindless drumming from the Lincoln mob.

Considering the first half was so one sided, our fans are to be commended for keeping the faith and giving the team great support for the whole 90 minutes.
that reminds me of an away game against Slough.  Must have been early 90s they had a drum and we're banging it for 88 minutes . We went 1 up with 2 minutes to go. The drum stopped . It was very funny

Darren Pybus scored after coming on as a substitute.

Late August/Early September 1993 I think.

Later than 93 as i recall Brian.

September 95?

Altrincham FC First Team / Re: We want Nicky back campaign
« on: November 02, 2016, 08:32:50 PM »
from the official site:

CLEE DEAL FALLS THROUGH
John Edwards, joint Press & Media Officer at Altrincham FC, writes...

"Altrincham have done their utmost to bring Nicky Clee back to The J.Davidson Stadium but been forced to concede defeat after Harrogate Town moved in with a counter-offer far beyond the Robins' financial means.

Desperate for proven reinforcements to lift the team out of the Vanarama National League North relegation zone, Alty sprang into action the moment Clee's Guiseley contract ended and drew up a package aimed at luring him back across the Pennines.

Club bosses held talks with him and thought they were on the verge of a significant breakthrough after the talented winger indicated the substantial terms placed before him more than matched his aspirations.

But, just as it seemed his wing wizardry was Alty-bound, wealthy Harrogate flexed their financial muscle with an offer way in excess of the one already on the table to effectively finish the battle for his services.

The fact that Alty's bid was accepted in principle, prior to Harrogate's intervention, underlined it was no token gesture, as the club strives to recruit the signings needed for a push towards safety in the table. With an FA Cup First Round tie at Lincoln looming this Saturday, Alty will redouble their efforts to identify and land the players manager Jim Harvey feels he needs for Vanarama North status to be safeguarded" ENDS

"Far beyond our financial means" is a serious statement when you are 7 points adrift at the bottom of the Conference North, have a competitive budget, are a solvent entity, have c £40 to £50k additional funds and currently average 1,200 at home. We need to get moving and quick!

Well what a disgraceful statement that is.

Given the service that lad has given us over the years (and ignoring the fact we pretty much did our best to cripple him last season) what a way to treat him, we've properly hung him out to dry. The only suprise is that the headline doesnt read "Mercenary joins harrogate".

Notwithstanding this, what sort of message does it send to potential targets? If you don't sign for us we'll go public playing the "poor old altrincham" card? Not to mention we've essentially just shown our hand to everyone else now.

Seriously, who signs off on this sh*t? I despair.

Altrincham FC First Team / Sinnott-lite

Its flat, tactically naive and no one at the club seems to accept we're in a relegation battle. Really poor that today as was Halifax on Saturday. No urgency whatsoever.

Seems utterly predictable to me all of this. Tolson has the same ideas as Sinnott and seems to me to make the same sort of decisions. I haven't spoken to one person who can make sense of the appointment of Tolson. Everyone knows he's been appointed due to being in the chairmans clique. The chairmans article in the NLP the other week was utter nonsense, Tolson isnt loyal, he was an employee with his feet already under the table who was easy to employ given that the board didn't want to sack Sinnott in the first place. Utter farce.

I think the current set up is much better than last time we were in this league and seemed to spend most of every match playing head tennis in the middle of the pitch. As you say last year we were OK and this year we've been mullered by injuries and Griffith.

You've really not seen much of us this year have you? I've had neck ache with the hoof ball at times.

Tolson's comments on yesterdays game seem insightful...

"We defended really well apart from on four occasions and on three of those they scored."

So we didn't defend well then Neil? Jesus wept we're in trouble.
