Why Tuesdays
« on: September 22, 2012, 10:37:00 PM »

I'm a new fan and I go to as many games as I can,
But I can't do Tuesday nights because of work commitments.
It would be better if the team played on a Monday or Wednesday.
But is there a tradition for playing Tuesdays?

I can't do Wednesdays, so let's leave it as it is eh.

Monday used to be the usual midweek night until sometime in the early/mid 80's - it was changed to give the players more time to recover from saturday games.

Don't know why but I've always assumed it was a league ruling that midweek games should be Tuesdays by default.  Probably me just being a thicko.

I'm sure if you ring the club and possibly text the league that they will rearrange the fixture list to suit you.

I would have thought it is pretty obvious that it's to give maximum rest between playing and training and to ensure that players don't have to come in / play on two consecutive days.

Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday

2 days the recover after a Saturday game
1 day to recover after a Tuesday night game
Training on a Thursday.

As a side note, I don't think the leagues demands games are played on a Tuesday. I seem to remember Hinckley playing their midweek games on a Monday, as they thought Tuesday and Wednesday attendances were always lower because of Champions League on the TV and local games at Leicester/Coventry games.

Yes, It did used to be Mondays in the Cheshire League days.  As regards the tuesday thing, I don't think it can be a league rule as Cheshter have already played at least one home midweek game on a wednesday.
