Keith Russell. He cost 15K and banged to goals in, until he had an accident in the city centre the (very) early morning before an FA cup game.

If I remember correctly he allegedly had a 'drink' problem. He was allegedly seen several times plastered, including once in St Annes by my dad, which I think he lived.

He got injured and accepted an insurance payout, thus preventing him playing professionally again. Then Hednesford paid it off and he joined them again *

* What I can remember, and sorry to use allegedly but I dont fancy a lawsuit  :)

Russell's last game for Alty was the 0-0 v Kidderminster, final game which condemned us to relegation. My lasting memory is of his ridiculous histrionic legs taken away dive when he would have been better advised to actually stay on his feet and have a shot. We only needed one goal.

I think Keith Russell too, a class act when fit especially that tuesday night in Chesterfield when he scored two against Gainsborough and we had ten men. The Kiddy 0-0 was a sad day oh I wish Leroy Chambers could shoot !! :P
