...then why shouldn't the club sell first team places to fans. There has to be some criteria of course, I'm not suggesting anybody can pay and play.
If you're fit enough and can demonstrate sufficient ability to trap and pass a ball, enough nouse not to pose a safety risk to the others players on the pitch, then why not? £250 buys you a place in the team for the first half, £200 for the second half (you don't have the kudos of being in the starting team).
All funds go towards the Evostik campaign.
Before you slag the idea off, think about what NY was doing. He'd sign a bloke up, pay him and then realise they weren't good enough. What I'm proposing filters out the total duffers and raises some funds.
The only issue I can see is a charge of bringing the game into disrepute but given the criteria to play we have a strong case.

A sort of "Fabio of the Week" award ? It's perhaps too near the truth to be really funny.

Would love to have played for Alty just once in my life. Would hate to look as big a dick as I would if I tried to play even at this level :)

We're a joke as it is, running such an initiative would see us slip below "laughing stock" status. Tinpottinghell.

Whilst I agree the idea would make us a laughing stock, I do think we should have some sort of open trials for players from lower leagues to show us what they can do. We might fine a load of crap or we might pick up a gem.

good thinking

We have a reserve team to trial these players. Don't we?

Why not hold open trials? With any youngster with potential going into the reserves. We're starting to prove their is a pathway from reserve football into the first team and with us dropping from national to the north this has increased

i am to old at 64 and remember you would have to register with the FA,but would our gate suffer if fans knew we were not going to put out a first team?

Don't it would go down very well with other teams in the league

So we have a bit of admin to register players.
We have to swallow some pride and look silly.
We may upset some others clubs in the league, but as we are relegated that's OK.
Sounds like the paperwork will be the stumbling block for Alty!
Seriously we should be getting players down for open trials, low cost with that tantalising possibility of finding a gem.
Despite the crap we are in, I love this club.
